    "I think Zelda 2 is better than people remember." So, so true. I remember, back when this game was released, the general consensus among the kids at my school was that it was a lot harder than the first game, but still really good. It seems to be hated more than liked now in the internet age, but that wasn't always the case!

    • @NYCHeavyHitz212
      @NYCHeavyHitz212 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Though always very playable, a part of me hated it because it wasn’t traditional(not sure if we could call that at the time but definitely can now) Zelda. Good game but definitely a bump on the road in the franchise.

    Okay, I’ve got one for you: “Ice Hockey”.
    It’s a great little hockey game, it’s a shame that it hasn’t gotten more attention than it has. I don’t see an SNES sequel for it so much as something modern, in the same vein as that “Excitebike” sequel on the Wii: keep the gameplay and the perspective more or less the same, but give it modern graphics and online play.

    Uninvited
    Solomon's Key
    StarTropics
    Castlevania 2 style

    Cool video and lots of solid choices there. Agreed on Zelda II. It really is revisionist history when everyone goes around saying Zelda II was considered a disappointment or that fans rejected it. Practically everyone I knew back then played the game and I don't remember one person complaining. Oddly, as much as I love Zelda II, I never considered Nintendo making a direct sequel. That's a great idea.
    And I'd love to see a proper Kid Icarus sequel. You have a great channel man.

      You re 100% right. Ive said almost the exact same thing in regards to the revisionists on Zelda 2. I remember back then when it came out and I never heard anyone say it was a bad game - now maybe a hard game but plenty of NES game were ball busters. Id love to see a new Zelda game in that style. And I agree on the Kid Icarus thing too (underrated Nintendo developed game for sure)

    • @chiarosuburekeni9325
      @chiarosuburekeni9325 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certainly not revisionist history. This game was WTFd like crazy back in the day. If anything I'd say time has been kind to it, as the love only really surfaced during the internet era.

    Blaster Master 2 sucked on the Genesis. I remember reading they outsourced it to a european dev or something. Also to note, there's actually a Kunio-kun/River City Ransom game on the SNES. It's called Shodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

    • @Ruudos
      @Ruudos 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it was developed by UK-base Software Creations. A hit or miss developer.

    • @ClawMacKain
      @ClawMacKain 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Frankly it wasn't outsourced. Sadly the UK company that did it, made it without permission or lead from Sunsoft. And so Blaster Master 2 was considered not to be an actual sequel. We did eventually get a game that was more of a sequel in a way on the original Playstation with Blaster Master: Blasting Again, though it can't really live up to how good the original Blaster Master was.

    • @MrJWTH
      @MrJWTH 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ClawMacKain I'f they did not have permission how were they even able to legally release it. Sunsoft should have had a trademark on Blaster Master.

    • @ClawMacKain
      @ClawMacKain 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This was back before the internet was really a thing, back in the NES days. The company that made Blaster Master 2 was a British company that made the game before Sunsoft even knew about it being made. Back in those days there was all kinds of unofficial and bootleg games being made.

    One NES game I think should've gotten a SNES sequel was Mach Rider. I know the game is repetitive and all, but I think it's premise and setting had some untapped potential, and that type of game would lend itself well to the SNES' mode 7 capabilities. Plus, a game set in a Mad Max esc post apocalyptic world where you ride a motor cycle and shot people to make them go boom could have help with Nintendo's "kiddie" image problem that they struggled with (and still do to this day even). Also, I want a StarTropics 3 damn it!

    • @hpph7133
      @hpph7133 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I remember playing the Super Famicom sequel and just punching everyone until eventually every time someone saw me, it was a fight. It didn't have the charm in the changed art style and having a translation patch probably would have helped because I did figure there was a story when I ran into some kids beating up someone that seemed like a friend to Kunio. The NES one where they're doing historical set pieces in Japan was fun and I think I came across a pre patched English version of the ROM so I wasn't completely lost. The announcer between scenes made me laugh.

    Metalstorm is my favorite game in my NES collection. Such a classic and also a really advanced technical showcase, with the parallax scrolling and other visual features.
    A SNES sequel would have been great, but there are already a ton of great mech platformers on the system.

