A new game starts with two new contestants in the second half of this interesting early look at the classic slot machine show. DISCLAIMER: Nothing you see here is my property.
I recognize Debbie from Password in 1967 when she was involved in its Tournament of Champions with Carol Burnett and Peter Lawford, God rest his soul. The funniest moment was when in the Lightning Round, a light bulb blew out, and Peter said, "Dr. Reason A. Goodwin just shot himself!" and then Debbie put her hands in the air as she was being held up.
The one cool thing to note here is who directed this colorized pilot verison of the joker's wild. A Mr.marty Pasetta who if you don't know created one of the most famous gameshows around Catch phrase. :)
The joker's wild started as a an experimental-pilot in 1968 & 1969 before landing on cbs from 1972 to 1975 it was the 1977-1986 syndicated joker's-wild that made jack-barry & dan-enright millionaires.
While Barry still had some kinks to work out after this pilot, I would definitely prefer this one over the 1968 pilot because that one had celebrities asking the questions. I never understood the purpose of that.
Allen Ludden (RIP) was too busy hosting the revival of "Password" for ABC at the time. Jack Barry (RIP) was given the green light to host "TJW" after other candidates including Wink Martindale, Tom Kennedy, Bob Barker, Dennis James (RIP), and Ludden were already offered hosting other game shows.
Jack Barry was blacklisted following the quiz show scandals of the 50s. The networks originally turned down the pilot because of Barry's past reputation. He retooled the pilots before trying it out on KTLA; it was the final version of the pilot on KTLA that CBS finally picked it up. Barry's comeback is considered the greatest in game show history.
Debbie Brown???!!! I've seen HER on a PASSWORD episode (also with Allen Ludden) where her play partner was Peter Lawford, and during the "Lightning Round", a light bulb blew unexpectedly and then Peter shouts "Dr. Reason A. Goodwin just shot himself!!!" and Debbie Brown was having herself a good laugh with everyone albeit a nervous one, I'll bet. BTW. Dr. Reason A. Goodwin was the word authority on the original PASSWORD. And Debbie Brown made one good Allen Ludden game show contestant!! Oh yes, here is the 1967 episode of PASSWORD that she appeared on of which I've spoken-- th-cam.com/video/oH5pzOEKgdA/w-d-xo.html .

Alan...scaring the shit out of contestants with his "right!" and Yes!". Too funny

This format for The Joker's Wild wouldn't have lasted had the show been sold to CBS in 1972. I'm glad by then the format changed for the better.
I can't believe the stewardess missed the travel questions.
Dumb Dora is SOOOOO dumb...
Must have been a change somewhere. Y passport is good for 10 years

Justin Edgerton is the only name in the credits here that was one of the familiar names from B&E's later years.
Does the host not realize he has a microphone?

Allen-ludden mr. betty-white 1969.
The sound the wheels made on this one would be perfect for any 21st century revival.
"This is Allen Ludden saying..." no password of the day.
It was actually January 1969 (check the first part, there's a slate at the start of that clip).
This game was tougher with these rules than in the classic one.
The blonde lady has a beautiful Southern accent. God bless her if she’s dead. Ageless analog synthesizers.
The "times up" buzzer would later resurface( in amplified form) on the actual show when it went to syndication
It resurfaced in Snoop's version too.
Howlong did Allan Luden host the show before Jack Barry took over and why did Allan leave the show ?
well this was a goodson production and Barry was still radioactive after the scandals
Connar Cowan Nowhere do the credits mention Godoson-Todman; in fact, they turned down Joker's Wild when Barry did work for them.

@jokerswildfan1972 Yeah, I'm just glad that CBS didn't even balk at having Jack Barry's name on the closing credits.
The scoring system on this was good...that is, if this were Password.
I wonder why it took 3 more years before it finally aired on a regular basis?
Feelings were still raw from the Game Show Scandals of the 50s. Plus the networks didn't trust Jack Barry, or Dan Enright yet.
@@newstarcadefan Enright wasn't involved in this show until around a year or two after it premiered.

Awful...
I think Jack Barr was better than Allen Ludden for his show. Tis si a ghreat find nonetheless.
Ludden's Japanese pronunciation is good! Scoring is weird.
