Lol we had a concert for Christmas and my friend who’s in my class and also a percussionist had the cymbal part and during class I had to give her a que from my place at snare and she still got late but THANK GOD I didn’t give her a que and she got it
I was a trumpet player and messed around on the trap kit after school a lot. The guy who was supposed to play trap encouraged it. Our argument to the director was that I played drums better than any of the percussion kids other than him. The band director said that just because his percussion section sucks doesn't mean we could break the rules.

Being a Sophomore in highschool and currently in Front Ensemble, I can say with certainty that this video is extremely accurate!!! (Although you might be giving us a little to much credit on the middle school mallets. Most of us can’t even play the scales!!!) Love you videos, they always brighten up my day. At our school, all the classroom phones have the same ringtone. One day, while I played saxophone before switching to percussion, I went over to the vibraphone and learned the whole ringtone. The teacher actually though it was the phone and went to go pick it up. When she realized it was me, she just laughed it off. Then, my brother tried it. The teacher heard it and threatened to give him lunch detention if he didn't stop.
Sounds like you got a lot of dip on your chip man. Just relax, most people dont take music very seriously until high school. Just keep on practicing hard and help out others where you can. Also to answer your question yes this is very true of most MS percussionists😂😂
Just don’t get a big head about it. Always keep working. My buddies and I have helped rebuild our entire drumline after a bunch of people left my first year. Went from almost 3s to multiple best-in-class/division scores. Always strive to be better than the best and work with your section, not against them.

I was a middle school percussionist 35 years ago. Nothing has changed much except "Baby Shark" didn't exist. We were playing A-Ha's "Take on Me" on the keys. ;-)

I remember first learning mallets and not knowing what a c was. Those were the days. Playing quarter notes on base drum and having to alternate between 2 timpani. Now it’s “YOUR F IS OUT OF TUNE” and “ok so we’re down one percussionist so you’re going to play marimba 1 and 2”
lol so true, our percussion section went into the back room so much and was playing around in there and broke the light switch. Actually now that I think of it, our band director spent half the class yelling a percussion. This has happened multiple times.
Megalovania caught me off guard because both me and the other percussionists play it a lot. My band teacher showed me this video and I seriously can’t stop laughing.
Don't forget the part when your practicing some music while the teacher is talking and accidentally hit something. That is loud. And everyone turns to look at you.
When I was a middle school percussionist when my friend was playing 8th notes on the snare for the rest of the band to warm up, I would click my sticks off beat and play a metronome with a different tempo to try to mess him up with doing simple 8th notes. He would mess up and then the band teacher would make a bad face at him
When I was in middle school our music teacher would absolutely lose his mind if anyone messed around and he would spend the rest of the class shouting at that person until he literally couldn't speak anymore. I was with the percussionists and about the most we ever did was quietly make jokes when we had a chance.

But, not only that, but when another guy said “that’s disgusting” he said in response “it is not, my lips were chapped, if anything, it’s a blessing” We were all deceased
I was actually a percussionist in a school with a very high level music program with insane wind ensembles, championship matching bands, and trophy winning jazz bands and I can assure you this is exactly how we are The sans part hit home for me lmfao
