I have played sso since around 2016/17 and have only ever bought a two week star rider deal for 10 sek, I own 5 horses of which I have bought three and I am at level 20. It is possible to play it for free it just takes a lot of patience and you have to know that you don’t have to buy every single breed nor tack. I longed for a star rider code so that I could continue with the quests and I had a lot of motivation. But since I am finished with most if the older quests I don’t feel the same motivation with the new quests. I have been “wasting” the last fee star rider codes because I don’t feel like playing anymore. The feeling of the old quests is missing in the new ones and I am slowly getting bored of it as well even though I do have stuff to do in game. I didn’t think I ever would get bored of sso since I have always loved it deeply but sadly it has started to happen. That was all for me.
I used to play star stable from official release up until 2016. Revisited in 2023 and I was baffled. Everything just felt off, coming from a formerly avid player. Microtransactions everywhere, the star coin prices are ridiculously overpriced for what it gives. It's crazy. Don't get me wrong, the new models look fine for the most part, but so many of the animations are lazy. I find the Fjord is the most sloppy and jank. The races are overridden with speed glitchers and the entire thing is incredibly imbalanced. I miss the old community, it was a lot calmer before the "new gen" update lines, and the revamps of the map are honestly disappointing. The updates now are just lifeless. The 'new' community is so toxic I can't even talk in global because there's an argument over practically nothing going on for an hour or more. Unlocking areas is confusing, the guidance is off and the events are really just repeated but in a different flavor. I just wish everything hadn't burned into money. I used to love doing races, the side quests and everything, but now everything just feels wrong. The glitching ruins the fun of it. The new UI feels incredibly clanky too, it could've been done a bit better. Maybe this is all just me, but I can't play it anymore because it's physically impossible, it's all so toxic.
Wow thank you so much for this input! This actually opens even my eyes up a little more on how people who left sso ealier feel like the game is really just NOT their game anymore. And i agree the glitches are too much and star stable doesnt focus on fixing broken horses or animations and instead produces MORE and ignores the problems.
@@NikolettSouthrainspeaking of not fixing broken horses The Jorvik Frisians have been broken since the character update. Not only that but they haven’t fixed it and sold it in the last bazaar all buggy. They r impossible to ride especially doing show jumping and races. It was a real struggle for me to lvl one I bought at the bazaar because it would jump in place or even just straight up teleport backwards missing the jump entirely. It was a pain and I stopped riding it. Same with all the horses with that model like the dragon magical horse I bought before the character update it was my favourite at the time as I waited so long to be able to get it after the character update it ruined that horse for me and I had to stop riding and training it but support never listens and they haven’t been fixed yet. But the keep selling it bugged it’s been I’d say months since I’ve pointed out to many times to count.
(BEFORE READING please note that I tend to sort of run on with my writing and my grammar isnt the best) I started playing sso back in 2017 with my friend who introduced it to me. We played a lot together and even if I didnt have star rider there was still a LOT to do. i remember the little pole thing with Josh in Moorland and the Festivals were such a fun time. eventually I got star rider for my birthday after playing for nearly 6 months without it. I loved my old character so very much and my friend and I would stay up well into the night just chatting and running around like goofs. Sadly with a lot of hobbies I fell off the sso train even after getting to level 18. This lasted a few years but then 2020 rolled around and with literally nothing to do I started playing again. so much infact that I got my old character up to level 22. In 2023 I wanted to try the game from a fresh perspective which is where Vendela comes in. I made her to be one with the world of jorvik. I was thrilled to be back in the snow as I created my new account in late December. I can say that the feeling from 2020 vs 2023/24 is very different. A lot of old quests are gone along with the holidays that took place in game. It is pretty upsetting cause it felt like we were celebrating beside the characters and now there are barely any events happening with a fun spunky atmosphere. Events now feel sort of "grind grind grind" instead of a fun thing to do with friends. I only got to witness the last valentines day somewhere in 2019 I think but it felt sad to watch it go away. The only event that feels close to the old ones are either star stables birthday or the winter festival. Our characters took some getting used to but I really like the options we have now for a lot of people to pick from and hope that by the official release we will have more options for body types. I am impressed with the new things we have gotten like the updated hollow woods, characters, silverglade village and so on. I do miss when they would release all the magical horses at random it felt like such a fun surprise. now we kinda have to work for them in valedale. I don't mind doing the work to get them but it kinda took the "this horse is limited and special" out of the fun of those releases. I also very much enjoy videos like this where it doesn't feel like people are lying to the people that are watching or making videos only for views. I understand a lot of the "popular" sso youtubers get more attention even when you search on youtube for creators it is hard to find just people being people. When I watch sso youtubers I prefer a calm relaxing entertaining fun creative space to listen or watch instead of just someone that is doing it for clicks. Because of my obsession over the game I own all the CD games the 4 season riders and the 4 starshine legacy games. replaying them puts me back to a time that I wish I could have spent more time in. It feels like that spark that this place had is very slowly fading. I will still be a big fan of the game cause horses hold a deep deep place in my heart and I do hope that things can improve even if it is at a snails pace. I wanna see more of the maine story quest, I wanna see the day when we have the entire map unlocked and I wanna beat the big bad squid/octopus thing. Seriously playing back the old games makes me realize just how much sso's current storyline is a little messed up. With that I will say thank you for reading this long long comment. You have gained another sub and I hope you have a wonderful day.
