LOVED this video! I’m looking into replacing my track cutter and getting something a bit tougher/spending a bit more; your honesty and how you use each piece of equipment was super helpful! Plus you had me smiling with your own admissions!! TFS!x
Thanks so much! I do have a tendency to be honest about things. 😁 I wish I could tell you what the perfect cutter is for YOU, but I sure love my small Tim Holtz and my giant orange Fiskars. So far so good with both of those!! 💙
I'm so excited for you! I don't know if people should be excited about paper cutters, but I am! This cutter is still in my "if it breaks today I'll buy a new one IMMEDIATELY rating". 💙💙💙 Happy crafting!
I was wanting honest reviews about the larger Tonic/TH guillotine cutter and I'm so glad I found your video. I already have 2 of the ones you did recommend and I will just stick with those for now. Thank you!
My little Cricut cutter arrived yesterday with a replacement blade and scoring blade from Amazon for about $20. I had been using a hand me down clunky cutter that never produced a sharp cut. The Cricut cutter changed my new card making mission. Thank you for recommending this inexpensive little number. I’m smiling from ear to ear.
What an excellent video!! You are so thoughtful in considering different people’s possible needs when choosing a paper cutter. Thank you so much! This is super helpful!
Absolutely FANTASTIC video! I keep thinking about the Cutterpillar. I have wanted it for years! I have the big fiskars procision, After a few cuts, I cut into the metal bar with the blade! It hasn't worked right since! It is also so big an bulky! I still have some thinking to do, but you helped so much! Thanks!
I wonder if there was something wrong with your procision?? That seems weird. I do know that Fiskars warranties things. I thought I would love the Cutterpillar and every once in while I do miss it’s precision. That thing cuts SO precisely you can take a hair off. I was just too hard on it AND I didn’t love the height of it combined with the arm extension. Make any sense? IF I ever try a Cutterpillar again I would lean toward the Pro, not the Crop. I’m still in love with my fiskars procision though! I made 4 journal covers tonight and a ton of journal pages…it just keeps going. 😁 Good luck in your search. 😁💙💙💙
@@CraftingandRelaxing awe thanks for the nice reply! Yep I was considering the crop because of space but I will contact fiskars first and see what they can do. Thanks again!!!!
Glad it was helpful! I really have tried a LOT of paper cutters. I don't believe there is one perfect one for everyone because we all like different things.😁 Plus, I wouldn't want someone that crafts a couple times a year with kids to buy a FANCY paper cutter. 💙💙💙
Terrific review! When beginning my journal-making adventure over two years ago, I was torn between a Dahle pro-grade cutter, the green Cutterbee (mainly because of the light and my aged, fading eyesight), and the big Fiskars Precision cutter. I settled on the Fiskars Precision because it folded to take up less space while not in use, and I had a coupon for 40% Off. I wound up getting mine for $28 because it was mis-marked on the shelf, and I couldn't be happier. Knowing what I know now and what a great cutter it is, if I had to do it all over again, I would not hesitate to pay full price. The drag on the stabilizer bar happens when dust and paper fibers accumulate. It's easily addressed by wiping with a dry cloth, and applying a couple of drops of fresh machine oil on the bar for lubrication. It is a precision machine, after all.
I have an older Fiskars rotary cutter. My main issue with it is that it never seems to cut straight. Also, I can't see the cutter bar track because of the housing for the rotary blade and the "arm" that holds it. So that if I have to cut the edges off a photograph, say, I can't see exactly where the blade is going to run. I'm a casual user--I don't do a lot of cards, but I do junk journals and some scrapbooking projects. I'm considering the big Fiskars--it looks very easy to use! Thanks for the thorough review.
Do you have the kind where you have to push down on the rotary cutter while u cut? I had a giant Fiskars one that I always had to stand to cut (and I didn’t have a counter back then). I got rid of it, wasn’t a fan. Good luck finding the right one for you. 😁💙
I just found your video. Thank you so much for this information. I love the fact that you cover physical limitations I also have many paper trimmers because of trying to find what works for my projects. Lately I have been thinking of the Fiskars procision trimmer and you have helped me make up my mind. I am going to get one!
I bought the fiskars precision cutter (that's the large orange one) a little over a year ago. I use it for everything. It is by far my favorite trimmer I can use it for heavy duty and lightweight material. I can even cut tracing paper with it. The drag is there because it is a self-sharpening cutter. Which means I never have to buy a blade for it. It's pretty much the only one I use. And I paid about $75 for it, on sale. I also have back issues and this has been the only cutter that I could use that doesn't cause more problems with my back. I think you might like it more the longer you have it.
Stamping up one is discontinued now in uk. There is a cutting strip to go in the space and this cutter has a lock to stop the strip and the plastic guard moving in transport and getting broken.
I watched this TWICE! Great summary, thank you! I also have the 8.5" TH trimmer that I LOVE, and I was wondering if I needed to try to find one of the big guillotine ones - but I can see really clearly I don't need to do that - so thank you!
Thanks so much, Minette! I'm not the most organized/tidy person, but I try to share good information. I think the secret to cutters is very personal. It depends on your health (hands and back), what you make (precision or chipboard) and the real trick is that it can change over time as your projects change.😂 TFW! 💙
@@CraftingandRelaxing Im sorry but I laught a bit about your fiskars. I Saw a Tonic super trimmer on half price so I hurryed up and pruchased it to have one in backup😅next time it could be me stepping wrong.
