Hey Charlie great work, I love your videos but as an Ottawa native these aren’t the hoods. This is the uptown / hipster / centre town districts closer to downtown. The real hoods are (especially at night) trappers / south keys / ledbury, pinecrest, heron / baycrest, and vanier. Ottawa sprawls a lot (think Jacksonville) so they’re far and few between, but still active nonetheless.
Some of those areas you named aren't even that hood anymore. Used to live in hblock. Love that neighborhood, especially during the 90s. When you have ledbury and hblock townhomes going for $300 plus. No real gangsters can even get loan for those places. Ottawa is a peaceful place to live. Ritchie and Vanier probably the worst. But it's also nothing compared to Surrey BC

It’s called Overbrook or O.B Eastside. historically it’s one of Ottawa’s oldest project housing communites. Even one of the oldest in North America. Niggas who lived here know it was a crazy area back then. I hope they ain’t gentrify it too much

oh wow youre in my neighborhood brother, I lived there for 3years for work, its definitely a quiet and somewhat boring town, beautiful. but the hoods are pretty quiet compared to US. You should come to Montreal! Id show you areas to view

My dad's a Canadian who went to live in Europe in the late '60's where I was born and raised. When I visited my aunt who lived in one of the '' Saint- villages' around Montreal I thought she had to be very rich, because her house had no direct neighbours, she had a big garden all around her house.. But she was an English teacher with corresponding income. Over here to have that kind of a house you'd have to have high income for sure. Has to do with the amount of space Canada has so the ground isn't (or wasn't at least back then) that expensive. Anyways, am enjoying your videos. Thanks!

In Utah where I live, West Valley City and Ogden are often referred to by the locals as ghetto and crime ridden. Despite that, if Charlie were to drive through those areas almost no one would believe that it’s really that bad. Those areas in most American towns would be somewhere in between decent to ghetto looking.
Been many times as a child since half my family is from Canada. I remember it always being clean and looked- after for the most part. And I remember late 90's when I came back to visit, having not been there for some years, all of the sudden, there was litter and trash where there never was. But I guess this trash- no pride in where you live trend is not exclusive to any place.. People have become more careless all around it seems.

Ottawa has a population of a million and the city had 16 homicides in 2022 that's a homicide rate of around 1.36 per hundred thousand Thunder bay had 15 homicides in 2022 with a population of 148,000 that's a homicide rate of around 9.30 per hundred thousand thats 7x of ottawas homicide rate. Not saying ottawa doesnt have hoods or dangerous areas but compared to other canadian cities its pretty safe.

It's pretty clean up here not gonna lie. These hoods are working class neighborhoods. There is community housing mixed in. There's a lot of transitory poverty in Canada and not a lot of generational.
all hoods in Canada are ghosttowns after 2016. after gentrification basically erased everything. All project housing units get destroyed and niggas get evicted to live in packed huge high rise project buildings. @@liamo7045 The "projects" here are a joke, if somone wants to look for something like the US. They aint gonna find it. "Hood in Canada" and "Hood in the US" are 2 totally different things. The buildings just don't like like shiny new condos. This is why I was glad to see them tearing so many of these old buildings down in Toronto. Ottawa is lightyears below all large US cities in crime too. Does not even show up in crime rankings.

Last week we were in Southampton, England after getting off a cruise and there were some definitely hood parts of the city.
