@@offTheLeftEye Well it was really exciting for me because i realised i have made the journey between a person who thinks he is doing well to a person who thinks he is not doing well. Thank you so much for your amazing work!

All these bind together two minds to make one. No dominance but equality also keeps the fire burning. Great job. Marriage love is one of his best
I am convinced that I will be alone until I get to heaven and I am very ok with that! (Providing I get to heaven!). Thank you for piquing my interest in this book-I wasn’t too eager to read it before.
I know a lot of people can't stand Conjugial Love because it is so old fashioned about gender roles and things like that. But if you can get past that 18th century slant, I think it is one of the most beautiful and hopeful pictures of the Lord's whole creative scheme. The idea that there is a marriage of Love and Wisdom within God Himself, and that this filters down and is made manifest in heaven and earth is absolutely beautiful. The idea that we can be blessed with a love for another human being that reflects the Divine makeup of God Himself is such a blissful idea. I know that the ideal can seem pretty pie in the sky compared to the everyday nitty gritty of relationships here, but to know that is what is promised to us if we try to love God and follow His commands is such a wonderful idea. I like the pie in the sky! It gives me hope when things are rough down here. I just remember the rough stuff is what gets us ready for heaven. No ice melter this week? Well, my answer would be pretty much what Curtis and Dr. Rose said, about working on your own self. Specifically, recently I have been thinking about how pride so sneakily inhabits our hearts and needs to be rooted out. Proverbs 13:10 says all contention comes from pride. There is a Christian preacher named Floyd McClung who has a lot of good thoughts on this subject. He challenges himself whenever he is having some kind of bad feeling or tension with another person to look for where the pride is. I think this is an excellent and useful practice. If I am in conflict with someone, regardless of who is right and who is wrong, I need to look and see "Is my ego being bruised? Am I feeling I deserve something as if my wants are more important? Do I want acknowledgement or admiration? Am I angry because I'm not getting my way? How is pride secretly operating in me that is causing these negative feelings?" It's a great way to keep my mind focused on how I can be a better person in any type of relationship, which will no doubt make the relationship better, too.
The descriptions of marriage that seem off-putting, are not merely results of Swedenborg time. These are accurate descriptions of God's will for marriage. God's will does not conform to modern ideological trends. Its the same forever: congugial love can only happen between man and one woman, and complete chastity is required of us. To simply erase these form messages from the book congujial love is like trying to have your cake and eat it too. God will provide congugial love, but we have responsibilities regarding love that we have to perform for this to happen.
I didn't find the book old-fashioned. Granted it was written in the 1700's, he speaks of an equal role of both, a man and a woman, in a relationship, and the freedom both need to enter the relationship. He also says in his time true marriage love was rare, and my guess is it's still not a common thing today. But God's truth is universal and eternal, though nothing is black and white, that's for sure.
You two make a great team! Enjoyed this video much....actually, this is the third time listening to it. I like how these discussions make me think deeply about my life and how I affect others.
Peering into the void, I see her. Love was apparent, and it had no definition, but it needed not. The journey of the Self is fulfilled through the corresponding diffusion of an attraction that had been known, but like Truth, it became more than an ideal. Orange to my Blue, baby I love you.
I can say that being with your true love and when you are intimate with each other...it is as if you hear angels singing ...so comforting...hehehe..or is it in my mind only ...but i do hear mellow sounds and I so love it...i kept telling it to my husband...he will just laugh but he allows me and support me on it...the more i feel the love of my hubby....