Nice view! Try cleaning the bars of the fiskars then add a few drops of mineral oil (cutting board oil). Mineral oil is very light, easy to clean and does not become sticky like machine oil will.
Perfest vlog Thanks a lot ..wish i had seen it before...Totally agree tim holtz trimmer have a design flaw and i too faced it ..i have the Fisker bypass..just apply little machine oil on the railings just 2- 3 drops not more and it wil be as smooth as butter...u have to do that often..it happens due to dust..
Ahh, you should watch Project39 Mini Albums! Debbie makes them in all sizes. That one was 8x9 I think. I made a 6x6 pet one after that and loved it. Check out her channel: th-cam.com/video/KuoswbrW4r4/w-d-xo.html
I have the green one and the small Tim Holtz Tonic cutters. I've replaced batteries in my green one and the light still doesn't work. It's starting to not cut srtraight, I'm definitely considering purchasing the Fiskars rotary cuttter. Found this video right on time. Thanks for sharing.
Happy to help. I’ve been really happy with this big Fiskars. 😁 I would buy another one. That’s always my test…would I buy this again if my other one vanished? YES!! immediately 😂💙
Thanks for the info! My first cutter was a Martha Stewart and it was awful! Now I have a Fiskars collection. Lol. I have a slider, a small guillotine and the big one you have. (was lucky enough to get it on clearance at Michaels for $38) Love them all. Take care and TFS!
My first trimmer was also a Martha Stewart. I bought it because I assumed anything with her name on it would be good quality. I was wrong. I quickly moved on to a small Fiskars trimmer. I then got the 12” Fiskars. I can’t stand the gap between the arm and the base though. Neither of the Fiskars gives a perfectly straight edge - my card bases and panels are always a tad off. I recently bought a small We R guillotine trimmer because the Fiskars tears certain colors of my Paper Boutique paper rather than cutting it. I was considering a Stampin Up trimmer because that doesn’t have the gap on the arm like the Fiskars, but I’ve heard the blades dull quickly. So here I am, in search of the elusive perfect trimmer.
The perfect trimmer for you may be out there! It just takes a while to find it. I’m not sure there is one perfect trimmer that works for ALL of us. Good luck! 😀💙
@@CraftingandRelaxing 🥰 I am leaning heavily toward “the big orange one”. My issue is where it folds. I mainly make A2 cards - does the fold line obstruct the 5-1/2 measurement?
Thank you for this video. I've been looking for a new trimmer and was decided on the fiskars bypass one, but you definitely helped me feel more comfortable with my decision. I think the drag on it (having just ordered it ten min ago) is either from friction on the rails or more likely the self sharpening aspect.
Would the big orange fiskars cut through stacks of 24lb paper? I’m looking for a heavy duty paper cutter to make journals. I’ll love any recommendations. Thank you so much. Love the video!
Your Stampin' Up! cutter is missing the piece from the track, you're right. However, it's the older model; the new model doesn't have a removable piece there. The new style blades are sharper and the cutter has several improved features also. They sell for $25
I have had sooo many cutters over the years. As I would buy a new one, I’d take my old one to use in my classroom. It beat having to go upstairs to the teacher workroom and use the huge guillotine one that shredded paper! I mostly use my Stampin Up one now. It has a cutting and scoring blade and the longer arm swings out to 17 inches.
Thank you for all this great info. I NEED HELP !!! I have the Fiskars rotary trimmer. although I like the way it cuts, (a nice clean cut) I've noticed that the rotary itself goes wonky and I couldn't seem to get a 90 degree cut. Then I noticed that it wasn't me not using it properly but the base itself is crooked..I have wasted so much paper in trying to get a nice straight cut..Now I don't have the dexterity to be able to hold onto the blade mechanism on the straight blade trimmers so now, I don't know what to get....Any advice would be greatly appreciated....thanks'...
I've heard you can email customer service and get help/replacement if your Fiskars trimmer is crooked or has problems. I didn't do that with mine, found out later. You mentioned hand dexterity is an issue, but those fiskars rotary ones are hard for me (the kind you push down with palm and slide?). If you don't do a LOT of crafting I would do a slider blade (stampin up? fiskars? cricut?) I really love those slider/track cutters, but I just wear them out too fast so it isn't cost effective. I hope some of that helps! Like I always say, there isn't one perfect cutter for everyone so think about WHAT you cut, size, and how much and get what works for your hands. Good luck!!💙💙💙
I have a more recent Stampin' Up!(r) paper trimmer and the blades are more sharper than the version you have. Love how they have both a cutting and scoring blade which you can keep on the track at the same time (just tuck one on either end and than use the other). I use it to cut and score cardstock. 12:08 Yes for your older edition the paper trimmer should have a removable/replacable track in the centre. Maybe you forgot to replace yours or it fell out?
Thanks for watching and commenting! 😊 I got the trimmer second hand so I think it must have fallen out somewhere along the way. I do like trimmers with scoring blade combo! 😁💙
Thanks for your helpful video. I was thinking about buying my 4th trimmer and you made my mind clear. The only thing I can add to what you said is to cut chipboard with small trimmer cut it on both sides and keep a blade only for that and not for other cardstock.
