So sad to see that you're leaving Cambodia. As a Cambodian, I appreciate that you speak the truths about here but in the appropriate way. You're videos will be the best guides for other tourists who interested to visit here. Best of Luck!
If you plan to visit Cambodia on November you'll probably notice that there is few Tuk Tuk left in the Capital Phnom Penh as almost every tuk tuk driver has invest in a Passap ( kind of mordern tuk tuk )which is a tourist and local favorite transportation. You can download an application on your cellphone and it work the same way as UBER. You don't need to worry about the rip off because the price is base on the distance which is more than fair. About the hotel , you can have a comfortable room from 17$/ night up to 5000$/ night in Phnom Penh.Depending which city or village you'll visit the cost will vary. About the hostel.. i would not recommend that unless bedbugs don't bother you.Cambodian people are very polite and most of the staff who work in a hotel earn around 5$ to 10$US dollars per day. I hope those infos will help you and wish you a nice trip in Cambodia

Hi maybe you should go to Angkor wat and so go prey lol temple I am recommending you to go to veal veng and somlot district it good for camping and travel I am cambodia boy too nice to meet you
Well, my advice to top up what you have just stated about tuk-tuk ride is if you have a local SIM card you can download PassApp, a local ride app including tuk-tuk and taxi and prices are set, no haggling for price and it’s so affordable.
For the tuk tuk I reccomend Grab or Passapp applications. It's less expensive than the tuktuks that don't use those apps. And price is fixed in advance, so you can see how much you are spending before getting on the tuk tuk.
Good timing YT recommended this for me. Im about to go there in 2 days lol as for tuktuk, i think Passapp (local ride hailing app) helps a lot to avoid overpricing or scam
The other important about Typhoid Fever prevention if you are traveling to that part of the world causes by eating or drinking contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. The drug Vivotif Berna, you can either take 4 capsules (needed every 5 years) or 1 injection (needed every 2 years) before your trip. Check with you local travel doctor. Great tips and advice sir. Greeting from Khmer in Minnesota!
First time in a long time that hearing someone correct the I’m from America and using correctly from United States thanks and big respect from the other countries that belong to America because America is a huge continent and not a country ( I’m American from Chile ) thanks for the tips going to Cambodia soon...
- sometimes I use the term America loosely. very often while traveling in Asia, people ask where I am from and I tell them I am from the United states or the USA... they look at me very confused, and then I say America and then they understand the meaning. so now often in my videos I say that I am from America because many people do not understand the other terms...lol if I say one term people think I am arrogant, and if I say the other term people simply don't understand, so I don't know what to do 😂
@@Edgesofearth Totally agree with you, I often, while I travel around Asia happens the same but in the opposite way, I tell them I am from America and they automatically thinking From USA just Hilarious… btw any tips for Angkor Wat? Ah. Such a great video. I'm moving to Siem Riep soon and this was very insightful. I've lived in Phnom Penh back in 2017 and looking to move back to Cambodia. So this was a great refresher and I learned new things too! Thank you! 🙏🏼
You should have been to the Killing Fields museum where Cambodia started its year 0. That would have explained you a lot about why we are who we are today
- I actually did visit that location. It definitely wasn't enjoyable. Such a rough piece of history to learn about 😬 But I can definitely see how something like this could impact a culture for generations..
Great job Brock-- very thorough! OOh, that key thing is scary. There's sommmmething going on with your camera that i can't figure out. It's like you're in 3D or something. When you reach out to do your "come here" thing it's like you're very dimensional. It's cool. =D . PS that boat tour was cool; but i got ripped off on one of those.
- I don't know about the 3D thing. Weird. :-) The boat tour was $25. This included me and two local people who came with me. I rented the entire boat for all of us. I'm assuming this was a local price because I was not even at the ticket counter. I stayed on the motorbike and the girls walked up to place the order, and then I came to pay. Do you remember what you paid?
