Great video Mr. Zach! I am a late in life photographer who shoots more for pleasure and my ego versus income. I bleed Canon through and through. It just has worked for me. I have owned 2 Rebels, two 7D's, two 5D's. Last year I made the jump to Mirrorless and purchased the R6. I'm loving it. I have always been a Zoom Lens kind of guy, due to Ignorance, I suppose. I did a Maternity Photoshoot last year entirely with my RF24-105 f4 with some stellar results but I knew I needed to step up my quality and variety of lenses so I watched numerous videos on the 28-70 f 2.0 and the 24-70 f 2.8. WOW! Too much information and a lot of dollars! I took a step back Looked in the mirror and realized this... I'm not a high end professional wedding photographer...Product Photograher...Corporate Headshot Photographer..or any thing at that Level. I just enjoy taking beautiful pictures whenever possible. I took advantage of one of the online Camera/Video Stores and I purchased the RF 24-70 f2.8 They offered a 60 day no questions asked return along with 12 months interest free financing if I pay it off before the 12 months expires. Sorry for the "Short Story" Keep up the good work and the honest reviews
I have this lens already but i did' not use it a lot. But the older EF 24-70 with the 5D Mark IV & Mark III gave me some of my best photos with no issues at all (like bad focus or everything else, just worked flawlessly). I hope the new RF will do the same on my R5. Please note that the Mark IV will stay with me for many more years to come as it is a perfect piece of equipment even though the new mirrorless cameras offer some more things that may help. Still though the DSLR's can be used and make great pictures.
Great Video Zach. Beautiful footage. When I switched from Sony I also settled for the RF 70-200 f2.8 and already had the EF 24 - 70 f2.8 from shooting with my BMPCC6K. I use the RF 50 f1.8 for casual walking around and for some low light situations. Other than that. It's a perfect and compact combination for all my professional needs. There have been occasions where I was absolutely shocked how sharp the EF 24 - 70 f2.8 II L is. No need for primes for sharpness anymore. And I wanted to get away from relying on crazy bokeh shots with low aperture anyways. So f2.8 is great for learning to get a better photographer I feel.
@@locsbcn cool that you can relate. I agree. I got inspired by photographers that show a lot of background with very little bokeh. I find there's very few photographers that actually understand how to compose and take really good photos when not relying on that magical blurry bokeh that is so easy to get nowadays. Nothing against great bokeh. But you know what I mean.

So much yes to this convo!! It's not just about wide apertures - I think that is where many of us start. Great video as a prime shooter I decided to go 24-70 and 70-200 for my first two lenses this year i’m trying to forget about the 28 -70 Now that I see that it’s on back order and everybody’s trying to get one lol
This really resonates with me, I totally get it. I have an aps-c camera, but I have been exclusively using only prime lenses for a long time, but recently I got the Tamron 17-70, and it has opened up a whole different world for me. I still definitely love my primes, but I was somebody who would never use a zoom lens in the past, but this Tamron is so good, and it makes shooting so flexible, it's just a great asset in creating art. At least for me with my filmmaking. Thanks for sharing, great video.
Thank you so much & thanks for watching!! I totally get it - using zoom lenses over the past couple of years has changed my life even though I still appreciate primes.
Hi Zack. I bought the RF 24-70mm F2.8L for the same reason you stated about video. The IS and standard 82mm lens cap and VND filters fit this where they wouldn’t fit the 28-70mm F2.0L. Now that I am doing mostly photography, I wish I had the 28-70mm F2.0L instead. I would trade my lens in a heartbeat now but fear I would wish I just had both. Or just do video with my RF 15-35mm F2.8L and RS 70-200mm F2.8L. I am in Thailand, and I feel like I could just leave the house with my R5 and RF 28-70mm F2.0L and be happy for everything from street photography, to portraits, to some landscape. It’s sometimes really heavy to carry my whole kit which I use a Canon R5 & R6, Holy Trinity of RF F2.8 L zoom lenses, Peak Designs tripod, and various other items in my Shimoda Explore v2 35L. It just weighs down that bag. Would feel nice to just go out with a 28-70 F2.0L and an R5 body in a simple Billingham camera bag instead. The problem is I also think the RF 50mm F1.2L prime lens would fit in between my ultra wide and telephoto glass well. The bottom line is there are so many ways to configure a kit. I watched Peter McKinnon for so long and switched from using Fuji to Canon and from all primes to the Holy Trinity. I am happy I made the switch to Canon. For video and portraits, the Canon R5 & R6 are just so much nicer in full frame than my Fujifilm cameras ever were. But more than anything, doing photography or videography with Canon RF lenses feels like a dream. I have a friend here in Thailand with the Nikon Z9 and I like his camera, but the lenses don’t compare. I have several friends that use Sony, but I feel like influencers got free Sony cameras and pushed them without truly understanding the ergonomics, the lens quality differences, and things like a higher quality EVF and much nicer LCDs on the Canons than Sony can ever touch. Love your videos and channel. I can totally relate as a Canon user. As someone who switched from all primes to all zooms. And as someone who is simply amazed at the Canon glass. Sony users just don’t know what they’re missing. But all cameras have their pros and cons. Just for my style, I prefer dual body setup with three lenses. If anything goes wrong with one piece of equipment, I have plenty of backup. I will say though, I never have to clean my sensor and never have had a problem with any Canon camera or lens. A good friend of mine uses Sony and he literally cleans his sensors on his A7RIV and A7Siii every time we go out to shoot together. That would be exhausting for me. My dream lens right now is the RF 100-500mm F4.5-7.1L. And would like to have a 2x teleconverter with it. Would like to do more wildlife photography and that lens would be awesome. Keep up the great Canon videos! Yay!

@@TheZachMendez I've noticed the flares on the RF 50 1.2, 85 1.2 and the 70-200 all look really nice and unlike some EF lenses don't just obliterate an image sometimes. Really hoping the RF35 L has the same quality.
Zach! Fantastic video, incredible photos as usual. Just as a heads up: the 28-70 according to Canada gets the same level of stability as the 24-70 when on a R body with IBIS: 8 stops. This is on account of the fact that the 28-70 has an image circle larger than the sensor.
