So let me get this straight. Some of the Best Fan Indie animators got together to make a Tournament with their fan-made RWBY Teams to fight each other in the biggest crossover event since the Avengers. That's AWESOME!
They have a whole routine memorized and perfected to make their designated bakugo chill out and it’s amazing! And mark continues to to come up with so many creative and inspired ways for the oc’s to use their stuff within the boundaries that he already set up for them. It really feels like these characters have been training and using their powers for most of their lives. Great work Mark

I legit had to slow down the vid to see it because my brain couldn't keep up, i was simply amazed by what i was seeing, when i finally understood it i just had to kneel, so cool and well thought
They really paid attention to how the weight of that massive sword would (more or less) be used. Because of how heavy it is you can see the whole time the dude uses it’s own weight to swing it around and if he block with it he has it resting on the ground. A lot of shows will just have he swing it like a kid swinging a stick with no difficulty but they really made me believe how heavy and powerful that weapon is just by how he fights with it. @@danzack900What’s more the opponents semblance reflects force, so basically all the force from that blast was just reflected back to him. So technically Simin did dig his own grave when he tried to use the force of the explosion against obsidius
@fallensnow8859 Yeah it's essentially a risky gamble on his part; it's stated in Obsidius' bio that Throwback does have a limit to that which it can reflect but Simin trying to overpower it results in one of two things happening (Bye Simin or Bye Obsidius). He doesn't know it has a limit but the only way to win at that point is to go for an all out push considering he's nearly at his limit too and has seen how defensively resilient the shield + stun baton combo is
Love how it took the whole team to get Lycan a chill pill. I also get the impression that the club teacher is meant to resemble Monty, which is a banger way to honor him. Not to mention both the choreography and characterization were top notch. The torch burns bright; as you've been inspired, so too has your audience. Thank you for your craft and vision.
Obsidius would absolutely make it to Vytal festival finals with what he was packing, greatsword turned into Shield and lance on top of his semblance pretty much would likely allow the dude to easily win most mids of the tournament in a fight, only way I can see some losses is if he has to face Pyhrra, or his teamates cant pull their weight in the 4 on 4 or 2 on 2 match ups and he aint enough to flex the win.

@@eliasochoa8880 there’s a link in the description with Obsidus’ bio, but I think it’s that he can take the active energy from attacks and redirect it as he would like. It’s kind of like Yang and Adam’s but the main difference being that they can store energy and dish it out when they want and he has to immediately redirect it.
Simin throwing the fire axes first before slamming them resulting in an explosion was such a genius strategy, such a shame it got used against him. Really like the comedy and choreography here, thank you and all other creators for making this!
the old rwby vibes....so amazing!!! this was even the first time simin's earth dust was revealed to be a giant shield! obsidian's weapon was insanely cool btw.
I love how your MC's dust obsession mirrors Ruby's weapon obsession. Using a character's love for a world element to flesh it out better is such a natural method of exposition that goes so underutilized in the actual show. Love to see it, keep up the great work!
A fan OC tournament crossover is such a cool concept, and it's so nostalgic to see fight choreography where every movement feels important and fluid. Amazing job to all involved.
I dunno, I don't think he would have the creative freedom with "them" if he ended up getting a job there, especially in light of the allegations about the company. But if he did collab with other peeps who made RWBY Teams or just RWBY OCs in general, that would certainly be cool.

Wow, I love the *weight* of the animation. It really feels like Obsidius is wielding a small jet(and Simin's struggle in the fight is that he decidedly is not)
I liked how in the sword fight Simin is pushed back when blocking Obsidius’ larger blade, makes it feel like the weapons have weight to them and in general their moves have impact. I really enjoyed the choreography
4:58 Interesting to see Simin go out of his way to pick up his weapon, even though he can make more. I guess he needs to preserve dust. Would be cool to see a kind of Unlimited Blade Works style attack, where he just throws a bunch of weapons at his opponent. With the added twist that throughout the rest of the fight he would be hopping around picking up all those scattered weapons.
I actually thought up a lot of head cannon based on this like maybe he gets all of his dust from smaller shops because doesn't support skeevy large corporations and that's the reason he was trying to buy the eruption dust from a small street vendor instead of a bigger dust dispensary like a one owned by the Schnee dust company, it would probably take months for a small business to get that type of rare dust in stock verses a monolithic industry like the Schnee dust company but since they abuse faunus for cheap labor he prefers to have less dust to work with for longer periods of time rather then buy any more accessable but Inhumanly sourced dust, it'd be kind of a cool thing for him to go out of his way to do in spite of how obsessed he is with dust since he actually has a faunus on his team, that and the fact that Lycan dresses kind of like a White Fang member gives them gives them a sorta more punk edge. Alternatively though it could just be a result of how Simin grew up, maybe he didn't have a lot and had to use anything he could get his hands on or it could just be a mindset brought as a result of his clumsiness, he never stumbles in battle and makes thorough use of every weapon he makes so that the dust it's made of doesn't go to waste. It could also be a whole combination of these ideas or none of em