  • @JoshuaDuChene

    I'm in total agreement regarding Zelda II. My friends and I were really disappointed by it when it was released, but I revisited it a decade ago and couldn't believe how awesome it was. Stepping up to it expecting nothing special, I was baffled by how engaged I became and how much less confusing it seemed. It's a ROM I still get back into now and again.I would have loved to have seen an SNES Zelda II sequel released after A Link to the Past, reflecting the release of the original two games. Perhaps it could have even led to the creation of two distinct branches and styles of Zelda. While a few mechanics from Zelda II made it into future Zelda games, imagine what Zelda II could have evolved into over the past three decades if it had continued on its own unique trajectory.

    Super Nintendo should have had way more Metroidvania type games. NES had Metroid, Zelda 2, Castlevania 2, Rambo, Goonies 2, Rygar, and Battle of Olympus to name a few. A lot of these games had flaws but could have been made much better on SNES. This was somewhat remedied on GBA, but I still think there were a lot if missed opportunities here.

    Metal Storm was awesome! As a kid, I killed myself picking strawberries in the hot Summer sun for weeks at 10 cents a pint with the goal of buying it since my parents wouldn’t spend the money and thought it was as good a time as any to teach me the value of hard work. As soon as I got enough cash, I quit. It was practically slave labour, but worth it as I played the shit out of that game for years to come.I loved it! As a bonus, I learned from an early age the “value” of hard work and how much it blows.

    So, interesting thing about listing Zelda 2 in this video: Ocarina of Time was originally planned as a "refinement" of Zelda 2's playstyle, hence the increased emphasis on swordplay in the 3d Zeldas. That original plan ended up being rehauled into what we got in Ocarina instead.

    A zelda 2 remake with more reasonable difficulty curves and better npcs/ambiance would probably be a really good classic game that I would love to play. There are a million other improvements that could be made to make it even better. A "reimagining" instead of just a remake, would probably go over very well

    Excitebike is one classic big one not mentioned here. It didn't get a 16 bit iteration unless you count the Japanese-only Satellaview-exclusive version (although it's just the same as the NES game but with new graphics).

    Looks like your wish for a Blaster Master sequel in the same vein as the original might come to forwishen a handful of generations late with Blaster Master Zero

    Error is not pointless! The first time you meet him, he just tells you his name, but this is just to set it up for later, when someone else in Mido tells you to "ASK ERROR OF RUTO" for an important hint. Granted, they weren't doing themselves any favors with a weird name like that, like it's no surprise that very few people understood that "I AM ERROR" means "my name is Error".

    I am a huge fan of Blaster Master!
    If you have not checked them out yet, Blaster Master Zero & Zero 2 for the Nintendo switch are phenomenal!
    Both bring something new to the table, but maintain the same great core gameplay.

    Duck Tales is one of the best NES games for me and the same goes for Duck Tales on the GameBoy.

    Just a quick thought on Zelda II: one hugely important change would be increasing Link's sword length. Besides making saving friendlier, that was probably my biggest gripe.

      @Aaron Thanks for the tip, though I was also talking about having to (almoat) always start from the starting place instead of continuing from the beginning of a dungeon, the last town you visited, etc. :)

    Apparently there was Blaster Master Overdrive on the Wii, as well as sequels on other systems, according to a recent Stop Skeletons from Fighting video. Just, nothing on SNES.

    Re-watching this video again after playing Blaster Master 0.3's true ending gives me a sense of a prophecy fulfilled. Back then you didn't know you what was coming, but you sure knew what you were saying!
    To see Jason's 3-part story in all its beauty after the marvelous dudes at Inti Creates gave the series the love and polish it deserved was sooo gratifying, and gives me hope that some other games may end up getting the treatment. And I sure hope Inti Creates' next Sunsoft jewel remake is Journey to Sirius. That game DESERVES to be remade.
    Another one would be King of Monsters, but I'll understand if that one is a liiittle bit harder to remake (pretty unknown game from pretty unknown company, but cool nonetheless).

    They actually did made a SNES sequel to River City Random. It only came out in Japan.

    Blaster Master didn't get an SNES sequel, at the time just a Genesis one, and a PS1 game. It recently did get what looks to be a remaster of the first game, though it crosses elements of the US and Japanese versions. It's on the new Nintendo consoles.

    They should have made Blades Of Steel on SNES, that would of been awesome, I had a lot of fun with that game.

    Fun fact about the GBA copy of Crystalis: You can't complete it. (unless subsequent releases patched this issue.) Once you go into the final area, the last boss never spawns and you're stuck in that room.

    Fam, Blaster Master was a great game. They could release a sequel now and I would cop it. The music was great. Never played the Genesis sequel. Could you imagine the graphics upgrade with better gameplay? Now that would a game to play while doing social distancing.