Trimmers are so personal! It depends on what you like to make. Great tip about the chipboard and having a blade set aside for it! Thanks for sharing! 💙💙💙
I own the Cutterpillar, the Fiskars Procision, Tonic Guillotine 6 inch, the fiskars rotary and 2 of the simple fiskars cutters and a WRMK guilliontine. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect trimmer for over 20 years. There is no perfect trimmer. The Procision is great for cutting chipboard. Although Fiskars states that the blade in the Procision is never to be replaced, that’s not really correct. The chipboard is a tough material so after a while it will dull. It may take a couple of years, depends how much you’re using it of course, but the Procision will need to be replaced (you can’t change the blade). However, Fiskars will replace via warranty any trimmer, once. I’ve used their warranty more than once. A tip if you find the carriage that houses the blade too hard to pull back and forth, a drop of machine oil, sewing machine oil will work. Put it on the rails and only ONE DROP is needed. Do more and you’ll have a mess. The Cutterpillar was a impulse buy that I regret. Mine feathers. I’ve reached out to the company and was told it was user error. So I use it very little and I would never recommend it. I hate that cutting smaller piece papers you have to use a post it note or tape it to another sheet in order to be able to cut small papers. I only mentioned these two because of cost involved.
Great info!! Prices on these higher cutters are definitely not for everyone. I agree, didn’t keep my CutterPillar and wouldn’t buy another. I’ve been SCARED to put oil on cutter. 🤣 I take your ONE DROP very seriously. Thanks! 💙💙💙
i have a fiskars slide trimmer and an exacto guillotine and neither cuts straight ! it's maddening to work so hard only to have a crooked piece of cardstock
@@CraftingandRelaxing i even had a few other people try them out with the same wonky result! i did file a claim with fiskars, lets see if they replace it with a better one
I got myself a knife cutter some time ago and I hate it. I eventually had to put it in the warehouse and never used it again. I had to push it against the body of the machine in order to cut correctly and even then it could mush up the tip of it at the very end of the blade. I am thinking of buying an actually heavy duty guillotine. They cost like 110 euros for an A4 and about 140 euros for an A3. Expensive but they cut as precise as it gets.
I love my cutterpillar... but the big full size one. It cuts smoothly perfectly every time! Not sure about chipboard but I’ve cut up to the 110 lb with no problem. I’ve had it for years & years.
I might have been happier with the big one like yours to support the sheet of paper. I damaged mine big time, but the company was so kind to send me replacement blades. I read the directions...it clearly said don't force it, but I didn't believe it.🤦♀️ I think I tried multiple sheets of 110lb. I don't recommend that!😁💙💙💙
There’s also the CARL Heavy Duty Rotary Trimmer and the Rotatrim Pro (on Amazon). ColorWay Arts has TH-cam channel has a video featuring these two trimmers. Also Posh Paper Lady on TH-cam recommends a Premier heavy duty cutter, but hers is old and she cannot provide comparison with newer models, so I am curious about newer models, particularly for cutting chipboard.
Well, funny update…hmm, not funny! I bought a new one last month so I could have two. It looks EXACTLY the same and had same name. I hate it!! It is terrible. The arm was really stiff, wouldn’t lift as far as my other one. I’ve only had it about a month and now the arm is so sloppy it falls. The arm doesn’t open all the way and now it falls down…safety hazard, doesn’t stay. So, there is clearly inconsistency in the manufacturing. 😢💙
The thing I don’t like about track cutters, including my Cricut (that I do love, BTW), is that they shift, regardless of how carefully you cut. I don’t know how to resolve that issue, and I’m sure it’s user error, but it is a HUGE problem for me. And I also own the orange large Fiskars too! Lol
The paper shifts? Regardless of what cutter I use I hold paper against the “ledge or lip” with my flat palm so it’s tight. Do yo do that? I’ll have to watch myself, but I think I do it on all cutters. Fingertips hold paper guard down tight, if there is one and palm on paper. Lol! That big orange Fiskars is pretty great, just so heavy! I still love it! TFW and commenting. 💙
I do hold the guide down, but I never get a straight cut. Must not be holding my mouth right, as Grandma used to say! Great video, and I will be watching more!
Here is a lady that knows her cutters! im in the market for a second cutter - my first was a lame lightweight one as im dealing with heavier and more expensive stock now I looking at those "bad boys" with some interest - Thanks for the insightful vid
So happy to help! I break a lot of things so I’ve learned! I’m still loving the giant fiskars bad boy aka procision rotary bypass trimmer! I haven’t damaged it. 🤞 Thanks for the kind words! 💙😊
I saw on another video that you have to put your finger and thumb on the two 'eyeglass-looking' part of the clear shield and hold down as you cut to get a good cut. If you know what I am trying to say??? LOL
I love the cricut one. It’s a great cutter. I’ve bought one of the fiskers and I hated it so much. And then I use my we are memory keeps score and cut. I use the we r memory keeps one the most bc that way I don’t have to fiddle with scoring. Tfs crafty hugs 🤗
I agree with you completely. Cutters can make paper crafting so frustrating if you happen to have one that dosen't cut straight. I have and love the big orange and the TH small and a track cutter. I got rid of all my others and it's worked out fine. TFS
Oh by the way I also think I have seen on another video someone added a little bit of oil to the large Fisker‘s one and made it a lot smoother. Might be something worth looking into
What about We R Memory Keepers? I bought their 'The Works' that has a trac cutter. I haven't even used it yet but wondering how well it works compared to others and with my Psoriatic Arthritis that is truly affecting fingers, hands & wrists. Maybe I'll need to go to a guillotine style. If so I've already decided on the Fiskars as I'm very interested in several projects that take at least medium chipboard. So...for my hands/wrists is mine okay or a different one would be better or should I just go to a guillotine style? If so which guillotine would be better for lighter & smaller papers?