Ice melter thoughts: respect, care and much patience haha. Being in a loving relationship requieres the ego to get some hits. Have just watched this with my wife! It was great to measure our marriage to those qualities Swedenborg sets out. We score well in the second part of the list - absolute trust etc. rather than peace and serenity (though we have our moments)! My wife now wants to know more about this subject and I explained that you'll probably revisit and go further in at some point. During the week she works away and is actually very 'useful' to the community (education). Tomorrow we'll be watching a few of the shorter clips before she returns (her workplace is too far to commute to - but being alone gives me chance to do some serious music study!). Thanks to you both and the Team behind you doing some much work. :)
I'm glad you and your wife enjoyed this topic! That beautiful list of qualities are the ideal heavenly state to aspire to, but no couple should expect to have all that mastered on earth. None of that can come without laying the groundwork of simply learning to work through our issues, both individually and as a couple. Earthly life is just the very beginning of our eternal lives and relationships. As long as there is a desire to go in that direction, we have forever to keep growing closer and deeper! If you are interested, we have two past shows specifically about the topic of marriage love: "Spiritual Marriage" th-cam.com/video/K7Nyz6EvR18/w-d-xo.html "What Married Love Is" th-cam.com/video/_C9CJQlZDD4/w-d-xo.html
From time to time we read about old couple when both spouses die at the same time after 50(or more)years of marriage, peacefully and happy holding hands or hugging each other.Or one dies and other a few hours after. When heard about such pass away, even those who don't believe in the afterlife feel some holy surroundings and have idea of love surpassing a death and continuing to the eternity.
I totally agree with you, Zoran. There is something deeply touching, and something that just makes sense, about true love and its continuation into eternity.

