      But that is the reality my best friend 4.2 GPA 33 on ACT and a 1475 on the SAT one of the top ten students in his graduating class applied to Harvard, Yale, and MIT out of HS and all of them rejected him. I come to figure out that they accept you based on what kind of degree you want there and what your race is from the diversity quote and other variables and they look at you academic resume and they say hmm you are good at academics BUT WHAT ELSE CAN YOU PROVIDE TO THIS UNIVERSITY?!?! So the reality is you can be the best of the best and still fail they only care about filling in their quotas

    • @amaltaher2717
      @amaltaher2717 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @@AG-ck4wn that isn’t true. It’s just that every student who applies there probably has all those things, it isn’t just about stats, that’s where you are wrong. I know a white girl who got in with a 4.1 to Stanford and Harvard because her essays and Ecs were outstanding, and it says so on her admissions folder. You can’t say it’s all about a diversity quota because that lessens how much work the students who go get in put in.

    My teacher who started college at 34 went to 2 years of community, for fun he applied for a transfer to Stanford and cal state unv and he had a 3.9 gpa. He actually ended up getting accepted in to Stanford and cal state. Also, he was really bad at sat that he got like a 970. He ended up going to cal state because of his major

      @MrDodger3222 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Was it Cal Poly where he transferred to? This must have been ages ago since you said he got accepted on a 970 SAT. I had a tutor who also got accepted to MIT but she actually ended up staying close to home and went to Michigan State for her bachelor's and masters instead because she got a full ride. Kinda like my situation I was in. I wanted to go to Ohio State more than anywhere else and was accepted but I couldn't afford the out of state tuition so I went to Arizona State instead which was at least $15,000 cheaper. I still had a blast at ASU and will always remember the fun times I had there.

    Funny how I was looking at different stories from different students who transferred from community college to top schools because these videos inspire me. However, I’m a bit nervous because I’m not sure if the pandemic will affect my chances of admission because I know that some colleges don’t accept online credit and some of my classes have been moved to online for the fall. But then again, the classes are remotely. So are they REALLY considered online classes? Anyways, good video!

      Trust me your wasting your time not because your gpa isn’t great it obviously is but Stanford literally doesn’t take transfers unless they’ve done someone special like being a military hero or a artists who’s charted. Apply to other great schools who have worthwhile acceptance rates like Columbia, UCLA, UPENN, Berkeley, Vanderbilt

    • @MrDodger3222
      @MrDodger3222 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MESSI-fx1ob Those schools are almost just as hard to get accepted to!! But Berkeley and UCLA are much more community college transfer friendly which is a plus. But yeah, I left community college with an AA degree and a 3.2 GPA but it would have been a waste of $90 in my case too to apply to Stanford since I knew then that they don't accept B students with no extracurricular activities to show for. They probably would have started typing my rejection letter 5 minutes after looking at my application!! I transferred to Arizona State, just graduated a month ago with an BA in Sociology and a minor in Psychology with high honors.

    • @MESSI-fx1ob
      @MESSI-fx1ob 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MrDodger3222 UPENN and Columbia do take transfers just not from CC. I transferred to UCLA. But if I knew all my other options of cc friendly schools I would have applied to many more schools Vanderbilt being one in addition to Cornell which also doesn’t mind a CC transfer. I’m very happy with UCLA just think most people don’t realize that it’s not only UCLA and Berkeley who take CC transfers many other elite schools do as well. But u r right in the case of UPenn and Columbia they basically don’t take CC transfers but at least they take transfers, Stanford literally take like max 20 kids a year and from those kids almost all get in because of something unrelated to their gpa or test scores.

    • @MrDodger3222
      @MrDodger3222 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MESSI-fx1ob I know. But it's still extremely hard to transfer to these top private schools from CC. When I was at CC, my counselor told me that I needed at least a 3.7 GPA to transfer to Cal or UCLA. The typical community college student isn't going to be accepted by Stanford or even UCLA. The best universities I probably would have gotten into if I applied are schools such as UW-Madison and Penn State. I was accepted to Ohio State.

      I'd recommend retaking it if your score falls below the average for your intended school's average admitted student score. However, I'd also recommend not being too stressed about this/prioritizing this over everything else, as test scores are only a small part of your application.

    Hey, Iris! How are u? Loved your content! I have a doubt... As an international latin american applicant, interested in studying with financial aid/scholarship in the US, how does my Restrictive Early Decision application (that I would like to use at Stanford, my dream university) affects my chances to be admitted in other colleges? And using it at Stanford (or at any other univ) gives me any advantage other than knowing my result before?

    • @irisfu6929

      applying REA to Stanford will not impact your chances at other schools at all! Other schools will not know whether you applied REA to anywhere else, including Stanford, so it should have no impact. Looks like you didn't quite finish your questions/sentence in your original comment. Feel free to comment again with the full questions! good luck :)

      @@irisfu6929 Thanks for answering :) Ok... So, as an international student, according to what I searched, in Stanford and all the need-aware universities, if we apply for financial aid eligibility, our chances are lowered, because there is an extremely small, limited, number of scholarships. Due to this fact, I am very confused about how many of those are given to Latin Americans and if using REA will change anything in my admission chances. I mean, I am scared that I use it at Stanford, get rejected and, then, have less chances in other colleges because, in them, I would be applying using regular decision. Also, I don't have a spectrum big enough to establish if I would be a competitive profile for international scholarship at Stanford, so this questions and worries are making me quite insecure. I am watching your videos (and they are helping me a lot), but I still remain with some doubts...

Columbia University is like my reach school since it is in NY and my mom really wants me to go to Columbia since it is in NY. But who knows, maybe after 2 years in community college, if I get accepted to Stanford I'm going to say sorry to my mom. HOWEVER, I'm still a high school junior transitioning to become a senior. I feel like it is too late to do any extracurricular or internships if they are available, do you think it's late? I want to be in the business field, I want to do MIS as my bachelor's degree, but I have no idea how to express myself in my essay since COVID literally put as into lockdown. Also, I'm a person that is trying to get out of her comfort zone and trying to socialize with people, I'm doing it and my close ones are happy seeing me go outside instead of staying inside in my home 24/7

    Hey! I am from India. In my country, there is nothing like APs. Now I am in 12th Grade next year I will be joining my college. I am an average student in my class. But I really want to stand out from the crowd and want to study in the top ivy leagues. Please give me some advice that I can follow so that my chances will increase for admission. I am planning to apply in the year 2023. I have 2 years. Please guide me. It will be beneficial if you guys can provide me some kind of plan or something that will be great.

    Hi iris! Ur videos are rly awesome!! Can I ask how do u spike ur essays, and many schools ask why do u choose school XYZ out of the tons out there... do u answer with a personal anecdote, research abt the schools niche programmes or is there any other approach to doing it ... cos delving into the niche programmes can sometimes be a bit too technical so im afraid if they might become disinterested after some time since it’s regurgitation of info that they would be Super familiar with.. thank you!!