I haven't used The Works, but it looks really cool and it might be easy on your hands! So many tools in one! I did buy a paper trimmer from them long before this video and I returned it to Joann the same night! I did NOT like it and it folded in half right around the 5 1/2 inch mark which is a hot mess for a card maker. It was TERRIBLE! The Works has a base that looks solid and goes 6 inches. Guillotine vs trac is going to be personal preference for your hand troubles. The trac cutters don't take much strength, but can be small/tricky to grab...but guillotines take a bit more strength. I would NOT recommend those kind where you push down on the big rolling blade for you (like the Fiskars near the left in this lineup). The Fiskars that I love is heavier to move the cutter for the hands too so it probably wouldn't be great for you. Good luck! It's all personal preference! You didn't mention what size projects you do? The smaller cutter you get it might be easier on your hands. I have only tried the guillotines in this video so I don't know many of the 12x12 ones out there.
@@CraftingandRelaxingI'm getting into Junk Journaling but I also want to do Cartonnage. I'm really intrigued with the Scrap Queen Sherlock Holmes Secret Storage Unit. So I will be using medium to heavy chipboard. I may have to have my husband (or neighbor son & his family) do the actual cutting of the heavy stuff and I'll stick to cutting paper and cardstock. I keep very busy with continuing my hobbies of piano, sewing (clothes & crafts), quilting, hand embroidery and most favorite craft counted cross-stitch. On my bad days I continue with my genealogy research. Been at that since I was 7 years old and spending Sunday afternoons with my great-grandmother listening to stories about her drawer full of photos. Didn't even know there was such a thing when I started writing down the names, who they were related to and the stories. My favorite was about my grandmother and her siblings, along with other children in the tent city having a funeral for a dead mean rooster. They were so happy it was dead, they decided to be sure by burying it! Lol.
Just found this great video ! Currently using the Fiskars guillotine that someone else linked you to. It has worked great but I've used it so much I rubbed the measuring guides off ! 😏 So now I'm in the market again 😝 Considering the longer Tim Holtz. BUT while researching I noticed in their photos that the rulers don't line up. The middle ruler lines up with the grooves on the base. But if you follow the grooves up, they don't line up with the top ruler. A lot of the reviews mention this as well. Does yours line up 🤔
The longer Tim Holtz one is the one with the “sloppy” arm. I was a loan so I don’t have it handy. Maybe some of them have tight arm. I will agree that the rulers on Tim cutters could be better. The 1/8 and one 1/16 notches don’t touch paper guide on my smaller cutter. Idk why they pushed those markings up toward centimeters...no markings near the paper. 😂 It works, but I would ask them to change ruler on next round. Ruler does line up on my small one.
That answers my question ! Although the Tonic Studio people assured me their rulers lined up, I've heard otherwise one too many times. I thought of just ordering one to see 1st hand for myself but have neither the time or energy to do so. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to respond 🤗 And really appreciate the effort you employ to produce excellent crafty videos. Plz keep up the great work 😃
I need to be able to make A5 sized pages from easily available high quality US Letter size paper. I have the brand specific Japanese hole punch to make them. Any suggestions on a paper cutter for this task under $100?
@@CraftingandRelaxing I'll be making 50 or so pages at a time. That should last me about a month. I chose a Fiskars Deluxe Craft Paper Cutter, 12". It was $35 at Michaels with a one time 25% off discount. I got a couple of extra blades also. It's actually probably overkill for making two cuts on a piece of letter sized printer paper. It is a joy to use though and works very, very well for my needs.
I had two guillotine cutters and I was never able to get a straight cut on either of them. I don’t know if I was doing something wrong or if they were both lemons 🤷♀️
The BIG orange cutter? I haven’t replaced it. It might be a self sharpening type situation since it’s metal on metal when it cuts? It still cuts wonderful. I tried to help a friend buy one a couple weeks ago and there were none on Amazon? Hope they are back. (I replaced on big green cutter -diff video? Because I damaged it. 🤦♀️)
Hi, I just got a tonic paper cutter at the thrift store . It’s gray w/teal rulers. It has blade replacements under neath it and a package of replacements was also taped to it. The problem was I couldn’t remove the blade section in the middle of the piece. I think that’s why someone got rid of it because you can’t remove the blade section😩 it should pop out, and I don’t want to break it, any ideas?? Also I can’t find any model # on it to help match up with the xtra blades.
Think it’s Tonic Studios Super Trimmer? That’s what it sounds like. Did you try googling and searching TH-cam for blade change help? I have never had that one. I wish you luck tho!! 😁🤞💙
@@CraftingandRelaxing it’s suppose to pop out with a flat head screw driver but I can’t get it to budge. It also had the score blade with it so I was able to pop that one out and replace it, with the cutting blade.