From 3 years out of date pricing, that sort of boat ride(if it is within a 2 to 3 hours return trip), per person, is about 2.5 to 4 USD for locals. Foreigners'price should be about twice or triple that, so I think you were ripped off by the boat owner.
I’m not sure what you think is expensive but we used tuk tuks and they were so cheap. The locals used them too. So I would say just work out the price ahead and use tuk Tuks to go everywhere!
- Yes atms are easy to find. And cards are accepted in the major cities/towns. Cash only for street vendors. This country was hit/miss for me. It all depends on what a person is searching for, I suppose.
Leslie Lewis-Walker Bali is gorgeous! I visited many many years ago, but it is one of my top 5 favourite places ever. The beaches are the best I’ve ever experienced, diving and snorkelling (actually all water sports) are really impressive, seafood is divine, people and temples are sublime...a really gentle, sweet place to visit.
Hi just wondering how did you get the google translate to output the khmer translation? When I translate from English it says output isn't available in khmer? Thankyou!
- be sure you are connected to the internet. I had choppy internet while in the countryside. I do not think that there is a downloadable offline package for this language.
All the locals in the Philippines park their motorbike in their living room of their apartment at night. That is what you are also supposed to do in Cambodia. Even in North Dakota, my single friends would do that as well during the winter, because of thieves.
I am working here in cambodia... i want to go back to my country...can i book my return ticket to thailand and just cross the border...any issues that i will encounter?
i'm from Cambodia but I speak just like you but my others friend can't speak like you so I just think that i'm one of your people even I live in Cambodia :D
- 4000 riel is almost identical to the value of 1 US dollar. They will accept payments in either currency. There is no advantage or disadvantage, as far as I could tell, to pay in one currency or the other.
Hi..i m planning to visit Cambodia on september..i hv planned to take tuk tuk..but i way more comfortable with a bike..just want to knw how much will it cost nd will the police stops as i hv seen another video tht the police asked fr bribe
- depending on where you go, the price will be different. If are visiting PP, the price is wrong $10 per day. If you are visiting SR, I paid $4 per day. I only rented a motorbike three different times. I never had any problems with police. However, I go to the countryside and not in the tourist area. The majority of the corruption and forced bribery takes place near the tourist area. This is where all of the foreigners are. In the countryside, generally, the police looked at me and smiled. There was no interest in ruining my day. I usually see them from a distance, and take a different path, however. I tried my best to avoid them altogether. :-)
Great video! I am Khmer but born and raised in Boston, Ma. Planning to go with my parents next year. My mom said I can’t go with my 10yo daughter. She said the locals will know I’m from the U.S. and will steal or scam me!
- Stealing children sounds a bit extreme. I felt completely safe when I visited. But crime does happen. Scamming? Ha! Yes. You will be scammed all day, every day - with or without your daughter. Not only scam, they often plain refused to give me a local price when I called them out on it. Frustrating indeed. If you speak the local language, your experience will be sooooo much better. That is my guess..
Most Cambodians are genuine at heart and welcoming people ! The pure Khmers possess naturally a brotherhood and sisterhood attitude towards foreigners . I’ll spend one years in Cambodia by my accent Cambodians people know very well that I’ve grew up in others part of the world but mostly it’s such an amazing and lovely experiences visiting and making some friends in Cambodia . Generally it’s safe when it come for security or walking alone when you’re going to eat out but always be mindful to have extra company to go along would make the trip very interesting enjoyable !!! But remember Cambodia nowadays it’s not the same as before there’s also a lot others ethnicities Especially Vietnam and China that immigrated to Cambodia they will blend with Cambodians people and can speak fluently Khmers language and so far they are very good a dealing with foreigners so just please be aware things or scam can happen anywhere across the globe . Love Cambodia !!💜🙏🏽💜🙏🏽💜🙏🏽
- I do not. For all I know, the people could have scanned my passport also. I would never know. There is always an option to give them cash, around $35, and then they will use that as collateral without taking your passport. When you return with the bicycle, they will return your $35. That is an alternative :-) that method was for a bicycle. I also rented a bicycle for one US dollar. I gave her a dollar and rode away without any identification. I returned the bicycle and all is well. A motorbike, however, is different. They always requested a passport. I'm not sure if there's any way around this.
