Started watching your vlogs randomly and it is my favourite channel on TH-cam. I like the name also "India in Motion". Thank you for sharing all useful information and documentary which we cannot find on Netflix or any other online streaming applications.

Hey Saravana, couple of quick suggestions -
    1. While the warm indoor vibe goes with your personality, but turn up the exposure just a bit more. It's too dark imho.
    2. For people on the fence and thinking / wanting to do solo hiking, the mental barrier is bigger than the actual logistics, gear and technical stuff.
That mental barrier is mostly because of the fear of the unknown - wild animals, robbery, lack of water and food availability, breaking a law, etc.
Most people living in the cities and towns are surrounded by these experiences which has a direct impact on their world view.
Putting those fears and doubts to rest by talking about your experiences should help people move from just dreaming to actually doing.
Right now, they are living their "dream life" through your videos. Empowering them with the right mindset, expectations and resources can be the greatest gift you can give to those who follow you and the outdoor community in general.
Let me know if that makes sense. :)
    Edited for paragraphs.

Sir i am chiranjeev Sharma (20yrs) from jabalpur (m.p.) i am a student of law from National law university, jabalpur
I have been following your TH-cam channel for a very long time
I shall give you the credit to teach me that inner peace can only be attained by going into the lap of nature.
And it is you because of whom i am able to gather some courage to go on solo trips to the complete wilderness
your videos are way more helpful for us than the agency guided tours which is completely commercialized
Though being a student i am not able to go on trips regularly but, whenever i feel like going to nature, i simply do a 15-20 km to the surrounding woods of my city
I look forward to go to madhmaheswar (32km roundtrip trek in uttrakhand) for week long camping trip for which I also have been saving money for sleeping bag and a tent from my pocket money and also by doing a small part time internship
Recently i watched your video on tent giveaway, i would be really obliged i am be the chosen one,
It would be more than a blessing for me to use the tent, which is used by one of my idol.
I remember watching your ladakh snowfall video 3yr ago from my suggestion, and my instantaneous reaction was like "yrrrrrrr kina awesome hai yeh banda" kash me bhi ese jaa pata"
Although i had realized at a very young age that nature attracts me more than any other thing in this world.
Going to amarnath at the age of 6 was may be the first time me witnessing beauty of mountains and that way the point which made me realize my love to trees, river mountain etc.
I love sitting in the banks of Narmada and listening to the sound water for hours,
A also feel the tent giveaway would help to life that life that you promote.
Even if it is not me, still I'll be your fan alway.
Apart from tent I will still feel blessed to have a reply from you .
    Yours lovingly
    -Chiranjeev Sharma

In addition to enlightening us about various hiking equipment and apparel, do and don'ts while hiking in different elevations and different seasons, I request you to Please also narrate some interesting experiences/stories from your trips in the mountains along with stills or footage of the same.
I don't want to compare but if I have to, I have found you much above the one's most talked about in view of the constraints we face.

The bivy is claustrophobic only during bad weather. Otherwise it is actually more liberating as it makes you spend as much time outside as possible before turning in for the night. I lose that with my other more 'comfortable' tents.
Yes, I plan on narrating some travel experiences during this lockdown. Not sure how interesting they will be but I will try a couple and see how it goes. Your last point is very interesting. I don't want to do India in Motion merchandise, but I was just talking with my friend about how it will be a good idea to handpick some speciality hiking gear from the the likes of AliExpress test it and sell it here. But it will take focus away from my main goal which is filmmaking, so I don't think I will do it.

Hello sir. Great respect for your outlook and spirit of exploration. You have a calm and serene voice which reverbates with the mighty Himalayas. Do not mean to deride anyone, but you are the only Indian with free spirit that is often associated with the westerns. More importantly you are on personal quest, the great glimpses we get to see is just the byproduct of it. Don't leave that goal for the cacophony of daily mundane life. The clarity of vision and preservance you have is that of a monk. Even the sound silence is golden in your videos. Hope to bump into you someday in Himalayas. Happy travels and happy Life.
I too travel Solo. Been to Kinner Kailash and many treks in Great Himalayan National Park alone. Go to GHNP, it does have some great trails. I don't have active Instagram account or any social account but can upload photos of my travels if that would work. Currently have quechua -3 degree celcius tent, having a -18 would be great.. Would I actually be able to experience remoteness like you is hard to say :) Would love to overcome fear and self doubt like you.

Great video showing the differences. For the pyramid tent, having an adjustable height centre pole should go a long way to solve the dust problem. In those situations, make the pole height lower, so the edges of the tent sit closer to the ground. 👍

Your pitch locations and weather look very demanding on the equipment you use. I think manufacturers should be paying attention to your opinions and experience of their items as few people I've seen push the limits like you have. Well done and keep it up.

Always enjoy your videos, offering sensible and practical advice without hype. I looked at an ultralight tent for solo camping but I was put off by the fact they're usually listed as water 'resistant' not 'proof'. I hadn't considered the issue of dust and sand, which gives me another reason to think twice about having one. I too have camped in Ladakh and Spiti, so very familiar with the terrain.
As I'm based in the UK I'll not be putting myself forward for the bivvy, but will check it out. I could see me going for all three ultimately, each has their good points. The killer is always keeping the weight down!

I did not mention it in the video, but the ultralight tent I use is made from a fabric called Dyneema/Cuben Fiber. It is just about the most waterproof material you can find. The material is very light weight, 100% waterproof. Very strong tear strength as well, but the gotcha is their abrasion resistance which is quite poor compared to nylon.

I am also using a Pyramid tent (Mini Peak II) . Have you tried using a trekking pole for setup? The advantage is that trekking poles are adjustable in their height, so you can pitch the tent lower in windy environments, so the sides are basically on the ground and not leaving that much space for dust to come through.

    • @indiainmotion
      @indiainmotion  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I don't use trekking poles while hiking. I carry a tripod that does double duty, both as a pole for balance in uneven terrain and for filming myself while hiking.
I carry a separate pole for holding up my tent. It can be raised by another 6 to 7 inches if needed. The only issue is that the starting length itself is a bit too long. Ideally I should have ordered it some 3 to 4 inches shorter, that way I would have had the option to pitch it close to the ground when needed.