What about emailing the customer service support or calling them? I had great luck when I messed up the giant green cutter and I've heard others say good things about the Fiskars customer service. Maybe they can tell you the trick??💙
Another great video. I’ve been curious your thoughts on the large fiskars one. I’ve been searching for the perfect cutter for a very long time too. I think I may have found it. But not sure it’s for you LOL I’m loving the new Creative Memories rotary trimmer. It’s similar to the Fiskar‘s one where you have to push a little but I don’t find where you have to push a lot. I also love that you can switch out the blades and get different decorative looks. There’s not too many videos on TH-cam. Most are consultants so I felt like the videos might’ve been a little jaded LOL but there was a video by the crafting panda or something and that’s what made me take the plunge. It’s also on Amazon so if you don’t like it you can return it LOL thought I would let you know the Stampin’ Up! trimmer that you have unfortunately can no longer be purchased. I had that one too and really liked it but in the end I found that plastic bar really moved around a lot. It does appear that you are missing the strip where the blade runs through as well. It’s a removable place that you can flip around and use a front side and a back side. Keep the videos coming ❤️
Didn't I reply to you?? I was SURE I did, but this just popped up. I love the big orange Fiskars I have. It's been months and it is still my favorite for lots of cutting. The only downsides to it are size/weight (not great to film with or drag to tv room). I hope you found the perfect cutter!! 💙💙💙
I’m always trying to figure out a good trimmer, that (a) works(lol) (b) cuts straight (c) has all measurements from 1/16” (d) blades don’t need replacing every 5 minutes. So Thanks for the video. Subscribed.xx😁🧡 forgot one, prefer one with score board too, I make cards and journals mainly 😁 I’m physically disabled with back, balance and hand, finger, elbow issues- I’m doomed lol so yeah I’m fussy🤣
I tried a cutter/scoreboard combo and I did NOT like it. I returned it the very same night.😂 I think for the volume of cutting I do that maybe a combo isn't an option for me. It sure would be nice though! I'm funny too!! It's ok! That's why I try to give details of pros/cons/WHY so you know if my fussiness is relevant for you.😂💙💙
Ah, the search for a great cutter! Thanks for this video! My first paper trimmer was a EK Success Cutterpede rotary which drove me up the wall because it WOULD NOT cut straight 😑 I couldn’t figure out of it was the track, the mat under the blade, user error or some unknown reason. I bought the Tonic guillotine (identical to your long Tim Holtz trimmer, but orange) and the blade is a bit blunt in the middle. I’m considering either a Cutterpillar Crop or the big Fiskars ProCision 🤔 Do you find the non-rotary slide/track trimmers cut ok once the blade is duller? In my mind a duller blade would damage the paper/cardstock vs a rotary blade that would just keep turning. Does that make sense?
When the slider trimmers get dull the paper edge looks rougher. Then, you know you need a new blade for sure. 😄 Since I’ve tried the green one and the big fiskars one I would say it depends on what you like doing. The green one is better for PRECISION and lighter papers any the light is nice. The orange one doesn’t even blink at super thick card stock or chip board. TFW! 💙💙💙
The big orange Fiskars? I still love it and haven’t damaged it! 😂 Someone got one at Ross recently! I use my small Tim Holtz for small paper and cuts usually, but this big orange one is my go to for chipboard or anything 12x12. 💙👍
@@CraftingandRelaxing I love my Tim Holtz one to it works great. I need a 12 x12 one and I’m like you I need the whole board I don’t like just a small board with the kick stand that comes out. Thank you so much there 129.00 at joAnns and you can’t use a coupon on it . I tried to use it today with 40 percent off and it can’t use it:( so I’ll be checking the Ross.
Sounds like the right cutter for you! Amazon is way cheaper than Jo Ann, but if you find it at Ross it’s like $40. I saw one once in Jo Ann clearance section and didn’t buy it. 🤷🏻♀️🤦♀️ I think I had just bought the big green one so it seemed silly. Good luck! 💙
Foam board? How thick? If any could I bet it would be my big fiskars one. It’s spendy though. What about tools quilters use? Roller cutter, straight edge ruler and cutting mat?
They all come from different places. Which one are you interested in? The big orange one that I like is avail on Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B00QY1FDGU?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzsarah0cb-20&creativeASIN=B00QY1FDGU&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.11AG2UYGXH3KF&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d_asin They have all gone up in price lately! Let me know if you have more questions.
I Need someone that is aquainted with the Tim Holtz Tonic Gillotine cutter. What You CAN, & can NOT do, or Shouldn't do. There are differrent types of lines & marks (grids?) How to use those. I HAVE discovered there is a line that doesn't have markings on it and can be used w/an embossing tool I have to make score lines. I'm on a Tight Bugdet & that was an "Investment" for me, & dont want to mess it up,.(while I only bout about $25 for it, still an investment for One tool)... but get The Best & Most use of it as I WON'T likely be able to buy any other. ( I use cereal boxes n various food boxes, I dont use heavy craft stock. )
Cereal boxes and food boxes are thicker than some heavy card stock. They may be hard on the cutter. I’m assuming you have the one that cuts 12” long so it’s pretty tough. Search for that exact cutter on TH-cam, maybe Tim made a video when he rolled it out. If he cuts “chipboard” that is similar to cereal boxes so you can do it too! 😊💙
@@CraftingandRelaxing I Havent used it to cut them...I've been just cutting things like that with ruler & utility knife, or my Big scissors. I did find a vidof Tims on trimmers(thought bout That afterwards). And its the 8.5 inch...the same one U had there.
