Im so glad you shared this. From all the videos you’ve posted eating, I’ve gotten the impression the Chinese were genuinely surprised & pleased a dark skinned brother speaks their language b/c most of them don’t travel. Racism is in every country but I would’ve been surprised if you’ve endured it there. I didn’t get that vibe from your posts but then again, we don’t know what you really go through. I’m glad your time there is going great so far. ❤️🙏🏼

As a Chinese, I agree with you and your feelings are absolutely justified. There is a lot of work we need to do to address racism in China and beyond. That begins by connecting people through our shared humanity. I think many Chinese interact with you in an awkward way because they don't understand how you feel. So I'm grateful for your work in school and here. China has and will always be a diverse nation. With 56 indigenous ethic groups, we will never arrive at where we are without learning from and working with everyone.
You feelings matter and you absolutely belong in China, deserving the same dignity and respect like everyone else. Just like every family, there will always be some aunties or uncles that try to ruin the Thanksgiving dinner with inappropriate conversations, but there will always be a place for you

I love seeing this kind of reaction. I was told by a Chinese teacher “they don’t like black in China.” Trust that I didn’t go back to that class. There’s some fear of going to China but this kind of perspective and mentality gives me hope!

Here for it (just hearing you talk)!!
Couple questions that could kick some video ideas
What’ve you learned while being there?
How much longer do you plan to live there?
Anywhere else you’d want to move and teach?
Going home soon? Or does any family have plans to visit you?
    Girlfriend- when/how did y’all meet?

Very happy u made the video i enjoyed it a lot!
Also i support ur view on the whole topic with leaving a good memorie for people.
I do the same as a ''dangerous/strange/suspicious'' looking turkish person who worked with children in Kindergarden in germany, i know exactly how some older people/highly protective parents can be towards some one who is supicious to them.
What the diffrence to ur situation is, im myself german so sometimes its a strange feeling cause im born here but i understand them and if i have the chance i always wave or smile towards people so they see im just another human living his life.😃

We were photographed a lot when we were in China. And we're white European. I never found the attention to be hostile, just a friendly curiosity. Most chinese people will never leave mainland China and Chinese media does not focus on the world outside China. So anyone non-chinese is still unusual. I didn't mind the attention, I found it wholesome. Great video!

Hi, Yinka. My questions for new videos are:
    1) Have you ever had any kind of medical emergency? How it is to a foreigner to deal with that in China? Are you supposed to pay a health insurance? Which one is more interesting for a foreigner?
    2) How do you do to rent a place to stay? Did you use an app like Wellcee or some kind of real state firm? What is a foreigner supposed to do concerning local government? I've heard you need to inform the Police departmanet nearby where you are living from time to time, but I don't know exactly how it works.
    Thanks, Dude!

I totally agree. Racism EVERYWHERE. From misinformation that is constantly being spread about blacks. It doesn't matter where you go. Me and my husband have experienced in our travels that when you have conversations with them you can see the light bulb 💡 turn on in their eyes. ❤. Keep spreading the good vibes.

Yinka, are you familiar with content creator Oriental Pearl's TH-cam channel she just did a video titled "Why you should never teach English in Japan." It was a light-hearted video. She's from the US, and lived in China for some years and now lives in Japan and speaks Mandarin and Japanese fluently. She is married to a Japanese man. It was funny hearing her take on teaching English to Japanese children. The video is only 12 minutes. I'd love to hear your perspective on teaching Chinese children English. Thanks. She took us in the classroom and we got to see the children.

When I was living in Beijing a few years ago I attended a big hospital of traditional Chinese medicine, and was a unique experience (example: pulse and tongue diagnosis, bags of tea as medicine). Are there this kind of hospitals at Shenzhen so you could visit one and record ? Just a suggestion as a theme.
