Justice League Dark is a 2017 American adult animated science fantasy superhero film produced by Warner Bros. Animation and distributed by Warner Home Video. Featuring the DC Comics team of the same name created by Peter Milligan and Mikel Janín, the film is the 28th of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies and the eighth of the DC Animated Movie Universe.
Plot
Law-abiding citizens begin to murder people, believing their victims to be demonic creatures. The Justice League concludes that magic is the source of the crimes, but Batman is skeptical. Later that night at Wayne Manor, he finds a written message on his walls: "Constantine".
Five days prior, occult detective John Constantine and Jason Blood engage the Demons Three in a high-stakes poker game. Constantine offers his home, the House of Mystery, in exchange for a box of artifacts, including a chipped Dreamstone. When both parties are caught cheating, Constantine magically forces Blood to summon Etrigan to dispatch the demons. Afterward, Blood reprimands Constantine and the two part ways.
In the present, Batman seeks out Zatanna to find Constantine. They are joined by Deadman, and the two lead Bruce to the House of Mystery, where they meet Constantine; Constantine reluctantly agrees to help investigate the supernatural occurrences. The team then visits Ritchie Simpson, a collector of magic relics and old friend of Constantine and Zatanna. Ritchie, who has a magical form of cancer, is resentful of Constantine for abandoning him to his current predicament, but loans them the Keshanti Key, which Constantine and Zatanna use to view one of the victim's memories. However, a mysterious figure summons a creature to consume the victim and cover up the crime. Constantine and Zatanna manage to find how the victim was possessed and narrowly escape, with Constantine retrieving the image of a ring the spirit was wearing.
They return to Ritchie's to identify the ring, but find him close to death with Blood standing over him. Constantine pursues and captures Blood while Batman administers adrenaline to revitalize Ritchie. They take Ritchie and Blood back to the House of Mystery, and Constantine charges Black Orchid, the House's spiritual embodiment, with tending to Ritchie while the rest interrogate Blood. Blood explains that he sought to access the House of Mystery and retrieve the Dreamstone, and found Ritchie dying at the scene. He reveals that, centuries ago, the sorcerer Destiny created the Dreamstone in an attempt to overthrow Camelot, forcing people to see their worst nightmares and feeding off their torment. Blood was mortally injured in the battle, prompting Merlin to summon Etrigan to defeat Destiny, whose soul was imprisoned in the Dreamstone. After the battle, Merlin bound the dying Blood and Etrigan together, knowing that they would be needed in the future.
Ritchie briefly wakes and claims Felix Faust was his assailant. With Swamp Thing's help, the group locates Faust's observatory, defeating him in battle and concluding that he is innocent. Ritchie awakens and is revealed to have the other piece of the Dreamstone, which has been keeping his cancer in remission; he takes over the House and forces Black Orchid to burn her own body to ash. Constantine tries to convince Ritchie that Destiny is manipulating him, but Destiny uses the Dreamstone to take control of his body.
Destiny destroys the House and departs; Zatanna saves the group, but passes out from exertion. The Justice League tries to fight Destiny, but his magic forces them to turn on each other. Etrigan attacks, but is separated from Blood. Constantine summons Swamp Thing, who engages Destiny while Batman and Zatanna subdue the League. Destiny rips Alec Holland's corpse from Swamp Thing, breaking his will and forcing him to withdraw. Constantine tricks Destiny into bringing him and Deadman within his shield, allowing Deadman to control Destiny long enough for Blood to fatally wound him with Etrigan's sword. Constantine and Batman destroy the Dreamstone, bringing back Ritchie, who is dragged to Hell for his sins, ensuring that Destiny cannot come back. Blood succumbs to his original wounds, and is buried near the site of his old village. Zatanna, having agreed to join the League, offers Constantine a position as well. He declines, claiming that Batman would not approve, but Zatanna states it was Batman's idea. The two return to the reconstructed House of Mystery to discuss their League applications, and Deadman joins the restored Black Orchid as her soulmate.

Felix goes toe to toe with Batman, Etrigan and Constantine at the same time but instantly craps himself when Zatanna gets her powers back, because she's that scary
To be fair: Batman is not only out of his field of expertise, but also not a powerful fighter, compared to the likes of Etrigan, Constantine, etc.
Zatanna not only comes from a human offset that LITERALLY evolved to be natural magic caster, but she personally is one of the few magic users that has natural reality bending powers.
John can do that to... but he is a trickster, he does it by way of knowing every trick in the book and even having made at least half of the book, but Z... at her peak reality is a canvas and she is the painter.