I just bought the big Fiskars for $39.99 @ a ROSS store. I saw it but didn’t buy it, then I went to Michaels and saw it for $129, I run back to Ross and purchase it. I’m way more happier for my purchase after al the good reviews on Amazon and Ytube. (Btw the original retail price according to Ross is $55 mmm ok🤔)
I bought mine @10 yrs ago, because it sharpens itself. It’s great, except it’s hard to find the 6” mark, and it’s not aligned, so everything is slightly crooked
I love my big cutter. The fiskars and mine is pretty smooth. Don’t get that but yes, takes some push but does the job. I like the push down kind better someday cause of my back versus shoulder. So yes and I have most of these and more. 😆 Tfs Hugs, Pea
I want a cutter where the blade can be sharpened rather than replaced. So wasteful to keep buying blades, but that's what I'm stuck with at the moment, my Fiskars sliding one needs a new blade so often. I want a blade that I can sharpen myself and away we go again.
If you are going through a lot of blades I think you want one of the rotary ones I showed here (giant fiskars procision or CutterPillar green one) or one of those arm ones like in elementary school. Most are believed to be “self sharpening.” I am still in love with the Fiskars Procision and recommend it frequently! Good luck!! 💙💙💙
Everyone is talking about Tim's new cutter, but I think I'll just sit tight. I absolutely love these two. If you find anything better, let me know!!😄💙💙💙
I agree! And I do not think your experience is unique. My old card class teacher/Stampin' Up rep has the older large TH guillotine cutter, which I often had to use when helping her prep for classes, and I absolutely hated it! I found the same issue with having to make sure the arm was pressed tightly against the base, or it would simply ruin the cardstock. And I found the removeable pieces a frustrating pain in the patootie, along with the unstable extended arm and lacking base area. Your review is excellent.
Nice comparison 👍 I have a paper trimmer which I hate 😖 I feel it doesn't cut straight and I hate that although my brother thinks that's the way I cut which makes my paper not straight 😠😑 😅 I don't know why I still keep it 🤔 anyway most of the time I use dies or a ruler
@@CraftingandRelaxing thank you my precious friend 😘😘🙏 I always say you are the best 😘😊 love you girl ❤ you know on ebay it costs around 70$ only to ship tim holtz trimmer 😖 the glaze powder costs around 40$ for one bottle 😑 most of the websites like sizzix and stamperanonmos don't ship to my country 😑
I hated those blade cutters without self sharpening blades. It's so wasteful and expensive over time! I'm really happy with my Tonic x TH ones. I would never buy something again where I constantly have to replace the blade (and then imagine the firm changes out the whole board and you can't buy blades for your board, like SU did. Lol wth? Nope, shitty imho). If I cut carboard I just use my ruler and a (good carpet) cutter, it works just fine for me. Please use some WD40 or oil on your big TH cutter lol. I had that with mine but a bit WD40 and it' don't screeches
I used those blade cutters for years, maybe there weren’t nearly the choices back then. Never going back!! 🤣 Finding the right paper cutter is like finding the perfect pair of jeans. 🤣 It takes some looking! TFW and commenting! 💙💙💙 The big TH cutter got set aside, no one loves it. 🤣
@@CraftingandRelaxing thats true back then I imagine the choices were limited. But we are lucky now, but we have to think about the environment even with our hobbies. Aaaw poor thing, I really love mine. But as I said you do you and thats great. Happy crafting ♥
Geez finding a perfect cutter is like finding Mr righ🤣 Wonderful vídeo Sarah❤️
It totally is!!! Everyone’s is different! 😂💙💙💙
Thank-you, this is exactly the type of review I needed before making a purchase.
Glad it was helpful! I would check out that brand new cutter Tim just rolled out too! I admit, I’m intrigued. 🤣 I don’t need another cutter though. 😂💙
Incredibly useful video! Thank you for posting!
Thanks so much! May you find the perfect cutter for YOU! 😁💙💙💙
Thank you, I just got the Fiskar one for 78 at amazon, can't wait to try it!
Thank you!
Happy to help!! 😊💙💙💙
Thanks for this excellent review. I was looking for a heavy duty one, and you saved me from opening a paper cutter store in my house. 🙂
Lol! Glad I could help! I’ve tried SO many! 🤣 I hope you find the perfect one for you! 💙💙💙
I recently got the big Fisker’s one and I really like it
My little Cricut cutter arrived yesterday with a replacement blade and scoring blade from Amazon for about $20. I had been using a hand me down clunky cutter that never produced a sharp cut. The Cricut cutter changed my new card making mission. Thank you for recommending this inexpensive little number. I’m smiling from ear to ear.
So glad you like it! 😄💙💙💙
This is a great video, so helpful!
Thank you for taking the time to do it!
Glad it was helpful, Maria! You're very welcome! I think I've tried almost all the cutters now.😂💙
Thanks for giving me idea whats the best paper cutter i will buy ❤️
My pleasure! I hope you find the perfect one for you! 😁💙💙💙
What an excellent video!! You are so thoughtful in considering different people’s possible needs when choosing a paper cutter. Thank you so much! This is super helpful!
