I've just came back from holidays to Italy where we got such Audi Q5 for over 3 weeks. We did more than 5K kms --- highways, backroads, small country roads and (sic!) small towns. This car was awesome. Lovely to drive and even with 5174 km done, we did not have enough of it. Very comfortable and easy to drive. I really liked that. GPS was great, however "learning about my driving habits" (forcing it sometimes to secondary road) caused that I was getting random (side roads) usually every morning through very narrow streets (which wasn't ideal). I learned later to avoid suggestions for the 1st 30 min and then it was fine - stuck to the main roads. Dynamic system was great for the mountains and highway, Comfort mode was fantastic for cities. Absolutely loved it. We had a lot of luggage and (only now I noticed that) I did not think to move the back seats... That would help a lot with that extra few cms. I was surprised it did not heave rear view camera (or I did not find it), but parking sensors were very good. Anti-collision alert was triggered few times when random car appeared in front - this worked quite well. I loved the speed control which was adjusting the speed accordingly to the car in front of me and if the road was clear, it came back to the programmed speed. What I was missing there: some space for sunglasses, keyless door opening, parking cameras and sunroof would have been nice, haha. Would I buy this car after 3 weeks driving? Hell yeah! (I just can't afford it, hahaha). I loved the car and I think it was great choice.

The settlement isn't enough to replace this vehicle, wondering if i should just pay out of pocket and get another q5.
Actually the lid in the trunk is very good for not having the luggages etc. rolling out if on downhill. With flat edge, this is worse or a risk, and actually the little hump helps to lift stuff out of the trunk. However, great review - thanks!
Mat Watson is my favorite online car critic. I enjoy watching his reviews, even when I don't always agree with them. But for those who have the money, I think the Audi Q5 is a smart and worthy purchase. Look forward to seeing you review the 2017 Mazda CX-5, which feel very Audi-like these days.

I have a 2018 2.0 TDI S-Line. Great car but has one major fault - stand at the rear of the car and you will see that the right hand side is approx 10 mm lower than the left side. My car is not the only one with this problem - all Q5's seem to have it. I have complained to Audi hoping that the problem will be escalated to Germany - but so far I have had no feedback.
I am ready to buy an Audi Q5. I have seen them on the road and I like them allot. When was the last remodel by Audi of the Q5? When is the next remodel? What is the cycle of when they change the body style of the Q5, ever 5 years, 7, etc? Thank you!
The old model was very appealing in its design. This one is just another box on wheels - but its the best designed of their current SUV range so that good.
Mat - if the rear light clusters are now completely within the boot lid, if you have the boot open, doesn't it make the car harder to see from behind in low light? I *hope* I've missed a trick here.
Stephan Dolby on the last Q5 there were lights on the edge of the boot where they would be if it was closed but there aren't any on this new model because I thought the same.
You didn't mention that if you have a can of zesty drink in the centre. The phone / wireless charging slider HAS to stay under the arm rest other wise it catches them underneath and gets stuck
Hi matt ! You´ve compared the audi´s driving experience to the BMW X5. Isn´t the BMW X3 the pendant to the Audi Q5?. I´d like to know how big of a difference there is ;)
My only complaint about my Q5 is related to Dieselgate - they didn't particularly advertise the fact that you HAVE to keep the tank topped up with ADBlue in order to drive - not a huge deal in the grand scheme, however, since Dieselgate their "fix" appears to be "make the Q5 drink lots more ADBlue" to fix the emissions. It's annoying, but, the car itself is a lovely, comfortable drive.
Hill start assist is a £75 option. That's outrageous! Even the £5995 Dacia Sandero Access (the UK's CHEAPEST NEW CAR) comes with Hill start assist as standard!
I see many comments talking about the F Pace. However in my country you can buy a fully loaded Q5 for around 46,000 USD, but you need to spend almost 67,000 USD for a F Pace. So there is no comparison. If I'm going to spend that amount of money, I'd buy a Porsche Macan GTS.

The complaint on the back windows and the sunglass holder seems too silly for me... I bet that is the same in many other cars!
I have the x4 and the ESC brakes so much in the corners the brakes heat up very quickly, even in the dsc mode though I have the M performance brakes. I wonder how this behaves.
Mat, why do you say there is a little ridge in the trunk as a negative thing? Have you been grocery shopping? Do you know what happens when you do not have the ridge and you open your trunk? Some groceries will fall out! That's why the ridge is a good thing to have inside of any trunk.

I don't get why Matt keeps getting 'disappointed' with cars' actual fuel consumption compared with the official numbers. These are NEDC numbers. Real world efficiency is rather consistently about 60-70% of NEDC for all engine types (and also for electric vehicle range). You'd think a veteran car journalist would get that at some point. The problem is not in the cars but in the archaic NEDC standard which badly needs replacing.
I'm sure he knows that, I think he's more stating it so potential buyers don't just believe what they read on the manufactures website and can see for there own eyes what it's actually doing

Yes - we had to double check with Audi UK when it was announced. But it will be - the engine from the S5/S4. Should be a laugh..