Felix Faust had actually cast a "silencing barrier" in his sanctum sanctorium to prevent women from speaking, and since Zatanna had to speak backwards to cast spells, this barrier shut down most of her powers and limited her abilities, but she quickly proved that she could still use her magic to a limited degree even when unable to use her voice, her non-verbal spells allowed her temporarily hold Felix Faust off and find the source of the "silencing barrier", a statue of a winged woman that had been gagged by a strip of cloth, she quickly grabs the statue and gets rid of the gag, allowing her to speak again, and once she got her voice back, she starts chanting uncontrallably and gives Felix Faust a beat down that would have killed him if John Constantine hadn't intervened

@@Lliamhd Constantine was telling her to let go of her anger. Killing someone out of rage damages the soul, which is why Constantine stated she was 'still in the clear' and no blood has been spilt from that rage. Constantine probably knows from experience. The act of taking life is said to 'chip away' at your soul, similar to Voldemort tearing his own soul apart for how many people he murdered in cold blood. Despite Faust being a bad man willing to kill them, his soul was slready damaged, but Zatanna's was not.

I loved how in the beginning of the movie, Batman doesn't believe in magic and every time that Zatanna and John perform magic Batman just groans 😂😂😂
He does believe in magic, just doesn’t believe it IS magic as people commonly describe it. He’s of the mind it is just a science not fully understood yet, he’s all about a method to the madness and with magic there’s plenty of method and madness. Also, Batman certainly believes magic is a thing because he was taught by Zatanas father Zatara why exactly Bruce of all people shouldn’t ever use magic. Bottom line, Batman is too damaged as it is, him using magic would utterly corrupt him, he knows this so he’s adverse to magic understandably so, but he does believe it’s real, well he knows for a fact it’s real.

i loooooove how they get the actress to record the spell forwards and then play it backwards to make it sound more creepy as opposed to having her just record it backwards like they normally do. it adds a whole level of inhumane that really communicates how scary powerful Z is.

We gotta give props to this guy's intelligence 👏 for actually understanding his opponents beforehand since he was right that Zatanna really was the biggest threat at he fended the others like it was child's play.

The thing is, magical heroes in DC are pretty much gods. Their limits are mostly arbitrarily contrived to fit the story the writer is trying to tell. Zatanna doesnt even need to speak to do magic and the limit to her magic is "if she believes in herself and what she wants to do, she can do it" effectively meaning shes like the Superman of magic, but to even top it off, Supermans only real weakness besides kyptonite is magic, so Zatanna could even beat Superman if given the chance. The only real entities that "could" beat Zatanna would be higher dimensional beings like Darkseid or the 4th dimensional imp since they can warp reality. Other Magic Heroes are really strong as well, such as Dr. Fate, i think the thing is that when you have a character who abilities are nebulous and their weaknesses arbitrary, it makes the story hard to tell because in practice they should be able to one shot the baddies but they cant because plot so it doesnt feel good because the hand of the writer is felt in that instance

Yes but also no. Magic users in the dc universe still follow certain rules and restrictions regarding their abilities. Not that they do not have weaknesses, more like their weaknesses are still not discovered compared to one of the main characters of dc like superman.

Dr. Fate's weakness is literally that he's both confined to the helm and that he needs a human host. That means his host can burn out and that if the helm is damaged enough, Dr. Fate ceases to exist.

I'm a very Zatanna fan and I'm excited thad she's got included in the DC animated movies, I love her. But I kind of don't like this movie somehow,the creator of this movie really likes a batman a lot and that's the reason why I don't like the movie because of him. It's not the same in the comics, batman was never part of Justice League Dark he got no involvement with them. They may have different team members but Batman was never was.

god this is what i miss I grew up on the original Justice League and then grew up on the dark Justice League man this is so awesome my childhood! I always wondered what that statue was that she used! Also Justice League always balanced out the whole sexism and racism thing and Made it work. They where not afraid to show it and how they show it overcome it.

I eat and shit magic like food, most magic doesn’t even affect me anymore, it’s funny to see the cocky magic user attack me with a fire ball and it just vanishes giving me more power,funnier is the face they make when I start using magic 😂