You mentioned you didn’t like that if you’re a foreigner, you pay more. Yes, you do pay more unfortunately. But, Hawaii does something similar at certain places. The locals with proper ID get local prices as opposed to tourists. Otherwise, great video. Very informative.
I know this is an older video, but I have been watching many of your videos about Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines. I was wondering what was your favorite country in Southeast Asia?
- Not everyone speaks English. However, I was rather shocked as to the overall percentage of people who could speak to me. Far greater than Thailand and Vietnam. I rarely needed to use my translator. But, yes, they're absolutely were scenarios where I needed to use body language or my phone. The people who spoke to me did not have perfect English, but, it was enough to get the point across.
Hi, hope everything is well with you. If you don't mind, I would like to know if you have taken any type of malaria profilaxy, since you visit so many countries in Asia. I am going to visit Cambodia for 6 weeks and I am a little concerned about taking the drugs, especially mefloquine, because of all the side effects I have been reading about. My doctor says that it isn't necessary for Cambodia, but I would like to know from somebody who as been there. Thanks for your time :)
- I am probably not the guy to ask. I am crazy. I refuse to put that garbage in my body. I do not want injections. Inoculating are body with dead and injured bacteria to build our immune system is okay. It is the harmful chemicals that come with the injection is what I do not want my body. It is poison and it is toxic. We can also take pills for malaria which is the better alternative. However, that is something that I still do not wish. I have no plans to get any vaccinations before I visit any country. As far as I know, it is not required. I will only do what is required by law. If it is not a mandatory obligation, I will not put it inside my body. Those are my views. However, other people may think differently. I know the limits of my personal body. I know how strong my immune system is. Some people have a very weak immune system and if they were acquire a small infection, they can have a big problem. I will not tell you what to do, but, I will tell you what I personally do :-)
- you can ask anything you want. I prefer that you keep them in the chat section, like you already are. This allows other people to read your comments and learn from our conversation.
Very informative. Good presentarion. Hand signage is a common thing in South East Asia. The single finger beckoning, for asking one to come of the West, is considered extremely rude in the East. Never do that.
It is the differences that make life interesting. Tourists get to experience it first hand by interacting with locals. Having an open mind is a great asset.
I am from East asia and I paid 3* times for my tuition fees in North America as compared to local people/ Westerners. So, the statement that overcharging does not happen in North America is not entirely true
- Correct, because the funding of thr schools are partially funded by taxpayers...and if you weren't a taxpayer in that area, then you must pay more. I dont agree with this. A school should be self-dunded with equal tuition for all. In the video, I was referring to common things such as food, water, transportation, and accommodation.
Yes true. I hate bargaining. Wish they learn to just put price on the products. When they don't have the price on it seem like they're more likely to cheat you whenever they want.

BUT they'll accept payments in riel, right?
Feels like I'll get away cheaper then.
Or what do you think?
- 4000 riel is almost identical to the value of 1 US dollar. They will accept payments in either currency. There is no advantage or disadvantage, as far as I could tell, to pay in one currency or the other.
Alright. Appreciate the answer.
I'M Cambodia 😍🥰🇰🇭🇰🇭🇰🇭🇰🇭
Your travels is great, I want to do like you but if I am successful with my videos, I will go travel like you too.
Same like in indonesia. We call someone with that hand gesture
- 😊😊
Thnks a lot..was planning to got angior wat..nd found tht tuk tuk cost around $70 for 3days..so was thinking of renting a bike

Love Cambodia !!💜🙏🏽💜🙏🏽💜🙏🏽
do you have a recommendation for a place to rent a bicycle or motorbike? reputable places that don't scam you if you turn in your passport? Thanks!