Patience, love of others, accommodating the needs of others, placing yourself second to others are aspects or elements of marriage love. I enjoyed every second of "Marriage Love - Swedenborg & Life." My understanding of what the wrath of God is what happens to evil when it faces what it is not. Evil cannot face truth and goodness. Evil feels tormented to face God, Who is the Opposite of falsity.
I met my soulmate 10 years ago and we broke up because our Earthly desires were incompatible. His dreams were my fears basically. Anyway, our song was a song called Guardian Angel and one of the lyrics was "I'll be there for you through it all, even if saving you sends me to heaven." Due to some childhood trauma, he was a wreck while on Earth and I undoubtedly wouldve followed him down that path had he asked me to. But through his death, he saved me from a life path of dysfunction. I eventually got married and love my Earth husband to bits, but I still know that my ex is my soulmate.
Hi team. The Lord has instructed me to inform you... Not to use the one-liner "According to Swedenborg". It's just simply not correct, nor alleged. They are the " Terms of God" given to Emanuel. This has been shown to me. Kia ora! Also, I've had the the pleasure to welcome likely married couples into the Lords, Celestial heaven. It was very humbling experience for me. And today, I was given another message that suggests I'm the first New Zealander (still alive also) accepted into the celestial heaven . You been advised of this because of the audience you've been attracting. The Lord is very pleased with the entire team. Well done! I'm also a big fan of your social media presence. Thank you again for the wonderful shows. With love to the entire crew... Mark Tane
Thank you, Mark! I'll pass this along to the team. Hopefully, people who spend any amount of time on our channel will come to understand the process by which Swedenborg came to write what he wrote. Sometimes it seems that "according to Swedenborg" is just a shorthand expression, given the context of his whole participatory story. Maybe "Swedenborg was taught" is a good way of saying it. Thanks for being part of our community here!
@@Syn3rgy-DMS-HANZ Oh, no, certainly not trying to impose falsities! I'm sorry to have given that impression. Hi, this is unrelated but do you have a video that goes into depth on Arcana Coelestia 126? (the two trees; that we shouldn't inquire into the mysteries of faith outside Christ)
That's a great question. Here's a passage that describes the angelic mindset: "They live content with what they have, whether it is little or much, because they know that they receive as much as is useful-little if little is good for them and much if much is good for them. They do not know what is best for themselves-only the Lord knows; and in his sight everything he supplies is eternal. So they have no anxiety about the future, but refer to anxiety about the future as "care for the morrow," which they say is pain at losing or not getting things that are not needed for their life's useful activities. " So angels in heaven wouldn't be tuned in to things of the future. That would take them away from being present to the Lord's love directing them and helping them live useful and loving lives. As Angel Shining mentioned, when a loved one crosses over, they would then be present to welcome them into the spiritual world. A beautiful reunion. What do you think?
Each attribute of Truth is given accordingly, and while no one can predict the future without limited context, minds are tuned into the pattern recognition to varying degrees. When someone decides they are going to move their foot forward, and it happens, the connections in the mind that operate this simple maneuver, are far more complex than most would even give thought to.
Hello Friends, It's hard for me to admit it, but I have never had good luck with marriage or any kind of long term relationship in this life. The cards never seem to fall my way. Does this mean I will miss out on this special connection Sweden spoke of in his work. Will God give people like me a chance to find the person I was meant to be with in heaven? When I was young I believed in soulmates. However, the old I get it seem the whole idea is just a fair tale made up to make people feel good. Does swedenborg speak to any of these things? Good show.
Yes! Swedenborg says very clearly that everyone in heaven has the opportunity to form a heavenly marriage, regardless of how things went here on earth. Don't give up hope!
You will receive that which you desire, granted with the cost of its exchange. Love has infinite giving power, and there is no need to worry about using this resource, it amplifies itself with its own reflection. Reciprocated Love radiates in a way that is so alluring due to it's nature to connect. Every being seeks understanding, this is the key. Love is there for you.
The first-draft translations are all done, JL, and we're rolling along on the final editing and note writing. Three new volumes of Secrets of Heaven came out in the last year, and I think we're on track for three more this coming year? Something like that. Besides SH, it's just Revelation Unveiled (traditional title: Apocalypse Revealed) and Marriage Love still to be published. Give us a few more years, and Phase One of the NCE will be complete!
This universe works on a logic/physics that is not easy for a human mind to comprehend. So my answer would be - there is no quality, or the lack of that quality, or presence of an opposite quality, or a lack of that one, that is more important than the other one. Anything can make a combination that may form a loving relationship. And by the term “ loving” again , it is referred to as broad possibilities as the universe itself.