those axes looked like just another fire dust construct though. there nothing saying each dust type is limited to one weapon (heck ice we already knew before this could be a sword or a shield.) Edit: ok i must've looked away for a second because i completely missed him pullnig out the earth dust.
You gotta remember that Obsidius here had a Semblance to take advantage of, and a very powerful one at that, while Simin does not. On top of his own natural prowess, the fact that Simin was still able to give him such a good fight is impressive enough on its own!
he does have a semblance, but it isnt clearly shown in the animations, only really properly explained by the creator - Simin is able to make things more durable when touching them, which is how he makes his fragile dust weapons not break or explode in his hands

Youve really understood, captured, and put your own spin on Montys choreography, and your character design is no slouch either. It really feels like it belongs in the world and I think that's the highest compliment I can give. Love everything you put out and cant wait to see what comes next

I kept up for awhile and fell off too and Rooster Teeth has it's own questionable practices but I love seeing fan work like this too! It's awesome some of the stuff the show inspired people to make.
It would be fun to go in depth on all the detail in this fight but one thing I love about it in particular is actual back and forths between the two characters without needing to slow the pace of the fight 3:41 in specific is a really neat showing of how the advantage in combat actually flows between the two as opposed to one person dominating the fight, and it happens in just 10 seconds: Simin gets knocked down and recovers, goes on an offensive flurry of attacks after predicting the greatsword's movements which is Obsidius' weakness, and is about to land what would be a critical knockdown but Obsidius effectively uses his semblance to turn that momentum (haha) against him Stuff like that is really enjoyable to watch because then it isn't just someone showcasing how broken they are, rather it's a combination of using powers effectively and reacting to an opponent These things are amazing and I truly hope in the future it'll go well!
Love that Obsidian's weapon is basically an MH charge blade, but greatsword instead of greataxe. If im reading his combat style right, he's got a momentum reversal or transition semblance

I LOVE Ragora's new outfit, too! This was so well done. I feel like I'm watching Monty's world and animation coming to life all over again. Awesome work!
Wow. Just wow. 2.5 minutes of straight, solid fighting. Even RWBY fights are rarely that long. The animation "physics" here is better than some professional stuff by WB. And you understand fight rhythm so much better than most. Great job, and I'll be eagerly waiting for your next video.
That fight between simin and obsidius was fantastic! You could actually see the weight behind every swing with Obsidius's great sword, using the momentum to his advantage! Very nicely done! i like the act they used a modified charge blade with the moonblade semblance vs a dude who can turn dust into a physical weapon that also contains the elemental properties
Probably one of the best-choreographed fight scenes I have ever seen and I'm sad no one else is talking about this. From Simin checking Obsidius' sword in one of the exchanges to keep his pressure and flurry of attacks going to Obsidius torquing his body after getting swept by Simin and using the giant shield he had planted beneath him to save his fall and the boosters from the shield to carry on and boost the momentum into a spinning kick to the ribs- all of that and MORE. Words can't even begin to properly describe this masterpiece