I’m glad I could help! I don’t think there is one perfect paper cutter that fits all of us, but I do think we can each find one we love. 😃💙
Very informative, thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful! 💙💙💙
thank you for your generosity in your knowledge. much appreciated.. S
So happy to help if I can, Susan!! 😁 Thanks for watching! 💙💙💙
Thanks!
P.S. I do love my Cricut and Stampin up Trimmers!
THank you for this excellent review!
Whether I would buy right away full price to replace is always a great test on how much I like supplies. I agree, we got a good one! 😀💙💙💙
@@CraftingandRelaxing Yes, you do have to push down on it, and sometimes run it back and forth more than once. Thank you for your kind words!
I just found your video. Thank you so much for this information. I love the fact that you cover physical limitations I also have many paper trimmers because of trying to find what works for my projects. Lately I have been thinking of the Fiskars procision trimmer and you have helped me make up my mind. I am going to get one!
It takes up a lot of space, but I love it! Happy crafting! 💙💙💙
You are SO right! I am completely a fan now!! A couple of my friends used it last weekend and they are thinking they might need one too! 😁💙👍
Stamping up one is discontinued now in uk. There is a cutting strip to go in the space and this cutter has a lock to stop the strip and the plastic guard moving in transport and getting broken.
The Stamping Up one might be discontinued in US now too. So many products come and go. Happy crafting! 💙💙💙
Thanks so much. I've never seen anyone with so many cutters :)
😂🤣😂 I borrowed a couple to make the video, but most are mine. It’s embarrassing to show you the truth, but if I can help then it’s worth it. 😂🤣😂💙
I watched this TWICE! Great summary, thank you! I also have the 8.5" TH trimmer that I LOVE, and I was wondering if I needed to try to find one of the big guillotine ones - but I can see really clearly I don't need to do that - so thank you!
SO happy you enjoyed it!! It’s not a one size fits all situation. 🤣TFW and commenting! 💙💙💙
Thanks for the review Sarah. It's very helpful. God bless. 💙🤗
Happy to share what I’ve tried, Noreen. Finding the paper cutter that’s just right for YOU is tricky. 😄👍💙
Thanks. Best demo ever. saved me money because Ive been looking at them
Thanks so much, Minette!

Try cleaning the bars of the fiskars then add a few drops of mineral oil (cutting board oil). Mineral oil is very light, easy to clean and does not become sticky like machine oil will.

Very helpful, thank you!
Thank you for this video. I am in the market for a new cutter and your video has helped me make a decision.😃
I tried so many cutters! 😂 I hope you find the one that is right for you. 💙💙💙
It’s funny how the cutters pile up! $38!! Well done!!! 💙💙💙
I think you will love it, Claire! If mine broke or vanished I would immediately order a new one!! 😁💙
Would the big orange fiskars cut through stacks of 24lb paper? I’m looking for a heavy duty paper cutter to make journals. I’ll love any recommendations. Thank you so much. Love the video!
Im not sure if it would do “stacks” but it would do multiple sheets, for sure. You might want a tough guillotine for that? Good luck! 😁💙
@@CraftingandRelaxing Oh ok got it. Thank you I appreciate the response.
Your Stampin' Up! cutter is missing the piece from the track, you're right. However, it's the older model; the new model doesn't have a removable piece there. The new style blades are sharper and the cutter has several improved features also. They sell for $25
Thanks for the info, Kathe. I was actually surprised at how well that cutter works without that piece. 😂💙💙💙
I have heard so many good things about the Stampin up cutters! 😊💙💙💙
Sarah have you tried the Creative Memories 12 in. Trimmer? I t's the best on the Market.
I don’t think I have!
I found you through RareRoo and I'm now a new subscriber loving your videos hunni x
Welcome!! Happy to have you join me! 💙💙😄
I agree! Plus, I thought I was losing my mind because things were crooked and I didn’t understand what I did wrong. 😂💙
I think cutters can be SO frustrating! Those heavy duty guillotines with probably last forever! 😁💙🤦♀️
I use my big orange Fiskars for chipboard. So far so good! 🤞😬💙
Interesting that you love that Tim holtz guillotine cutter. It is my least favorite. Maybe I should use it more to get more familiar with it.
If you apply some silicone oil to either side of the cutter on the fiskars procision cutter it will help loosen it
Hmm, I might like just a tiny bit!! Thanks!! 💙💙💙
@@CraftingandRelaxing no worries
Tfs Sarah 👍 I learned a lot😊
I hope you learned not to buy so many cutters! 🤣😂🤣 💙💙💙💙😄
You can score on the Cricut one also. Just use your scoring tool.
Great point!! thanks!! Sometimes I travel with the Cricut and I don't know if I really thought about that. 💙💙💙

Great review. I think that I have about 4 of those cutters.
Isn't it crazy how they accumulate?? I hope you find your perfect cutter! 💙
I saw on another video that you have to put your finger and thumb on the two 'eyeglass-looking' part of the clear shield and hold down as you cut to get a good cut. If you know what I am trying to say??? LOL
On the Tim Holtz one.
