I genuinely think that Manson is a pathetic guy that just craved attention more than anything and tried to sell his pseudo-philosophical ramblings as some kind of ideology. Just look at 34:30 - this is pretty much the same answer you'd get from any random crackhead in a McDonald's parking lot. Manson said he never “killed anyone HIMSELF” but was also a known liar. Many people went missing while on the ranch. Yes-some could’ve been overdoses and were just buried, but there are documented missing people, some of which he supposedly killed him self. This was told decades later by some members of “the family”. If these stories were told immediately after their arrest, I could understand the argument that they were attempting to cooperate and get lighter sentence, etc., however they were VERY loyal to Manson at that time. Some died loyal to him. Those who told the stories were not getting out of prison any earlier for telling, as their appeals had been over for decades. We may never know the truth. Even if a forensic team went out and dig the place up by the acre and found several bodies, it doesn’t mean they’d find evidence that Manson killed them himself. I’m just saying I do not trust him, which I believe is reasonable.

People always think I'm nuts because I like some of his music. Look at Your Game, Girl is such a good song. I like to play it on the guitar and sing it. If you separate the art from the artist, you might find something you like. Cease to Exist is really good too, even though the words are creepy and cultish haha
I think you can listen to whoever you like and I can objectively say his music is not bad however I don't think you can separate the art from the artist. If somebody is a artist they are communicating something with their art and if the mind which is communicating is sick it will reflect in their work. So what exactly is speaking to you if you consume it? For example Marilyn Mansons work which is also not bad but really clearly inspired by his real life sadistic torture and abuse of young women. Or R Kelly. There is also a more direct financial support if you buy their art which indirectly helps them do what they do.

As a musician it might sound odd for me to say this but lyrics and words often mean nothing to me, what I find most important is the melody and rhythm. For me the words in there always come second. That may be because I'm not a singer, I'm a guitarist, but I also feel the same about literature, not just music. H.P. Lovecraft was undeniably a racist and xenophobic man, and even for his time he was especially bad. You could say that's reflected in his work, but at the end of the day he's not trying to convince you that your racially ambiguous neighbor is out to get you (even if he does have unusually specific and xenophobic descriptions), he's telling you a fictional story about incomprehensible aliens. If it's what you get out of it, so be it, but it's not the point of the medium. Some artists love to have hidden messages in their texts, but not everyone does. Sometimes a song is just a song, and sometimes a book is just a book.
Personally you can't separate the two. You must look and listen to the music with the lense of what that person did and just view it a different way. Don't get me wrong, i like some of his songs but they're creepy when you listen to some of them with the context of what he did lol

He was mad about not getting a contract and with the Helter Skelter talk he went on a killing spree . He was a failure at everything he except killing
I think the reason why he only ever "got close" to success and fame in the industry is that his talent was blunted by the fact that he was a psychopath. It's like the saying that ones humility should outweigh their ability. Because the business world is made up of people and involves social hierarchy and order, like everything made up of many people, someone who has that messianic, grandiose, psychopathic disposition just doesnt have the humility to start out at the bottom and appropriately introduce his talent to any kind of system that doesnt already worship him. This is the real reason of the murders, the house where Sharon Tate was killed was the former house of producer Terry Melcher who did not want anything to do with Manson's music and Manson did come fairly close to actually making a career in music, he had the support of one of the beach boys and his folk music was not great but it was not bad either, he had some catchy hooks. So he blamed Terry for sabotaging his music career,along with some others. While he may have used the helter skelter thing to motivate some of his followers, what he really wanted was revenge for not making it as a musician and he was good at reading people so he convinced them however he could to go and commit these acts to get revenge for not making it in the music business, NOT to create a race war, he might have said that but that was not his actual motive and the fact is he was a wanna be rock star who did not actually kill anyone but talked some low mentality weak willed people into doing so and bugliosi profited off of this bogus helter skelter story he made up. He was not a good person but he has really had his acts blown up and inflated quite a bit.

The pulling a knife on the studio engineer is explained by the engineer him self on another online video. Manso took the knife, a 6 inch switch blade out and was cleaning his finger nails with it. The engineer simply asked him to put it away. So its blown out of proportion here.

I think you can listen to whoever you like and I can objectively say his music is not bad however I don't think you can separate the art from the artist. If somebody is a artist they are communicating something with their art and if the mind which is communicating is sick it will reflect in their work. So what exactly is speaking to you if you consume it?
For example Marilyn Mansons work which is also not bad but really clearly inspired by his real life sadistic torture and abuse of young women. Or R Kelly.
There is also a more direct financial support if you buy their art which indirectly helps them do what they do.

As a musician it might sound odd for me to say this but lyrics and words often mean nothing to me, what I find most important is the melody and rhythm. For me the words in there always come second. That may be because I'm not a singer, I'm a guitarist, but I also feel the same about literature, not just music.
H.P. Lovecraft was undeniably a racist and xenophobic man, and even for his time he was especially bad. You could say that's reflected in his work, but at the end of the day he's not trying to convince you that your racially ambiguous neighbor is out to get you (even if he does have unusually specific and xenophobic descriptions), he's telling you a fictional story about incomprehensible aliens.
If it's what you get out of it, so be it, but it's not the point of the medium. Some artists love to have hidden messages in their texts, but not everyone does. Sometimes a song is just a song, and sometimes a book is just a book.
Personally you can't separate the two. You must look and listen to the music with the lense of what that person did and just view it a different way. Don't get me wrong, i like some of his songs but they're creepy when you listen to some of them with the context of what he did lol

I think the reason why he only ever "got close" to success and fame in the industry is that his talent was blunted by the fact that he was a psychopath. It's like the saying that ones humility should outweigh their ability.
Because the business world is made up of people and involves social hierarchy and order, like everything made up of many people, someone who has that messianic, grandiose, psychopathic disposition just doesnt have the humility to start out at the bottom and appropriately introduce his talent to any kind of system that doesnt already worship him.

This is the real reason of the murders, the house where Sharon Tate was killed was the former house of producer Terry Melcher who did not want anything to do with Manson's music and Manson did come fairly close to actually making a career in music, he had the support of one of the beach boys and his folk music was not great but it was not bad either, he had some catchy hooks. So he blamed Terry for sabotaging his music career,along with some others. While he may have used the helter skelter thing to motivate some of his followers, what he really wanted was revenge for not making it as a musician and he was good at reading people so he convinced them however he could to go and commit these acts to get revenge for not making it in the music business, NOT to create a race war, he might have said that but that was not his actual motive and the fact is he was a wanna be rock star who did not actually kill anyone but talked some low mentality weak willed people into doing so and bugliosi profited off of this bogus helter skelter story he made up. He was not a good person but he has really had his acts blown up and inflated quite a bit.

I wouldn’t have normally picked up on this but my birthday is also November 12 so I was shocked to hear November 13, and even more surprised to see the certificate that read November 12.

His singing style was the crooning type (like Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet) and that's what he was truly inspired by much more so than the Beatles, but on the other hand, maybe the 60s in general was a great time for anyone to get into music. There are stars from the 50s who approached the 60s sound exceptionally.

I discovered this album last year, likely entranced by how "close to me" sounded watching this video. Manson had the potential, definitely with a handful of nicely sung and well wrote tunes. as i own LIE and the outtakes album now, its a shame his version of the song mentioned and "invisible tears" didn't make this album, as i consider those two his finest numbers.

The pulling a knife on the studio engineer is explained by the engineer him self on another online video. Manso took the knife, a 6 inch switch blade out and was cleaning his finger nails with it. The engineer simply asked him to put it away. So its blown out of proportion here.