There's a lot of counter-intuitive science coming out from the cutting edge...and a lot of this seems to reflect ancient religious and philosophical thought. :)
I really liked this one, and I love the book! Could you guys please explain the earthly meaning of adultery? I dont quite understand how far it goes. Is thinking about someone outside your marriage or relationship (sexually) considered adultery?
It's like anything else that comes into our minds. We're not responsible for what floats in there, and what we haven't yet noticed. But the goal should be to not actively indulge sexual thoughts about someone other than one's spouse. That does distract away from one's own relationship getting deeper. So, spiritual growth should involve getting better at noticing when those kinds of thoughts float in, and sending them away, just like any other kind of negativity. Like everything else, we start out not being very good at this, but it's good to work on resisting that sort of mental activity, and going toward fidelity of the mind as well as the body. There's a big difference between occasional mistakes and a pattern that is willingly indulged in. The worst is getting to a point where a person would actually commit the physical adultery if he or she could get away with it. A union of minds means nurturing the desire to join with one's own spouse on all levels, and shunning the idea of uniting with anyone else. Does that make sense?
@@offTheLeftEye Thank you, yes it does. Just striving to do good and looking towards heaven instead of hell and not indulging in things that lead away from that or things that could become destructive. Just all part of changing your mindset. Thanks again
I am curious about this: if two people in a monogamous and committed life together but not yet married didn’t have a perfect relationship (often through outside stresses and challenges) but were always wanting to keep working at - if they will be able to do so in heaven. That is they are not perfectly harmonious and aligned here on earth and are unlikely to be in exactly the same place in heaven but certainly the same community. Do they spend time in the world of spirits to decide or in heaven? What about the disconnect from time apart when one has passed and one continues to live do they grow in different directions due to the separation? What do you think?
I'm not sure there's such a thing as a "perfect relationship" in this world, user-qy5. I mean, the happiest marriages I know have gone through some very tough times. Wanting to keep working on it is the key, I think. And though married partners in heaven LOOK like one angel from a distance, they have not completely melded into one person. I mean, they're still the individuals they were created to be. Swedenborg learned that couples who were together on earth ( he speaks in terms of marriage, but "common law" marriage or other long-term commitments might happen the same way) will come together, and it will become clear to them whether or not they are true partners. If not, they move on to find their genuine match. I guess that happens in the world of spirits? Sorry to say I'm not 100% clear on that, but if they're still sorting out which community they belong in, then perhaps it's a WoS event. As for the timing of it all, the spiritual world doesn't operate in days and years like we do, but in states of mind/heart. So perhaps a separation that is many years on earth, is only a short time in changes of state for the partner on the other side. Each partner will continue on their own spiritual path, and if love pulls them together, they'll reunite on the other side. I'm not sure we can understand exactly how it works, since the physical world and the spiritual world operate in different ways, but Swedenborg said that God oversees this pairing-up process very carefully, so I trust that somehow it will all work out for the best! God loves each of us and wants our eternal happiness!
Wrath suggests injustice. That is not the case. The Lord brings perfect balance, between what you did, what you intended and what the Lord does about it. It is all for Good.
Figuratively speaking, if as a newcomer/ rookie to swedenborg books where would you start me. Originally I had began with heaven & hell but then switched to love in marriage. Any advice would be appreciated.
It really depends on the kind of thing you're interested in, 60. "Heaven and Hell" describes the life after death. "Secrets of Heaven" expounds the inner, spiritual meaning of every verse in Genesis and Exodus -- all about our spiritual journey of getting love and truth working together in our life. "Divine Love and Wisdom" is more philosophical, about Creation and God. "Divine Providence" is about how to walk the path of life with God leading us. Those are some of the longer books. A short one that I like for it's brief explanations of many different "doctrinal" points is "New Jerusalem." There are other short ones on teachings about "The Lord" or "Faith" or "Life" or "Sacred Scripture." Here's a little video of Jonathan walking you through some options: "Who Was Swedenborg?" Please i have to know he's my true love and i miss him every day