I'm not, he's much too talented and not tainted by fandom drama like the others. I lost a lot of respect for a lot of RWBY fan creators after they got mad about people's valid complaints about the oversexualized holiday art collabs.
@Manuel kfc So a bunch of RWBY fan artists, a good chunk of which were porn artists started doing art collabs mainly around holidays, they started with a Christmas collab and predictably they couldn't control themselves. And people had pretty reasonable complaints, mainly that they invited porn artists to draw sexualized art for a SFW holiday collab, and that art amounting to nearly all the female characters wearing tight skimpy clothing with pornstar bodies that their male counterparts didn't (one or two male characters were shirtless or wearing shorts and an open shirt but it's not nearly as sexualized and they all had vaguely canonical body proportions). Also there was other cringe like Sytokun drawing art of Tyrian abducting Fiona with rapey vibes and trying to excuse it as a Krampus reference or the fact Fiona and Robin were the two Happy Huntresses that got art and coincidentally are the two conventionally attractive ones versus Joanna the masculine black woman and May the trans women. And of course they tried to call people that think that female characters don't always need to be drawn with vacuum-sealed clothes prudes for calling out blatant misogynistic double standards. Because NSFW artists are fragile as fuck. And sadly all the HTDM, roaches they are and a good chunk of the FNDM took their side and I lost a lot of respect for artists and other creators like Aestheticc-Meme, JumpinJamz, A.G. Nonsuch, and the guy that made NYON that either contributed to the collab and defended the sexual art or weren't part of it but still defended it. And it only solidified my hatred for people like Syto or Keith Montalban, who was one of the main organizers and whose OCs are in this video. Didn't help a good few of the artists were in the HTDM anyway so they were never gonna take criticism well and get asspats from their circle but also probably did this all to be spiteful at least somewhat. They then did a Chinese New Year collab that was less horny but still pretty horny, and while I don't know if I can agree with the cultural appropriation accusations considering some Asian people worked on it (most weren't Chinese though), moreso it's kinda shitty how often anime sexualizes traditional Chinese clothing. But that's a bigger issue than an art collab. Their more recent art is less sexualized as a whole but still. Basically I lost a lot of respect from most of the fan artists and fan creators and I feel Mark dishonors himself associating with them and in general he's just so much more talented than everyone else here and you can see from how better designed his OCs are in comparison to say Keith's cringey self-insert that dates Weiss. People are of course gonna act like the fans were solely overreacting here because the HTDM thinks they're prosecuted.
I'm not sure if this is intentional detail, but at 4:24, the reason the fire sword breaks is because if you look back during the clashes Obsidius has been hitting the sword in the same spot over and over

Im not gonna lie, this animation with Simin had Unlimited blade works vibes of emiya. Like I can feel him seeing Simin fight, was so good I was at the edge of my seat just hearing there blades crash together.
After 10 years, I have finally found a fan work that rivals Monty's worth my commenting, and I don't say this lightly. Great camera work, no wasted movements, great flow, weights on the attacks, slow mos, lines are all superbe. I wonder though, how much time did this take you? Very well done! You did an awesome job selling the difference in equipment weight during the fight. I assume Simin's ice, fire and wind weapons are meant to have very little weight, shown by how quickly he can stop and start an attack, or change his direction compared to Obsidious who when going on the offensive had to keep a single motion going for a looong time to actually throw out anything. You also avoided a big pet peeve of mine at 4:07, where you handled a "bind" correctly. Obsidious hit with the very edge of his blade (AKA the weak of the blade) and Simin defended with the very base (AKA the strong), in that position, Simin has a great deal of control over Obsidious' weapon as well as being in a better position to launch an attack. Simin first forced Obsidious' guard open by shoving their weapon down, and then went on the offensive. Plus, it was a fairly fast exchange, as most binds are! I personally find it really takes me out of a fight when two characters seriously trying to win slam their weapons together and then just mindlessly push. They could at least try to trip the opponent or grab the weapon or just do anything XD Good work avoiding that!
That fight was awesome, but I'd also like to add that the conversation at the start is another thing you dhod be proud of. The characters felt really natural with each other, like they're actually friends. Plus, I love how they each had a hand in stopping Linen, like they have to do it all the time
Symin kinda reminds me of Ruby with them both being nerds for certain things, but Mark did Symin better in my opinion because we saw him going deep into explaining about dust and even having a conflict over dust.
Dunno if youve seen this video but a TH-camr named shadiversitu tackled idea of how u can functionally use a fanstasy giant greatsword in various combat situations. This video almost seems like a perfect realization of that conceptual fighting style he talked about using the momentum and weight of the blade as linking points into other moves and keeping the blade on the shoulder for block attacks and moving to other strikes. Amazing animation 👏🏽👏🏽
Dude, I’ve been a fan of yours since the first charcoal trailer. The animation and the characters are slicker now it’s amazing to see how well your animation has gotten. I think the feeling Simin has issues with luck, I love your characters and I can’t wait for the next one