I totally get what you’re trying to say 😂 I bet that helps stabilize it. TFS! 💙

TFS
You are right. I should get rid of the others. I do like the cricut one so I’ll keep that for portability. TFW, Deb! 💙💙💙

Lol.
its been 2 years, would u still recommend the Fiskars Procision Rotary Bypass Trimmer today? or is there better cutter now
Yep! I still love it!! I cut with it all the time! 💙
Just found this great video !
Currently using the Fiskars guillotine that someone else linked you to. It has worked great but I've used it so much I rubbed the measuring guides off ! 😏
So now I'm in the market again 😝
Considering the longer Tim Holtz.

How many do you want to make? 10? 500? 😄 $100 gives you LOTS of options.
Sometimes the guillotine shifts/moves the paper when it comes down if you don't hold the paper tight...and some things are just lemons. Who knows! 💙💙💙
How often do you replace the blade on that Fiskars rotary one that you recommended on your link?
The BIG orange cutter? I haven’t replaced it. It might be a self sharpening type situation since it’s metal on metal when it cuts? It still cuts wonderful. I tried to help a friend buy one a couple weeks ago and there were none on Amazon? Hope they are back. (I replaced on big green cutter -diff video? Because I damaged it. 🤦♀️)
@@CraftingandRelaxing Great to know!
Have you ever heard of a Peach brand paper cutter? I can't find any videos on it. So, it doesn't seem like best choice.
Never heard of it. Can you test before you buy? 😊
Hi,
I just got a tonic paper cutter at the thrift store .
Fiskars is replacing my 10 year old rotary cutter! Customer service e amazing even if it takes awhile.
Wow!! That’s so impressive!! 😁👍💙
I’m considering either a Cutterpillar Crop or the big Fiskars ProCision 🤔
Do you find the non-rotary slide/track trimmers cut ok once the blade is duller? In my mind a duller blade would damage the paper/cardstock vs a rotary blade that would just keep turning. Does that make sense?
When the slider trimmers get dull the paper edge looks rougher. Then, you know you need a new blade for sure. 😄 Since I’ve tried the green one and the big fiskars one I would say it depends on what you like doing. The green one is better for PRECISION and lighter papers any the light is nice. The orange one doesn’t even blink at super thick card stock or chip board. TFW! 💙💙💙
I am looking for this cutter and wanted to know if you still like this cutter . I know you made this video a couple months ago .
Good luck! 💙
Thank you :)
You’re so welcome! I hope the video was helpful! 💙💙💙
Can any of these cutters cut foam board perfectly?
Foam board? How thick? If any could I bet it would be my big fiskars one. It’s spendy though. What about tools quilters use? Roller cutter, straight edge ruler and cutting mat?
Where can i find. And order.the kind.of cutterCutter
They all come from different places. Which one are you interested in? The big orange one that I like is avail on Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B00QY1FDGU?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzsarah0cb-20&creativeASIN=B00QY1FDGU&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.11AG2UYGXH3KF&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d_asin
They have all gone up in price lately!
As a lefty, my choice is somewhat limited. ☹️
Dang, that is true. 😔💙💙💙
Check this out. It's good for lefties as well: www.tonic-studios.com/products/super-trimmer-153e
The one with the handle attachment is way too squeaky for me!
I agree! Definitely not a cutter I would want to use. 💙
I have yet after years of crafting found a cutter I love, but I think my eyes are crooked. Doesn't matter what I cut with it's wonky
😂🤣😂 Maybe you are crafting so fast you aren’t careful about sliding the paper firmly against the guide. 😁 TFW and making me laugh! 💙💙💙
Wow! If you got the big one for that price that’s amazing!! I never find good craft supplies at Ross. Great job! 👍💙
😆 Tfs
Hugs, Pea
We are hilarious about cutters! I wish I would have bough night orange one a long time ago. Who knew!?! You! 😁 I hope you are perky!! Hugs! 💙💙💙💙💙
@@CraftingandRelaxing lol
Perky broken today. 🤣🤬
It went out with that big project. 😆
It will be done in a few days
whimsical endeavors You are too funny! 😂🤣😂
@@CraftingandRelaxing 😆😉🤪
I want a cutter where the blade can be sharpened rather than replaced. So wasteful to keep buying blades, but that's what I'm stuck with at the moment, my Fiskars sliding one needs a new blade so often. I want a blade that I can sharpen myself and away we go again.
If you are going through a lot of blades I think you want one of the rotary ones I showed here (giant fiskars procision or CutterPillar green one) or one of those arm ones like in elementary school. Most are believed to be “self sharpening.” I am still in love with the Fiskars Procision and recommend it frequently! Good luck!! 💙💙💙
I’ve come to the same conclusion. Tim Holtz medium guillotine and the big Fiskars Procision. Done buying trimmers.
Everyone is talking about Tim's new cutter, but I think I'll just sit tight. I absolutely love these two. If you find anything better, let me know!!😄💙💙💙
I thought I was the only one who hated their Tim Holtz cutter! I have the old one that has the orange on the handle. It's HORRIBLE.
I wondered if maybe we just got a bad one!😃 Thanks for letting me know it wasn't just ONE.TFW!💙💙💙
I wish it didn’t cost a fortune to send you stuff! We could hook you up!! 😁 of course, you don’t need fancy gadgets you do such great work!! 💙💙💙