Yes, absolutely you can be with your husband in heaven! Any mistakes in the past that you have regretted will not matter any more. That forgiveness is real. And it doesn't matter if you are legally married on earth or not, or whether you are with someone else after your husband died. What matters is the deeper connection of the heart. In the afterlife, people can feel who they truly belong with, even if they have had more than one marriage on earth. If you feel that your husband in the afterlife is the one that you most deeply love, then that is who you will be married to in heaven. Dear Dr. Jonathan Rose, If "the oldest angel in heaven is the youngest", then Conjugial Love is as current and fresh as it gets! So why allow the misguided to hide it under a bushel? 1.) The human body has one heart and one set of lungs. Is this not binary, and of order? Can a body function with one set of lungs and three hearts? How about two hearts or two sets of lungs in a body? Is this not anatomically impossible? One heart and one set of lungs CORRESPONDS to marriage love. 2.) How is the perversion of conjugial love a "new paradigm" when these disorders are as old as hell? 3.) Sexual perversions were rampant (and sanctioned) in the Apostle Paul's day. So how did he openly preach against such practices yet managed to grow the church exponentially! Og Mandino named Paul "The greatest salesman in the world". Maybe we can do the same- not by treating true marriage love like a 'hot potato'- but by boldly preaching this new revelation from the Lord God Jesus Christ. Let's stop worrying about who may be offended- that's what hell wants! "For the conjugial union of one man with one wife is the precious jewel of human life and the repository of Christian Religion." ~ C.L. 457
@@offTheLeftEye I appreciate your efforts at inspiring others to read Marriage Love! Especially since there's so many newcomers watching. I get that. And I think you're doing an incredible job! Thanks for passing my message along to Dr. Jonathan Rose.
As I recall, Brian, he says if they are deeply devoted to their celibacy, and live a life of useful service to others, they can dwell on the edges of heaven. Seems to me there are a billion different ways things might turn out for people, and only the Lord knows the inner workings of each heart.
I do honestly wonder what Swedenborg’s view on homosexuality would be, and on those who are and their place in heaven. Because I really want to know if the Swedenborg churches are not only LGBT welcoming, but LGBT affirming? I don’t think I’d join a church that wasn’t so I’m looking but can’t find much. However what I have found really disappointed me. Coming from the New Church, from which I thought would be a loving and accepting community, a rev has said that having homosexual tendencies is ‘hell attacking’. I don’t know what to think anymore, I may be losing my faith.
Great question, TheLachstar. We at OTLE are not affiliated with any particular church, and there are a few different denominations of Swedenborgian churches. They all come down differently on this issue, as far as I understand it. Here are the congregations if you want to check out their websites or reach out directly to their leadership: newchurch.org/ www.thelordsnewchurch.org/ swedenborg.org/ Here is our take on the subject: Swedenborg barely mentions homosexuality at all, which is notable in itself. Jesus, also, did not speak out against homosexuality. Instead, Jesus spoke out against adultery and lust. So, rather than focus on external forms of sex, Jesus pointed to paying attention to how sex is used. Adultery is using sex to betray a commitment to someone. Lust does not mean just sexual desire (which is a good thing as a part of a loving and committed relationship), but instead means using sexual desire for selfish self-gratification, using people instead of loving people. Jesus was constantly working to steer people away from judging things according to outward appearances or circumstances, but instead look at the deeper things, like goals and intentions and motivations. Swedenborg echoes this in his writings. He states that adultery and lust are the things that can lead a person in the direction of hell, because they are selfish and opposed to heavenly love toward others. (Swedenborg listed 4 kinds of hellish lust: the lust to deflower, the lust for variety, the lust of rape, and the lust to seduce innocents.) So again, a focus on how people are *using* sex. He learned that God and heaven are not concerned with people's outer actions, but instead are concerned with their inner motivations and intentions. God is looking at people's hearts and minds, and all that they are dealing with. If a person is doing the best they can, no matter what external and bodily situation they are dealing with, to become more genuinely kind and useful toward others, then they are on a path to heaven. All people are beloved by God, and God is the only one that can know what each person is dealing with in their heart and mind, and help them to sort it all out after death. If you read the stories about how Jesus acted, he always ignored the judgmental nature of society and the religious leaders who were wanting to condemn people for not externally living in a certain way. Instead, Jesus took each person as an individual instead of part of a "category", reached out to people that society considered in the wrong or outcasts, and looked at their hearts in order to see the best and most wise and loving way to help and heal and guide. And he spoke the most criticism toward those who self-righteously condemned others! Swedenborg emphasizes that it is not our place to make spiritual judgments about others, because we cannot know their hearts and minds. People can experience love, inmost friendship, and commitment in many ways. These are the ultimate tenets of marriage, as Swedenborg describes it.

