Man, I'd love to see a transcription of Nat's solo here. His rhythmic creativity and note choice were amazing. Every idea makes sense and is executed perfectly. No filler, all killer.
Loved this man's musicianship, cried when I heard he'd died. He'd been urged to have his cancer treated, but felt it more important, at the time, to be there for his audience!
Wow! A real joy to hear Nat sing his great hit and a special treat to watch him play as well. He was an awesome musician and his band was top notch as well.
Truly the best - class, mega talent, wonderful personality backed with a cool smooth confidence without any arrogance whatsoever- they broke the mold when they made Mr. Cole.
Thanks Dad for hipping me to this and other great music back in the '50s and '60s...man I'm happy I knew how cool Mom and you always were! God bless you all...Fred too! See ya again someday...God willing, not too soon though. ; )
This song brings to me such pleasant remembrances of my childhood and those good times my Father, Mother and Sister shared together. Fantastic! Jorge Mario Rodas.
We rode that good ol' highway right down the places he mentions, from Gallup,NM to Amarillo TX and back to Barstow AZ. And no one--no one does this song like Nat.
I TOTALLY AGREE ! THE VERY BEST ! I love his record version the very best ! But,this one is pretty awesome as well ! My all time #1 oldies / rock'nroll number ! The writers were genius !!!👍
Artists from the Rolling Stones to Manhattan Transfer all covered Route 66, and all did a great job with it. But suffice to say that ALL of them would graciously concede to the King Cole Trio for getting the job done better than anyone. This is how it's done, folks.
Epic cover! Written by the great Bobby Troup...Mr. Troup was married to the beautiful actress and singer Julie London...Both later starred for 6 seasons on the prime time television show, 'Emergency'....
Just wanted to say this and I’ll leave it alone…I was in fact raised by my grandparents in the south’ I was thought to Love God and country’ be respectful of my elders’ Police officers’ and those who have authority over me’ not to lie or steal’ work hard not to be rude or lazy’ Pray for and love everyone’ be respectful and kind to the elderly’ turn off the Television and open up some books..didn’t understand at the time why they were so hard on me..but wow! I am ever so grateful for everything they taught me and how it’s taken me places in my life that money or education couldn’t. I love you grandma and grand daddy.
Very cool. I remember him being popular when I was a kid. High Quality popular music. What has happened to the culture with the trash that passes for pop music these days. Superbowl halftimes come to mind. :/
Hi there! This is a fantastic video of Nat doing this song. Wow! Where do I get my hands on any DVD with this footage on it? Do you know where you found yours? I would really like to own this.
September - October 1950 is the correct date. Nat „King” Cole (piano, vocal), Irving Ashby (electric guitar), Joe Comfort (bass), Jack Costanzo (conga drum)
No in fact he was not one of the folks I was thinking about. I like folks who also want a secured border’ low crime rates’ good paying jobs for the people’ and less government controlling people and businesses.
This is called Q....and they have the nerve to call Miles cool. King Cole , better musician ( his jazz NOT pop built Capitol records), better singer( obviously) better dresser , better style and better looking. No contest. The main man: NAT KING COLE!!!!!
Nat King Cole is an inspiration to all vocalists and his piano playing is an example of tastefulness.
Man, I'd love to see a transcription of Nat's solo here.
His rhythmic creativity and note choice were amazing. Every idea makes sense and is executed perfectly. No filler, all killer.
Untouchable, matchless peerless and that is his playing, his voice is sensational
Class act, the white suits, wow, so cool. Stride piano rocks Great guitar & base too.
Jazz meets R&B in a swing & shuffle kinda way.
Terrific playing with a light touch.
Actually traveled this highway when I was little from New Jersey to California
Great pianist great vocalist thank you

How I so Wish that I could Play Piano like Mr. Nat King Cole...
I don't think anybody can play the piano like Nat King Cole.
Great song, great players! Nice to see those Altec 21B microphones, too.
These were the true legends of their time. Today, all we got are legends in their own minds.
Supersmooth and a top pianist.
So sweet!
Creation of a timeless sensibility. Every time I hear it, my emotions fluctuate and I know the importance of proper ethics.

classy guys. real talent.
We rode that good ol' highway right down the places he mentions, from Gallup,NM to Amarillo TX and back to Barstow AZ. And no one--no one does this song like Nat.
Bernell Editorial Services Chuck berry did a pretty good version
I was going to say the same thing. Chuck berry did a great version of this song. Unless you don't know who chuck berry is...
I TOTALLY AGREE ! THE VERY BEST ! I love his record version the very best ! But,this one is pretty awesome as well ! My all time #1 oldies / rock'nroll number ! The writers were genius !!!👍
Barstow is in California.
Nat King Cole, grande pianista de jazz e maravilhoso cantor de baladas.
A talent that will not be duplicated.
Artists from the Rolling Stones to Manhattan Transfer all covered Route 66, and all did a great job with it. But suffice to say that ALL of them would graciously concede to the King Cole Trio for getting the job done better than anyone. This is how it's done, folks.
What about Chuck berry? Did he cover route 66 history dude¿¿¿¿¿

Excellent!
Reminds me of the 1950s when I was a child. My Aunts and Uncles played Nat's music a lot.

The King!
Saludos
Has anyone noticed that he's NOT looking at the piano keyboard while he's singing? THAT is hard to do!
Yeah, Ray Charles could have done it blindfolded! (most real piano players are not playing by sight...
Awesome! :o

As my Dad used to say "King Cole is tickling the ivory & he can't do beat!
They were originally known as the King Cole Trio and it looks like they added a conga player for this soundie.
Nat did this several times.....to keep it moving. Check out his smokin' album After Midnight!
Produced and originally syndicated in 1952.
Barry I. Grauman earlier
September - October 1950 is the correct date. Nat „King” Cole (piano, vocal), Irving Ashby (electric guitar), Joe Comfort (bass), Jack Costanzo (conga drum)
This is a reissue, as the the original release was credited as a "Snader TeleScription". By 1952, Studio Films had acquired the Snader library.
Ray Charles said Nat was the best jazz pianist and singer

Brb my daughter saw this today in mrs. Fetch class 4th grade welp she watch this lol
I know this might be wrong....but God there are 13 folks we have to offer in exchange for you to give us back Mr. Nat King Cole...Just a thought
one of them is Trump, i take it?
No in fact he was not one of the folks I was thinking about. I like folks who also want a secured border’ low crime rates’ good paying jobs for the people’ and less government controlling people and businesses.
1:18 En route sixty sept?! Oh I see!
@Dubstep197 Say Dubstep197. Nat has a much more jazz feel while Chuck Berry is pretty much full out rock.
0:29 Uncle we're on route 666! So 'motor West' as fast as ya can! We're in trouble!
Humans playing instruments to the best of their abilities; what a concept; this is the real deal

Oscar Moore!!!!!!!
I think it’s Irving Ashby, playing a Stromberg. Check google images, you’ll see the likeness.
This is called Q....and they have the nerve to call Miles cool. King Cole , better musician ( his jazz NOT pop built Capitol records), better singer( obviously) better dresser , better style and better looking.
No contest. The main man:
NAT KING COLE!!!!!
Who are the other musicians?
ummm, there's no audio? and I'm the only one complaining? and everything else seems to be working just fine? twilight zone, pike, twilight...
Other trios might have been as good, but none was better or could do more.
@Dubstep197 Are you crazy?!?
