Hey guys, Warning about ZSNES! It doesn't work on Windows 11 at all because Windows 11 requires 64 bit installation, of which ZSNES is only designed for 32 bit operating systems.
@@SoldierofGod85 the first four steps are not using windows 11 but if I'm being honest BSNES (the project's ressurection) and SNES 9X are far more updated.
Glad you haven't been taken down Fam. I would like to let you know I owe my entire channel to your assistance for emulation for low end hardware. Thank you Fam, you have no idea how much I appreciate your tutorials.
@@ShandellJames You're the best guy for advice, tutorials and opinion about retro games emulator since guy who has slow ass brain like me can understand lol
Surprised BizHawk and Mesen weren't mentioned... probably understandable as they're designed to cater to niche technical hobbies (tool assisted speedruns and hacking/homebrew dev respectively) rather than general game playing... but if you're involved in those interests at all then these emulators have some of the best tools around.
this is a great list but im having issues with retroarch and audio pops and slowdown which in itself is super distracting since i have a top of the line pc with 3070ti should have no stutter or audio pops.
ZSNES should NEVER be recommended! Not only is it NOT hardware accurate, but there is an active way to execute arbitrary code on the host system and install malware through the emulator itself.
I don't think any of this is true. Never had any issues with malware on zsnes, and as long as you download zsnes from the official site and play legitimate snes games on it, you're never going to encounter any malware on it. Every single snes game I tried was perfectly good and playable. After comparing to snes9x, it plays all the same snes games the same way as zsnes. Only difference I found is that zsnes has a better user interface and takes up less space than snes9x, but it had no negative impact on the playing experience of the snes games I threw at it (only positive experiences).
I used snes9x on windows and I was able to key ins controllers no problem. I just downloaded the Mac version and I just realized that the entire “config” tab up at the top is gone. Completely nonexistent. I can load and play the games like butter, but I can’t connect or set up any kind of controller. I can connect a ps4 controller that is somewhat usable if I change the “controls” setting under the “emulation” tab, but I only get directional keys and a start button-it basically turns my controller into a glorified computer mouse. Anyone have any advice?
I've mostly used zsnes (back in the day anyway) It would be nice to have an actual comparison since it's never been clear to me what it means when an emulator has high precision emulation.... I mean....16 bit graphics....how much precision is needed? zsnes always seemed perfect to me. I played tons of games and don't remember any issues (only megaman x2 comes to mind when it wasn't possible to emulate it due to the 3d effect in the intro, but that was later fixed) Other than that everything seemed fine. Can't imagine what the other emulators "emulate" better...
I'm with you. I don't remember if I ever had a problem with zSNES back when Windows XP was the latest Windows OS (can't comment on Megaman x2 because I haven't played it).
I have snes9x and it's not bad. I also have snea9x GX on my Wii U and Wii but one downside is that if you have a rom that isn't a .sfc but a gd3 then it won't work.
I downloaded Higan upon watching this video; by any chance you could do a tutorial on how to use it? Having trouble finding how to add cheat codes for SNES games in Higan version 108. Keep up the good work. Cheers!

Ok i was hoping to see a comparative between mesen-s and bsnes, and while i watched the video and got to 2nd place i tought mesen-s was 1st, but instead was Retro-arch... Retro arch aint an emulator, its a frontend for lot differents emulators, so in order to emulate a snes game in retro-arch you need to use a core, and cores are exactly the emulators you mentioned from 5 to 2, not including mesen-s
I don't know, Retroarch can't find the Chrono Trigger hack Rom in Italian... and some games, out of 19 it can find 13. I used the stable version, but I don't think much has changed from the most updated version.
Retroarch? really. Dont know if the first place is important. If it means its the winner. If it does, well i disagree, but only well on my part in my case. My experience is not as great, like with some cores awful. But its only me. Also i find those overlays distracting i like plain blackness. If emulating SNES... BSNES or SNES9X is the way to go. Both tried and find them cool. Sure might be not the precisest of them all, but both good enough. Also RetroArch is just as good as the cores in it. Without them, it would be only a nice well i think it is a frontend for cores, u can do also nice things i mean the games and all, adding them to categories launching them nicely from one place, yeah, i see the appeal but still. Id likely go with launchbox (bigbox) and standalone emulators. I think. I dont know everyone has their preference. RetroArch is really not mine, at least for now, maybe itll cchange in the future.
I respect your opinion, and to be honest, I use bsnes inside of my launch box. But it's just something about those overlays that make retroarch look cool. Especially if you're recording gameplay, it just looks good on screen.
@@ShandellJames for sure, i can tell, but u know if id play like that id be watching ever so often on that side or the other and me personally get distracted, at least in the beginning if probably in time u get use to it, it wont be as distracting but i dont know i really like the black, but as most ppl i like cool stuff, so experimenting with it, or use it in recording fits fine. In video it looks cool must admit, better then black bars :).
