England beat Germany 3 years ago and the German team were called poor and the Italian team is the worst in living memory. That's what would have been said if England beat them this Euros but Spain get the credit (they rightly deserve) where we wouldn't.

If you've never seen a Spanish League game I guess you would think the EPL players are the best.
If England win it - probably 2 or 3 days of feeling good.
If England lose it - probably a day feeling down, a 2nd day feeling slightly down, then full recovery, though when future tournaments emerge, always end up looking back at the missed opportunities.
Well that's debatable. We have big names, but so do they, and even their lesser known players are very useful. I don't see how we could be favourites when we're playing like we are, and spain have been purring and functioning very well with fast paced attacking football. We are the underdogs mate. Don't over hype us so you can bash us if we lose.

The way Netherlands with that awful front line managed to cause trouble at times, as well as the swiss can not bode well for the final imo. Spain will carve them open, if they could get through France ( best defence by far) can only see this going one way

@@monkey39128 I'd argue it has to be a tactics thing due to it being international tournament football. We don't see Champions League sides become so negative as soon as they get a lead, with a few exceptions... usually managed by Mourinho etc... your point is valid though. Because as you've rightly pointed out, it isn't only England doing it, hence why I think it's just cautious/boring international tactics.

First of all, they have. Against Georgia, Germany and France. In all of them 3 they either conceded first and had to comeback or put under severe pressure (against the strongest team, alongside them, in the host's country) and forced to play extra time.
Second of all, I'm actually gobsmacked by the logic behind this question taking into account the teams they faced in comparison to Spain. The fact that England has been put into those type of situations with, as he said himself, the best squad in the competition might just say eveything you need to know.
I wouldn't be surprised if Spain wiped-out England in the final. The fact that Spain has played against equally strong or even stronger opponents than England and still beat them gives me the confidence to know that they will lift the trophy.
Southgate won't make changes at half time like he will need to if he starts the same 10 players every game, and they'll make changes too late as usual.
England have no one that compares to Rodri. Rodri brings cohesion to the team.

e,g...IF England are in control in the first half and take a 1-0 lead clueless Southgate will have everyone defending in our own box to protect it. He'll take off our best attacking players to defend it and we'll lose.
If England as is likely go behind then Southgate will stand there like a deer in the headlights until the 85-90th minute before bringing on Watkins, Palmer, Gordon.... Too late and we'll lose.

Under Southgate, England has had more success in knockout football matches than all other England managers combined since 1966!! We are now in back to back finals. Only the 3rd country to have managed that at the Euros. You say he's clueless, I say you have a short memory.
I'm not saying I've agreed with all his decisions, or it's not time for someone new, but people need to give him the credit he deserves and stop being so dramatic. Under Southgate, we've got used to Engkand going deep in to tournaments, and as a long suffering England supporter, I'm grateful for that.

You've not factored in the very lucky draws we've had against weaker teams and the fact that the moment we meet any decent team his idiotic team selections, tactics and in-game management will cost us the game like it has in every single previous tournament. This is what will unfortunately probably happen against Spain.... One of the worst managers I've ever seen at this level!

I've been screaming at the telly for him to make quicker substitutions and frustrated with the same formation being used until we met Switzerland. I was angry in the group games and how we played against Slovakia, and yes, we have been lucky with our draw.
I'm just saying that something has happened under Southgate that I haven't seen in my lifetime, whether that is inspite of him or because of him is debatable, but I've seen other England teams, other "golden generations" that have severely disappointed in a way the teams under Southgate haven't. The players seem to like him and there seems to be a culture and resilience in this team. Look at England's penalty shoot out record under Southgate compared under other England managers.
I'm not saying the man is a tactical genius or that he should even remain manager, I'm just saying some part of England's recent successes has to be accredited to the culture he has helped create around this team.
Of course Spain had the more difficult run, but have they been made to look better than they are?

I'd normally say Walker, but he has been absolutely terrible this tournament, so that no longer applies. Foden is probably the only one that gets in, he'd suit Spain's style perfectly and he has natural chemistry with Rodri.