Matthew 22:30 talks about no marriage in heaven. Could that be why there is so much controversy over this topic? It’s easy for me to think about heaven as one big family. This earth life is the time to experience sexual love. We have the chance to experience the creation of a child, form a family, and learn how to develop true love. Getting married in heaven seems like an “ego centered” earth quality to me. Just sayin😀

What a great mental exercise! I am so glad you decided to share that with us :)
Mutual respect.
It's the angelic mindset!

Peering into the void, I see her. Love was apparent, and it had no definition, but it needed not. The journey of the Self is fulfilled through the corresponding diffusion of an attraction that had been known, but like Truth, it became more than an ideal. Orange to my Blue, baby I love you.

Anyway, our song was a song called Guardian Angel and one of the lyrics was "I'll be there for you through it all, even if saving you sends me to heaven."
Due to some childhood trauma, he was a wreck while on Earth and I undoubtedly wouldve followed him down that path had he asked me to. But through his death, he saved me from a life path of dysfunction. I eventually got married and love my Earth husband to bits, but I still know that my ex is my soulmate.

Thank you, Mark! I'll pass this along to the team. Hopefully, people who spend any amount of time on our channel will come to understand the process by which Swedenborg came to write what he wrote. Oh man, did you know we just released a show on that! Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/Hngz_hmZbX4/w-d-xo.html
This is unrelated to this video, but i would like to ask. Do those that are in heaven know when friends and relatives will die?? Thank you.
I don't think so....they have no concept of time and it's issues however they do know when someone is in the dying process And often go comfort them.
That's a great question. Here's a passage that describes the angelic mindset:
"They live content with what they have, whether it is little or much, because they know that they receive as much as is useful-little if little is good for them and much if much is good for them. They do not know what is best for themselves-only the Lord knows; and in his sight everything he supplies is eternal. So they have no anxiety about the future, but refer to anxiety about the future as "care for the morrow," which they say is pain at losing or not getting things that are not needed for their life's useful activities. "
So angels in heaven wouldn't be tuned in to things of the future.

When I was young I believed in soulmates. However, the old I get it seem the whole idea is just a fair tale made up to make people feel good. Does swedenborg speak to any of these things? Good show.

How is the new translation coming along?
I really appreciate your response, Ksenija! Love is our vital core.
There's a lot of counter-intuitive science coming out from the cutting edge...and a lot of this seems to reflect ancient religious and philosophical thought. :)
@@timbragg9684 Agreed!

All good points! Thanks for sharing with us :)
A short one that I like for it's brief explanations of many different "doctrinal" points is "New Jerusalem." There are other short ones on teachings about "The Lord" or "Faith" or "Life" or "Sacred Scripture."

Dear Dr. Jonathan Rose,
If "the oldest angel in heaven is the youngest", then Conjugial Love is as current and fresh as it gets!
"For the conjugial union of one man with one wife is the precious jewel of human life and the repository of Christian Religion."

What did Swedenborg say about the fate of munks and nuns. Didn’t they give vous of celibacy?
Here are the congregations if you want to check out their websites or reach out directly to their leadership:
newchurch.org/
www.thelordsnewchurch.org/
swedenborg.org/
Here is our take on the subject:
Swedenborg barely mentions homosexuality at all, which is notable in itself.
These are the ultimate tenets of marriage, as Swedenborg describes it.
offTheLeftEye - Thanks so much for replying, I was in a really bad state of mind. Sorry if it came off as harsh. I have read some blog posts on it by Lee Woofenden, which has explained to me the sides of the ‘debate’ and I have come to rest on the more liberal side. Thank you so, so much for explaining this, I really did think in that hellish state I would have to leave this altogether, but I understand now.
@@thelachstar4294 would you mind sharing those posts with me, if convenient? I would love to read them!
And I actually don't think you were being harsh at all - I think you were being honest about what works for you, and I totally respect that. It's vital we stand up for our beliefs, and we need to find the organizations, institutions, or communities that serve us and reflect the love we seek for ourselves and others!
I hear you, and I applaud your efforts to seek spiritual community that aligns with your sense of love and justice.
offTheLeftEye - Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity, it really does mean a lot to me. Here is a blog by Lee on Homosexuality and the Bible - leewoof.org/2015/02/06/homosexuality-the-bible-and-christianity/ - and here is his blog on Swedenborg and homosexuality - leewoof.org/2015/02/06/what-does-emanuel-swedenborg-say-about-homosexuality/ - I found them both unbiased and informative to read
@@thelachstar4294 Thank you! God bless!
Just sayin😀
Yes, Tonya! I believe we talk about that passage in this short clip: "Why Does Jesus Say There's No Marriage in Heaven?" th-cam.com/video/Nfy6JNC4BwQ/w-d-xo.html
And I agree, those are wonderful, life giving and expansive experiences we can have on earth! Swedenborg was adamant that a marriage of soul mates in the afterlife was a foundational part of our spiritual lives. If you're interested in his take on this, check our episode, "Will We Be Married in Heaven? Yes." th-cam.com/video/GZ2zs94piDM/w-d-xo.html
