It had wandered onto the grounds from the nearby forest looking for food and the monks took kindly to the poor creature. The combination of the time of day, the relative quiet from the lack of people, and the dimly lit traditional Japanese building honestly had me believing in yokai (apparitions) until we bumped into one of the monks who explained (rather amused) what it was.

Creepiest part about 087 is that no matter how strong your torch is, it'll never be able to light up more than a few steps ahead. As if the darkness itself is literally blocking the light from going any further. Moreover, in one expedition they placed LED's at intervals on the walls to light it all up. Next time they send someone down, they were all gone with only some fragments of glass scattered here and there.
