Cycling the High Rockies Trail in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada August 2021. A short bikepacking tour.

  • From Goat Creek to Peninsula trailhead, this is a bikepacking ride we did not far from our Canadian home in August 2021. We rode 70 km over two days as a shuttle, with a vehicle at each end of the route. Trail conditions were excellent, but the visibility was not. Unfortunately due to the terrible wildfires in neighbouring British Columbia in the summer of 2021, the skies are smoke-filled and views are very limited. So you'll have to try to imagine the blue skies and lofty peaks!

    Beautiful!
    I have been watching tons of bikepcking/touring videos and love that you have highlighted the Canadian rides! I have fallen back in love with riding, bought a good bike, and plan on doing the Alberta/B.C. rides you have shown, plus some!
    Please take no offense, but seeing retirees who are very likely older than I am (52 with some heavy medical hurdles) completing all these rides is INSPIRING! Without watching this I would never have known about the trail along the East side of Spray Lakes, or the hiker/biker camp sites, I am shocked at the price of them, $31/night? I pay just a touch more for a powered site with a travel trailer.
    Anyway, your videos are fantastic, and I appreciate all the info shared, and the inspiration gained. Thank You!

      Thank you so much for your lovely comment Richard. It's great to hear that you find the videos inspiring and that they're giving you ideas for your own rides and adventures - I love to hear that! No offense taken - we're definitely a LOT older than you. But this summer we were in Europe again and met a couple of amazing long- distance cycle tourists who were around 80. They're now our inspiration to keep it up! Best of luck with your future rides!

    Beautiful and memorable scenery I am very familiar with this area from my Canmore days , 86 to 96. My friends and I used to hike / ski Mt. Sparowhawk in summer , Mt Buller Tent and Trist Lk and others during the summer and winter . I used to bike pack with my skis into Mt. Commonwealth to ski the peak and camp in the meadow . Back then it was less fancy and free . No bear problems at all . Such great memories and thank you and congratulations .

    This was an awesome video. I have watched a few of your videos and you are inspiring me to go out and try some of these trails even just a one day ride to get started prior to pushing it out into a longer trails and overnighters. Kananaskis has lots of wonderful opportunities that are so hidden from people. Thanks for opening up more of the area to me.

    Wondering if you had access to a fresh water source near Buller hike/bike camp to refill your bladders? Thanks in advance!

    • @daphnebehindbars
      @daphnebehindbars  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can't quite remember if there was a little stream flowing into Buller Pond or not. We may have filtered water from the pond for drinking, and I'm sure we cooked with water from the pond. But along the trail itself there are definitely several good creeks to get water from.

    Could this route be ridden on a vtavel bike?

    • @daphnebehindbars
      @daphnebehindbars  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you mean a gravel bike, I have no personal experience riding gravel bikes, but from what I've seen on videos, people ride them on this type of trail. As I mentioned in the video, there's a couple of rough, rocky spots, but mostly it was pretty smooth when we did it.

    What bike specs do you take in consideration for trails like this ? Thx

    Amazing trip….yes going tubeless would be a no brainer (u probably can even get away from having full suspension bike in this trail if you had tubeless)

    It's waaay more fun to ride without all the gear.