I’ve been playing SSO since I’m pretty sure 2016. I used to love the game so much. I used to train like every single day, and enjoyed the game even before I got lifetime. Now all I do is log on to feed my horses, take pictures and get off. The game has lost it’s spark.
i agree with all the points made in the video but sso is definitely not dying, the hype for new horses and updates is still there even with these negative aspects of the game, this is evident in the hugeeee spoiler community and content creators etc. great video!! I hope star stable develops positively and players enjoy the game with updates soon to come ❤
I can agree with all about this Is how I normally say sso is the currently game we have now but the real star stable online was from 5-6 years ago where everything used to look just good and SSO actually listen sometimes our opinions, since that sso doesnt hear US out any more and I agree that the game is dying cause they only CARE now about the Money and don't want to listen US, if they would, they wouldnt for example uptaded the characteres, removing the gen 1 fjord, and even removing events, like your paying +70 € for One game that doesnt CARE anything about the players They always say they want to Turn it out as a realistic horse game, but why do we need that, if we have a look most games that are played arent even that realistic, we just need One good game to entertain ourselfs not a realistic horse game, like why do you need realistic if from backs SSO only CARE About the Money, like is just to awkward and anoying
Is it still worth it to buy it? I used to play many horses games in my childhood but never played SSO bc i didn't had money to buy it (It's 260,75RS in my country), but after watching some videos I am confused if I really should spend money this game
It is a great game to buy! Ive been playing it since 2018, just remember no horse is free, (although with the star rider subscription you can get 100 star coins every saturday so it is possible to play the game without having to buy additional game curency) the quests are by far my favorite aspect of the game, i would get sucked in for hours doing reputation, training and quests! It all depends on how active youll be 🤍
@@NikolettSouthrain Like, i am very active in these kind of games, but the biggest problem to me is that it's too expensive in my country and I saw some videos saying that SSO might "die" (my english isn't the best sorry if it's too hard to read😭😭)
I think the title of the video should be changed to how SSO should fix it. Let's be honest, the life and death of this game is 100% caused by their choices and as an older player who came back 2 years ago and is now slowly going away again, I can say with certainty that the issue with SSO is their priorities and bad maintenance. For starters, SSO is choosing to be misleading in their ADs, the game isn't free, it never was, you could never experience the story and world for free and even saying Jorvik Shillings and items you can buy with them are free is misleading in itself. There aren't any activities you can do in game to gather enough shillings for a single event unless you cheat on Championships or on highscores. The game is fully pay to play. The price of every piece of tack is between 8k to 10k which you can't get daily even if you play for over 3h and do every single race and stable activities you can find. I used to strive for highscores and championships to buy my stuff and now I don't even want to try knowing how many cheaters and absurd highscores are out there. I fully believe SSO let's these people stay because they know cheaters push other players into spending star coins instead, that's why they let them stay, they profit for letting 3-4 cheaters in each server who get the shillings, while everyone else pays for the coins. So it will never be a priority to kick these people out running the experience to all other players who actually want to do competitive riding Another thing which they will never change is the weekly allowance. Long gone are the days where a weekly allowance was enough to buy the new horse. The prices are so high for them, plus they come out so often that you can't even save half of their full price before a new one is out. And I will be really honest, the latest horses are lazy in design, they are cash grabs for people to get FOMO from so you pay, again, for a horse that looks exactly like the one that came out 2 months ago. I still can't see whats so special about the dutch warmblood and the selle frances, they are almost the same horse, just like with the last pony they gave us, it was just a recolor of the haflinger with a smaller head. But still SSO and their youtubers and social media influencers praise every single breed that comes out, giving you reasons to buy the new horse and it's true, younger players don't want feel left out so they buy the damn horses. It's predatory. We don't need these many horses in game, but SSO priority will always be the horses because it's what gives them money. Thing is people get tired of paying for everything in the game really fast. There's only so many times you can trick a player into buying a horse that in a few months will go on discount or get a "better version" out as another breed and they realize that they wasted their money. Same with the tack, there's only so many recolors I'm willing to buy myself. I am tired of the same tack and texture being used over and over, there's no reason for me to buy the bear set anymore when I have a red version, yellow, lilac and now orange from the latest event. So if your weekly allowance doesn't get you new horses, and shillings doesn't get you the tack, and theres isnt any point for you to race because of cheaters, older players will continue to leave. there's nothing for us to do, the game as no interesting game loop, there's no activities being pushed to us that are actually worth spending time on. The game just screams "buy SC buy SC buy SC" and it's a sad truth that people are slowly realizing they can't keep up with those spending costs, specially when you become am adult If SSO prioritizes maintenance of their game by kicking the cheaters out, cleaning out the bugs, making the expensive tack work on all the horses we already have and instead of giving us horses monthly, for a while, they actually gave us fun activities around the whole map to would let us hoard shillings daily, or even daily missions or daily rewards like most online games do, people would probably want to play for those shillings every day to spend in events, and might actually stay to buy coins for the horses when those events come out. They need to create a balance, which the game doesn't have. If they want SSO to live, they need to give their players a reason to stay active in game, and they can only get that if we are rewarded for staying, aka shillings or star coins. Right now we are actually punished by not staying with the horse care which is an outdated system in itself! We know they need the money from SC to keep the game running, or so they say, so they should either make shillings easier to gather as a reward, or give us daily rewards for playing, otherwise the game will stay a chore you check in on when events come out, you check your wallet to see if you buy anything or not, and you leave and come back on the next event, slowly pushing you away when event repeat and theres nothing new actually worth your extra penny which is a loop I'm personally tired of
It’s being run by young, woke employees who would rather focus on activism than magical horse girls. They have no idea how to run a functional business & have ruined the story.
