Carbon 14 doesn't just date marine life, it's inside of all of us as well. The closer in age you are to when the bombs were donated (or if you were already alive then) the more will be present. That's how they use it to date many things.
This is worded in a misleading way. Carbon 14 is produced natural in atmosphere and that's where the vast majority of carbon 14 comes from. Mid century nuclear testing is not why we can carbon date things.

Whales are magnificent creatures. I felt a bit sad when you said that the radioactive substances were dissolved in their bodies. Is it harmful for them? I don't know much and since its fatal for people i dont think it would do any good for marine creatures.
Not a biologist of physicist so take this with a heap of salt, but: Carbon-14 has long been used for carbon dating /old stuff/ (think fossils and whatever), so it's naturally in nature. Also it has a fairly long half life so doesn't emit a ton of radiation when in small quantities. Granted these nuclear explosions have made the quantities a lot higher, as per the video, but if it were really a big problem I think humans would have suffered more by now. Nuclear explosions have a lot of horrible effects but have never heard carbon-14 related health issues as one of them
Nah, radioactive isotopes are all over the place in nature. Rocks, plants, the air, animals, all contain "impurities" of certain quantities that are radioactive. Plus, Carbon is so far down the hierarchy of heavy elements, that its decay is barely noticeable. Did you know that the banana is the most radioactive fruit? Yet, I know no one, who suffered from radiation sickness due to eating too many bananas.

I used to date a whale shark in the 70’s. She was huge! She said she was 23, which was a few years older than me. I never checked the lines on her back. You mean she could have been really old? Always swam with her mouth open. I thought it was cool.

They were tested well before 55. The first actual bombs got used in 45, they tested before this
they didnt say they started testing nuclear bombs in 1955 they said they started atmospheric testing at that time, to be 100% correct they could have specified that these were the ones large enough to significantly increase carbon 14 levels

It's straight up misinformation. Nukes were being tested 10 years prior.
Whales are magnificent creatures. I felt a bit sad when you said that the radioactive substances were dissolved in their bodies. Is it harmful for them? I don't know much and since its fatal for people i dont think it would do any good for marine creatures.

Not a biologist of physicist so take this with a heap of salt, but:
Carbon-14 has long been used for carbon dating /old stuff/ (think fossils and whatever), so it's naturally in nature. Also it has a fairly long half life so doesn't emit a ton of radiation when in small quantities.
Granted these nuclear explosions have made the quantities a lot higher, as per the video, but if it were really a big problem I think humans would have suffered more by now.

Nah, radioactive isotopes are all over the place in nature. Rocks, plants, the air, animals, all contain "impurities" of certain quantities that are radioactive. Plus, Carbon is so far down the hierarchy of heavy elements, that its decay is barely noticeable.
Did you know that the banana is the most radioactive fruit? Yet, I know no one, who suffered from radiation sickness due to eating too many bananas.
The FDA says it's safe.
