    Great video and I agree with all of the things that you have said. Two weeks ago we were away in Wales and cooked on the Cobb every evening. Last Weekend I cooked a massive piece of prime rib on the bone using the extension ring. I used heat beads on that occasion. So meat was so full of flavour. I have just bought some cobblestones and I am going to cook a chicken tomorrow using the rack. Jacket potatoes done in the moat (in foil) are out of this world. I see that you also have videos on the instant pot. Another favourite in our house. I recently made a batch of marmalade! Thanks again.

    I got mine about 3 years ago and I love it. I can cook a whole 4-5lb chicken in it with just 11 briquettes. I love my kettle grillls too, but I would use at least 4 times the amount of charcoal (IE, in a 4x10 brick snake) for the same cook on my 18" Weber. Super economical and convenient.

    Susan - this is so intriguing to me. I have thought about this video a number of times since I first saw it. I have a big Weber kettle BBQ as well as a camp stove that we use outdoors. But I can see a number of possibilities with this thing. I’m not sure where it’s manufactured, but it’s quite pricey here - about twice the cost of the Weber. I’m gonna have to think on it and I would love to see it in person. 🤔 🤔 🤔

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it’s a bit of an investment - I think it depends so much on what you’re cooking. Here in uk when we’re camping off grid, it’s brilliant as it’s pretty cold and rainy even in the summer sometimes , so we want hot food and soups and can use the cobb wok pan for all of those kinds of things, risotto, stir fry etc with very little charcoal to carry. I also really like it’s part steam, part grill feel for chicken/meat but that’s not for everyone. Hopefully you’ll spot one in the wild when one day we are all more back to normal. It must take all your creativity cooking in that heat over there . Hoping for cooling rains for you all soon

      It's manufactured in China, like so many things. But it's a South African design and was originally designed to burn dried corn Cobb's in place of using petrol or paraffin. Great design and so versatile, the premier units are a bit small, best for two people. There is a larger model, the Supreme which is better size for a family

    Well, the absolute "cheapest" Cobb is 120 £. My Smokey Joe from Weber I bought for less than 300 Dkr (34 £).
    Made myself two coal baskets for indirect heating, one can buy them from Weber too at a very affordable price.
    A wire roast which cost me nothing I in the bottom of it so I won't have to use a lot of coal when barbecuing just for me.
    So I really got to ask myself if the cheapest Cobb (without any accessories at all) is really worth 3,5 times the price of a Smokey Joe? 🤔🤔
    Oh, I almost forgot...they give a 10-year guarantee it won't rust and fall into pieces.

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I totally agree, it wouldn't be worth it for the basic version and a kettle or similar would be much better value. It's the multi-cooking side that appeals to me.

      Hi David, i've never really found a good Cobb cookbook to be honest. I tend to treat it like I'm cooking on a low hob for this kind of dish and put an oven thermometer inside if roasting a chicken etc then make sure I use an instant read thermometer for any meat/fish just in case. Worth their weight in gold.
      I did buy the official cookbook years back but they weren't the kind of recipes that I cook in there - if you haven't seen it maybe see if they have a preview on Amazon.

    • @CookingandCalm
      @CookingandCalm  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there, in theory yes but it would be so slow that I wouldn't recommend. We tend to. Have on of those little 1 ring butane stoves for a quick cuppa. I just did a bit of research online and If you search on 'Cobb Grill America and Kettle' you'll see a separate 'camp kettle' they do. I've not seen it in person but customer reviews are very good. One person said it's very similar to the Irish brand's "Kelly kettle" which lights with twigs and anything lying around and heats super quickly. I hope that helps.

      Hi there, I've never tried that . In theory yes but I suspect it won't get hot enough as the Yorkshire pud likes a very hot oven. If trying, I'd maybe try using a Cobblestone as they get the hottest , or 12 briquettes which I think is the max . Good luck with it
