    Thanks for watching and big shout out to the new Channel Members who joined recently! I added your names to the end of the video. I'm hoping to get a couple more episodes done before the end of the year, these longer ones can be a bit draining to make and tend to take a lot longer so thank you for your patience with the new videos. It's almost impossible to describe what I'm talking about to younger people who never lived or can't remember life pre 9/11. I don't think a single one of us watching everything unfold on live television actually believed everything would be the same in the aftermath.

    There were rumours that Hinckley's father was having lunch with members of the Bush family when his son was attacking the president, but I'm sure that had nothing to do with his soft sentence or why he's prohibited from talking to the press as a term of his release.

    Usually, being condemned to an insane asylum is no better than being imprisoned for life - in some cases, it can even be worse. Homeboy here got so lucky that he managed to make it out of there at all! I'm not worried for Reagan or any of his other shooting victims (although I do feel very bad for them and their families, I do not think this guy holds any ill will against them specifically) - but I am really, really worried for Jodi. I'm glad something like this will never happen again, but christ. Blood is on the hands of that jury if anything happens to Jodi.

      I dont think he will go after Jodie by this point in his life. Hes probably pretty salty over her rejection of him. But it's always a possibility, & she will always need to look over her shoulder for the rest of her life. I think the non guilty verdict is crueler to Reagan & the others severely injured by him. Their lives were meaningless to this would be assassin, & even if he was partly insane that's still pretty evil in & of itself

      This man went through decades of psychiatric therapy and doctors considered him a healthy enough person who, under certain medications, could return to society 'fixed'. What do you know that his psychiatrists don't? What makes you guarantee this man shouldn't be free?
      Wishing this man to go back to prison is similar to any other sort of negationism when you think about it.
      'Nutcases' don't get a green light to return to society without a detailed examination by psychiatrists and psychologists, which is why many never leave these institutions. If you still see him as one, you need to reject science AND go against these professionals, who combine for centuries of experience and came up to the conclusion he's no longer a danger to the people around him.
      Free this guy and people arrested for drug possession/trafficking. I bet the latter will go back to commiting crimes first.
      Edit: but ofc, John's crimes, if they were to reoccur, would be much worse. And personally, I don't think drug possession should be a crime, in case you're not affiliated with criminal groups, so even getting these people arrested is already a mistake imo.
      My point is that I believe John is less likely to commit his crimes because of the treatment he went through, while regular criminals who go to prison are a hit or miss. Some won't ever commit crimes so they stay out of that horrible place but some will just use prison as a PhD in criminality.
      Basically, imo a mental institution saying "he's free to go" is worth a lot. Would I be near him by myself if I were Jodie? Nah, if I could reduce the risk to 0%, then I'd be going with the 0% chance. You can never tell what others are thinking. But I wouldn't worry about this dude either. I'd be more worried if he had spent this whole time in a prison cell and somehow managed to leave the place based on time served and nothing else.

    Once a person has paid their debt to society, they should be released from prison. He did 40 years in prison and no one was killed as a result of his actions, yet people still act as if they are surprised that he is a free man.

    • @voteZDLR
      @voteZDLR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      It's a difference in America basically whether you successfully kill someone or not that determines the sentence. For instance, just heard this one story about a serial killer who would pick up hitchhiking women then sexually assault them, torture them, then finish it off by cutting off both of their arms and abandoning them in some remote place.
      The first victim it happened to (that we know about) remarkably SURVIVED and was able to give them a description that they would be able to use to find and arrest the guy. He only got 14 years for it. After everything he did to this poor girl. He got 14 years and was released in 8 and sure enough he did the same thing to someone else upon release except this time the woman died. He then was able to legally receive the death penalty. It was a result of his case that the rules were rewritten that if the assault or murder involved torture, it's like automatically the death penalty in California anyway.

    • @swisshakilla
      @swisshakilla 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@voteZDLR be that as it may, once a person pays their debt to society they should be released.
      The guy you are referring to should have been a registered sex offender and not allowed to just roam freely without any tabs.
      In America there are people with 40 to 60 years for marijuana, and the argument you’re using is the same argument used to keep them there and deny them parole.
      People should be punished for the crimes they have committed, not punished for the crimes they may commit in the future. This isn’t the minority report.

    • @voteZDLR
      @voteZDLR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@swisshakilla I really hope you don't compare people in jail with marijuana with monstrous pieces of shit like that. Like, I get it, I think people serving even a day in jail for weed is a travesty and a joke. I am not comparing those two crimes. That being said I have never heard of someone getting 40-60 years for JUST weed and if that has happened I'd love to hear about the case. That's extremely fucked up. Most likely the bulk of the charges came from additional charges even if it was conspiracy/RICO that sort of thing.
      Anyway, this case I was referring to happened like in the 60's or 70's and the law hadn't really defined that kind of crime appropriately yet. The judge wanted to give the guy life or the death penalty right away, but he legally couldn't so he got the maximum of 14 years. Out in 8 for good behavior.
      Again, you're comparing apples and oranges if you're talking about drug charges vs. serial killer murder charges. I think one is at a significantly higher risk of reoffending than the other, in spite of your petty "this isn't Minority Report" comment. Of course some drug dealers can turn their lives around, especially if it was a non-violent drug offense in the first place (which at 40-60 years I doubt, that's a really steep sentence just for selling weed alone).
      If it was up to me all drugs would at least be decriminalized and the prison population would be cut in half over night. I am not talking about fucks like that. I am talking about people who are so disturbed in the first place that they're not just inclined towards murder but actively act on it when given the opportunity.
      Drug dealing and/or use by itself isn't a violent crime. Violence frequently happens surrounding it all the time, sure. Competition over turf, etc. But it isn't itself violent.
      But honestly if you think I am lumping them in with people like the guy I described you misunderstood the point of my comment.

    Raegan was so unlucky to get hit, from the first shot he's almost bundled into the car before the last and with so many on and around him providing cover, still a round, a ricochet no less, had his name on it. Not as unlucky as Brady though, took a shot to the head 😱 damn lucky to survive that

    Restorative justice is so difficult. On one hand, he should be sent away from the public at all costs to avoid anyone else getting hurt. But it’s also been 40+ years… So it’s so hard to separate that lust for revenge (by “locking him up”) and hoping he’s changed over the decades. I’m glad no one died, at least.

    are
    sentenced to
    life or
    natural life
    when compared to a lot of
    western European countries
    who are more focused
    on rehabilitation
    and eventual release....
    that said