I saw this in my recommended and literally squealed...the animation somehow keeps improving and I get completely memorized by the fight choreography. Absolutely spectacular!
This felt great, fresh, nostalgic, simple, enjoyable and passionate! I love the effort put in! Its almost like watching RWBY for the first time again from the beginning.
Oh my god this was so good, Many other's here have said that it FEELS like the RWBY that the late Monty had envisioned and it SHOWS. The Choreography juggles back and forth between high-speed anime-ish moves before switching gears near-seamlessly into a slower tempo of deliberate and very "grounded" fighting styles while still giving each character room to show how they leverage their uniqueness into making it their own. The fight starts off with Obsidius closing, Simin countering with a deft dodge and quick slash inside of Obsidius' guard. This tells me that Obsidius is a mix of brash but also calculating when he does get serious. Sure, this initial clash takes a chunk of Obsidius' aura, but it lets him quickly learn what Simin plans on doing, so now seeing this Obsidius changes gears to keeping distance, using his weapons greater reach, mass, and huge momentum advantage to control the fight and force Simin back. Simin then takes the initiative to close in, trying to break past the giant sword's guard, keeping up a constant pressure that remains even after Obsidius counters by using his huge blade to block, bracing his heavy weapon against the ground to absorb the initial barrage of slashes from Simin and follows it up with a quick strike at the legs tripping Simin. Simin allows Obsidius to send him back so that he can go back to what worked in the opening of the fight, letting Obsidius come to him. Which allows him to regain the advantage and counter the heavier weapon's advantages with a renewed assault only for Obsidius to reveal his trump card. Obsidius Reveals his Semblance, which appears to be Momentum Redirection, and I don't need to tell anyone here how powerful it is to have a weapon whose greatest weakness and greatest strength is the sheer momentum it can create just by moving and being able to completely nullify the weakness while practically abusing that strength. It is an incredible combo that not only keeps in-line with what RWBY established Semblances to be capable of, and also gives the character an excuse to have an exotic fighting style. Oh but that's not all, after literally and figuratively shattering Simin's momentum, Obsidius follows up with a brutal slam into the ground, taking Simin to the floor, and then a frickin sword beam using blue fire, which is countered with Simin's own choice of fire weaponry as the fight renews in earnest. Honestly I could go on and on gushing about the sheer marvel of this fight and the choreography balancing anime flashiness with the more grounded economy of movement and aggression. Talking about how Obsidius changing to a great shield and club/mace allows him to use the shield to tank hits and counter with a momentum-boosted mace swing, or how it lets him end the fight with a BRUTAL counter-slam with his shield but I think I've eaten up enough comment space. This truly is RWBY as it should have been, and likely WOULD have been had the mind behind it all not been unfortunately taken before their time, and I'm sure he is proud of all of you for your amazing work. And oh dear god that animation, it's not perfect(likely wont be for some time) but ohohoh it is sooo good! It has so much Character, so much momentum. Every hit FEELS like it has weight, not this flighty weightless far-too-fast and confusing mess of modern RWBY, absolutely stellar work from all involved! And the story, while not something you'd be putting in any great novels, is simple, light-hearted, and funny. Classic early RWBY feel and I just adore it, I need me my shot of lighthearted fun! Of course I, with zero talent in animation, story making, and no basis of knowledge for fight choreography, am not the most qualified person for judging it so my observations may be inaccurate. If anyone here is more knowledgeable I'd be happy to hear your own thoughts on this, see how my observations(mad ramblings) compare with someone who actually knows what they are talking about.
Ok just finished. The animation came so far omfg. The movements were so fluid and the effects were on point. Love Simon’s arsenal per usual but seems like he got some additions. The fire axes were cool and we finally got to see his earth weapon. Obsidius was great too, his weapon is awesome. That big ass sword expanding to a rocket shield was badass. I was jumping with excitement when I saw the rest of SLVR, and damn near fainted when I saw the other characters. Like be fr, SLVR, NYON, & DARK all in one place???? The other OCs are great ofc but that’s literally 3 of the most iconic fan teams??? I cannot wait to see where this goes. Good work to everyone who worked on this, and thank you for carrying the RWBY spirit. Monty would’ve loved this collaboration I know it. Here’s to Volume 10+ and more amazing fan work like this!!!!

Hot damn, badass as always. Aside from the big moments and the overall quality of the animation and choreography, I also love the little touches. Like Obsidious kicking his weapon while swinging it to give it a boost when he brought it upwards 3:31, or Simin slightly spinning when his legs were swept 3:39 and having an extra bounce when he leapt back 3:42. Just the attention to momentum makes it so much cooler to watch. Also, Lycan continuing to just run even with the familiar clamping its jaws on his head gave me a good chuckle.
I was surprised to see this in my recommended and I have to say I truly enjoyed this! It has a lot of potential and I hope to see it go as far as possible. Makes you wonder what kind of show RWBY would've been if they kept things low-scale and fun.
Incredible work, guys, I'm very happy to see Mark back and this time alongside other talented animators. The fight was truly majestic and the dialouges spot on, that trough had to be the most exxaggerate sword and shield combo ever( not that is a bad thing). Best of luck with the rest of the project.

