What a magical story. I wasn't certain where it was going at 1st but it soon had me hanging on every word...completely absorbed. The accompanying picture made me think of my grandfather, who I have missed every day since he passed in 1994. Thanks so much for posting these wonderful and timeless stories!

What a lovely gentle story...apart from the son in laws jealousy! .. there is no doubt that people with healing hands are fewer and harder to find these days, growing up in Ireland we took the existence of such rare people as the norm & common knowledge.
I was a chronic Asthmatic ,always very ill and weak from the very damp cold climate , I still clearly remember my mother taking my brother , who suffered also, and myself , to a faith healer. She spent time , and laid hands on us individually , I remember feeling myself get very sleepy as I didnt have to fight for each breath, and then coming home from there being able to walk to my nans home nearby.
I didnt have another chronic attack for years after , I was definitely healed that day to a large degree. Some people believe in the persons abilities and others may believe it is psychological , I just know that she helped me more than the legions of doctors and hospitals ever did. I was 8yrs old , am now 47, and I can vividly remember the relief of being able to stop battling for breath and just sleep.

I believe you, and I believe that the people being so few and far apart is also because they have to believe completely that they can do it, or they just began with it as a given that they could. I believe that kind of complete faith is why they are so rare these days, and possibly why miracles seem so much a thing of the past, in stories that tell of such accounts. I'm glad that it had such an effect on your health. Be well, and thank you for sharing.

@@kafan439 Thank you for your comment, yes I believe it takes a lot of faith and confidence in their abilities. You can feel a different energy around such people.

The days of old time radio are gone and for what.....facebook and digital info overload. What a joke. Thanks for the uploading of kickass programs

This story certainly has a few funny wacky moments.
E.g., one moment the son-in-law tries to choke the father to death, the next moment they're all joyful. Or... striking the head with the bible.

Yes,, this is just a story
but think of the Bible when we were young and the stories of Jesus and how he healed people with his hands
You may Believe it or you may not I do believe do you believe in Jesus. ( Here's another thought ) Way before, way before I got hurt I wish I had someone that could touch me and heal me ?
    Maybe some day
when my time comes and Jesus allows me to go to heaven I won't be the person that I am now. I'll be able to move & walk like every other normal Man.
That's not part of this story that's the reality of me.
Thank you I will move on to the next story

  • @queenashantee8432
    @queenashantee8432 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Such a wonderful story and indictment of faith and knowing that there are those even now who have healing hands. Science is predicated on investigation and thus make hypothesis on the what, when, who and why's of an issue or such that it may be - 'a problem' Faith is that, the hope of something greater than da imagination that what is needed will become eventually. A great story.....thank you. ;-))

  • @dontaylor7315

"She's trying to raise her head" transcribed as "His brown Eraserhead." "Otto's mare" became "others mayor." You can see that kind of crap throughout any transcript of any episode. Talk-to-text has got to be one of the most moronic algorithms ever written, second only to autocorrect.

What a stupid story! I hate stories like these! They make having "faith" in nonsense a good thing. To keep holding back humanity by perpetuating distrust in science in general and modern medicine in particular. Even some so called "doctors". They make silly superstitious people feel good about being silly and superstitious.
But, with that said, thanks to MTR! While I didn't enjoy this story, I have and no doubt will enjoy the many others you've uploaded!

@Chrystle Ayer I have full confidence in my primary provider, my cardiologist, my gastroenterologist, both of my surgeons and all of the nurses and pharmacists I've encountered over the decades AND I thoroughly enjoy stories like this one. I see no problem at all in writing fantasy and/or reading/listening to it.
This Elspeth Eric story in particular is merely an extension of the well-known fact that people sometimes do have very good intuitions about physical disorders, and the equally well-known fact that recovery from illness can depend in part on psychological/attitudinal factors. Many of the highly effective (and often expensive) pharmaceutical "miracles" we rely on are extracted from, or are synthetic simulations of, herbs and plants that primitive societies have used for centuries - especially in the Amazon.
It's 8 years since you posted. I hope you've revisited this story in the interim; if not, I hope you will soon and that you'll do so with an open mind.

one of the worst.. and that ending seemed like the writer just said "fuck it" and ended it. and don't even get me started in faith healing... should of been the devil disguised as an old man and cursed people with the curses first appearing to be cure. and Bertha didn't even give a shit her husband had just tried to strangle her father who was just a "very old man"