- Don't forget to always take pictures before you leave. Front, back, and both sides. Super important!
Don't take tuk tuk if you come to Cambodia just download pass app and watch youtube how to used it and it's so cheap. Then tuk tuk
You mentioned you didn’t like that if you’re a foreigner, you pay more. Yes, you do pay more unfortunately. But, Hawaii does something similar at certain places. The locals with proper ID get local prices as opposed to tourists. Otherwise, great video. Very informative.
tank you about talking of Cambodia
-😇
Good job
Hi, thanks for coming to my country. You spend less with food and guesthouse or hotel.
Hi brother ❤️🇰🇭❤️
- 🙌
Welcome to Cambodia
- 😇😇🙏
Planning to relocate to Cambodia soon on a new job assignment.. any tips to find good accommodation? Cambodians please assist..
I know this is an older video, but I have been watching many of your videos about Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines. I was wondering what was your favorite country in Southeast Asia?
- Philippines 😛
@edges of earth...so your saying i can expect the Khmer people to speak english at a local Khmer market???
- Not everyone speaks English. However, I was rather shocked as to the overall percentage of people who could speak to me. Far greater than Thailand and Vietnam. I rarely needed to use my translator.
But, yes, they're absolutely were scenarios where I needed to use body language or my phone.
The people who spoke to me did not have perfect English, but, it was enough to get the point across.
Edges Of Earth thank you good to know, I'm moving to cambodia next year to retire, I appreciate the response
This video had good explanation. Ml
I will not tell you what to do, but, I will tell you what I personally do :-)
Thank you, it is good to know your opinion :)
If I have any more question in the future is it ok to ask? I really don't want to be annoying :P
- you can ask anything you want. I prefer that you keep them in the chat section, like you already are. This allows other people to read your comments and learn from our conversation.
Use passapp cambodia it cheap 1000 rile for 1 km
- Many thanks! :)
Very informative. Good presentarion. Hand signage is a common thing in South East Asia. The single finger beckoning, for asking one to come of the West, is considered extremely rude in the East. Never do that.
- Yeah...there's many more that bi have learned. So weird to me.
BUUUT, that difference between us is what I love to learn about and experience 😇😇😇
It is the differences that make life interesting. Tourists get to experience it first hand by interacting with locals. Having an open mind is a great asset.
- 😇😇😇
Would love to see you in Cambodia?
- Maybe next time ;)
what am i missing by not locating the cambodian language in google's translator
- What do you mean?
Thank you.
I think your talk some is true and some is not because of usd and riel sometime not really 1$ = 4000riel, you can check with the bank
- Currency always fluctuates
I am from East asia and I paid 3* times for my tuition fees in North America as compared to local people/ Westerners. So, the statement that overcharging does not happen in North America is not entirely true
- Correct, because the funding of thr schools are partially funded by taxpayers...and if you weren't a taxpayer in that area, then you must pay more. I dont agree with this. A school should be self-dunded with equal tuition for all.
In the video, I was referring to common things such as food, water, transportation, and accommodation.
Really like night life in Phnom Penh.
Yes true. I hate bargaining. Wish they learn to just put price on the products. When they don't have the price on it seem like they're more likely to cheat you whenever they want.
- Unfortunately, yes 😒
good video, but bargaining at local markets is the best part of visiting Asian countries!
- Haha, no. Definitely my least favorite. 😆
I worked in C for several months. My employer had motor bikes that we could use. I used t hem everyday BUT I did NOT ride them at night. TOO dangerous
- Why was it dangerous at night?
Almost no street lights, poor road surfaces, multiple animals on the road, poor drivers, alcohol.
- Ahhh, ok. My concern was that you were going to say like organized crime or something like that.
