New subscriber from Florida. Thanks for breaking all the stupid golf myths like flat left wrist and holding lag. Golf is a fast dynamic motion not a series of positions.
Marcus, you are great. When I heard you played hockey, you were even better. Then you referenced Dunaway and Austin. You are the best. As a Canuck, who played hockey at a high level...of course I play golf AND use my wrists! Tgey accouht for 70% of the speed in one's golfswing. Keep it up my friend and thankyou!
Brilliant again Marcus . Best coach by far . Just wanted to add , after your constant information about hand speed . So true look at fitzy winning the US open . Lightning quick hand speed 👊
Glad your not afraid to point out the mistakes made by other golf coaches, sure it is much harder to use the wrists, timing needs to be very good, but that’s why we practice
35 years ago we never worried about our wrists at the top of the swing. Then golf magazines started with lessons promoting the flat wrist. It was uncomfortable and counterintuitive to every other “ball” (or puck) sport.
Brilliant I could never use that swing thought it always handcuffed my swing. I’ve always been above average hitter now I know why, I always finished with an extended left wrist. 😊thanks. So logical! Keep it alive!
Marcus I have been watching & absorbing your videos & knowledge of the Golf swing now for only a few weeks. Without any practise whatsoever I yesterday played a competition round focusing especially on your hand path & release technique with a slightly open set up. Under very tough windy conditions (is mid winter here in Australia but we still golf here 365days/yr a very lucky golf country) I played my best golf in a very long time simply by applying the exact wrist action that you have shown in this video & earlier ones. I had previously for many years been doing the exact opposite trying to achieve the flat wrist impact which I now realise is actually a 'no release' action. My ball striking & length & accuracy was a huge enlightenment for me. My only 2xpoor shots were using a 3xwood off the fairway which I duffed hitting the turf slightly short behind the ball. I think this occurs when I stay a bit rearward on my back leg for too long in the shot but am not entirely sure. I find this shot can happen a few times in my round & would like to know your thoughts on how I may eliminate this error from my game. Your videos are just fantastic & are truely bringing joy & confidence back to my game as I can now trust both my intention & swing again.
I just watched a video where a guy was teaching that flat wrist. I only ended up watching it because I have problems scooping the ball, but like you say you're gonna lose a lot of power and distance. And it looks and feels kind of robotic.
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad Thanks for the tip Marcus. I was thinking maybe that flat hand instruction started when they saw Tiger punching his long irons off the tee.
Hi Marcus. Thank you for your great videos and being so responsive to all questions asked. I’ve noticed with your downswing that when beginning the release of the trail arm you appear to use your trail shoulder (left shoulder for you) as the fulcrum point where that arm release begins. Am I seeing this correctly?
Hi. I use it as the hub for my swing. I don't swing around my neck like most think. I'm not sure if I remember how a fulcrum point works but it's not the same thing. We need a counter weight for that and don't have that in my shoulder.
I know you are an amazing golfer and you use blades. Did you start out that way? Do you recommend using players (blades) irons to play or practice with to get better in the long run? I am a 15 handicap and I currently use hollow body irons but I was thinking switching to blades would help improve my game after an adjustment period.
My first club was a normal 7-iron and then I asked the Pro on the beginner class what the hardest club was to hit. He siad that a 1-iron was the hardest to hit so I got myself a blade 1-iron to practice with. I think we should find things and drills that are really hard in practice. I like to instantly feel if I do it right or wrong. I think most golfer just try to find the easiest both in practice and on the course. It's just my philosophy 🤔
Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons is where lag, flat wrist came from. Obviously Hogan was great but as a new 30 year old golfer who could kill a baseball, it screwed me up for 29 years until Marcus came along. No lie - read it. But don’t try to do it !!!!
also The Golfing Machine by Homer Kelly, a bible for Mac O'Grady and MORAD, and countless other very competent instructors - the flat left wrist was described as the "impact imperative" in TGM - one of the first instructors who made it clear, to me at least, that the lead wrist ought be supple and easily go into, be going into, extension, just after impact was a guy named Joseph Mayo - his explanation (in videos with Grant Waite) helped me a lot - Sam Snead also said one's wrists should feel "oily" in a golf swing goes back 80 years now! But, teaching or learning wrist "conditions" is one of the more difficult aspects of sharing golf technique and knowledge.
That's the good part of golf, keep what you find that works. I do a little of both but mostly I let it cup in the back swing. It's not gonna be a negative move.
I always hit the inside of the ball and what dictates my distance to the ball is balance. Watch this: th-cam.com/video/K3OzP_k3gDo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=AIWps9RUBLHMbnBJ
I have a humble question: are you keeping the club face square at all times, or are you suggesting that pronation/supination is ok on the back and downswing?
I'm not keeping anything straight but learning to feel rolling wrist and not makes it easy to do the thinks I should and not the things I shouldn't. I think doing right and wrong is the key to face control. I start everyday with a few hooks and slices to calibrate my brain to hit the straight shot.
would keeping the lead wrist too flat cause golf elbow? I have bad golf elbow and dont' know why. My pro saids its because I am not letting the toe to point to the sky on the forward swing. and I can't seem to stop doing that.

Hi Marcus, I have been practicing you driver technique on the range and today I tried it out on the golf course. A bit of a disaster because I just haven't practiced enough. I know other subs have asked but can we have a super slow motion video from different angles if possible. I am going to master this swing even if it kills me.
@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad I keep topplng the ball on the course but at the range I have hit my first 300 yard drive. I think it would be good for me to practice in slow motion and then speed as I improve.
Thank you Marcus. Are you still trying to time flat lead wrist at impact even though you are using your wrists? If so, how do you ensure that you are getting to impact with flat lead wrist/timing?
I am not thinking more then I try to get back to how I started. If you hit from the ground most of the wrist action happens after impact but when you hit up on a ball more should happen before impact.
