  • Tina Nguyen was drawn to the conservative movement as a college student. But, after internships and jobs that centered around right-wing talking points, she left that world behind. Nguyen is a journalist at Puck and details her political journey in her new book "The MAGA Diaries." She speaks with Hari Sreenivasan.

Interesting to learn about the college pipeline. I visited CMC when I was that age and couldn't believe how much money was funding that place. The donors surely make it a priority to keep that tap open.
Also struck by how close her description of the conservative social network is to a modern Christian one... as in, as long as you tow the line you're in, but as soon as you question or have any belief outside the narrow cultural view then you're cut off and booted out. Very insular and intolerant, driven by fear.

Lol, Tina certainly tripped up when she demonized socialism. I'm assuming heir parents fled from Communism and authoritarianism not from Scandinavian and Western European socialism which is very well baked into certain levels of American society - government, academia and the military. Therefore, Republicans have done a good job in poisoning the minds American born children of immigrants. I'm dumbfounded by the notion that a young bright student and 'person of color' on campus could walk by a 'dreamer student' and also a 'person of color' believing they don't belong here and should go back to where they came from. Democrats need to do a better job in messaging because MAGA Repuplicans have had 3 generations of crafting their propaganda craft through regular right-wing media outlets like FOX, televangelists and conservative radio talkers like Rush Limbaugh and the social media propaganda network of influencers who came out of the Breitbart News incubator.