Just the Little details being applied. The expression, the character's small movements to not make them stiff, the way they fight. *The fact Obsidius uses his LEG to kick the Greatsword!* It of itself is such a clever way to increase the momentum of the swing. I've seen very few MMORPG games actually use that in they attack combos but when it appears, its glorious. Let me not sleep on Simin, bro packed up some new toys and I won't let it slide. *Man came clutching up and he got my respect. I didn't see the stone shield coming. I thought he was gonna win when he plop that up but Obsidius yeeted him back!* Yeah it's cool to see your OC win but the to see them Lose is actually quite satisfying. A lot of animes and such will always have they character get a Power Up and Win the fight and that can be boring if repeating over and over. Simin going on the Defense at first and then going onto Offense makes sense as if he himself is analyzing his opponent. Ik we ain't gonna get Episode 2 in a good while but... *Man this COOKING*

@fallensnow8859 Yeah it's essentially a risky gamble on his part; it's stated in Obsidius' bio that Throwback does have a limit to that which it can reflect but Simin trying to overpower it results in one of two things happening (Bye Simin or Bye Obsidius). He doesn't know it has a limit but the only way to win at that point is to go for an all out push considering he's nearly at his limit too and has seen how defensively resilient the shield + stun baton combo is

I also get the impression that the club teacher is meant to resemble Monty, which is a banger way to honor him.

Obsidius would absolutely make it to Vytal festival finals with what he was packing, greatsword turned into Shield and lance on top of his semblance pretty much would likely allow the dude to easily win most mids of the tournament in a fight, only way I can see some losses is if he has to face Pyhrra, or his teamates cant pull their weight in the 4 on 4 or 2 on 2 match ups and he aint enough to flex the win.

It’s kind of like Yang and Adam’s but the main difference being that they can store energy and dish it out when they want and he has to immediately redirect it.

I love how your MC's dust obsession mirrors Ruby's weapon obsession. Using a character's love for a world element to flesh it out better is such a natural method of exposition that goes so underutilized in the actual show. Love to see it, keep up the great work!
His love for Dusts also makes sense since it would benefit him a lot in battle as well.

I liked how in the sword fight Simin is pushed back when blocking Obsidius’ larger blade, makes it feel like the weapons have weight to them and in general their moves have impact. I really enjoyed the choreography
4:58 Interesting to see Simin go out of his way to pick up his weapon, even though he can make more. I guess he needs to preserve dust. Would be cool to see a kind of Unlimited Blade Works style attack, where he just throws a bunch of weapons at his opponent. With the added twist that throughout the rest of the fight he would be hopping around picking up all those scattered weapons.

I actually thought up a lot of head cannon based on this like maybe he gets all of his dust from smaller shops because doesn't support skeevy large corporations and that's the reason he was trying to buy the eruption dust from a small street vendor instead of a bigger dust dispensary like a one owned by the Schnee dust company, it would probably take months for a small business to get that type of rare dust in stock verses a monolithic industry like the Schnee dust company but since they abuse faunus for cheap labor he prefers to have less dust to work with for longer periods of time rather then buy any more accessable but Inhumanly sourced dust, it'd be kind of a cool thing for him to go out of his way to do in spite of how obsessed he is with dust since he actually has a faunus on his team, that and the fact that Lycan dresses kind of like a White Fang member gives them gives them a sorta more punk edge.
Alternatively though it could just be a result of how Simin grew up, maybe he didn't have a lot and had to use anything he could get his hands on or it could just be a mindset brought as a result of his clumsiness, he never stumbles in battle and makes thorough use of every weapon he makes so that the dust it's made of doesn't go to waste. It could also be a whole combination of these ideas or none of em

I have been waiting literal years to see what the fourth dust type did, and I love every bit of this animation so much!
those axes looked like just another fire dust construct though. there nothing saying each dust type is limited to one weapon (heck ice we already knew before this could be a sword or a shield.) Edit: ok i must've looked away for a second because i completely missed him pullnig out the earth dust.

You gotta remember that Obsidius here had a Semblance to take advantage of, and a very powerful one at that, while Simin does not. On top of his own natural prowess, the fact that Simin was still able to give him such a good fight is impressive enough on its own!

he does have a semblance, but it isnt clearly shown in the animations, only really properly explained by the creator - Simin is able to make things more durable when touching them, which is how he makes his fragile dust weapons not break or explode in his hands

Can't believe I have finally gotten to witness see Simin use the earth dust.
It would be fun to go in depth on all the detail in this fight but one thing I love about it in particular is actual back and forths between the two characters without needing to slow the pace of the fight
3:41 in specific is a really neat showing of how the advantage in combat actually flows between the two as opposed to one person dominating the fight, and it happens in just 10 seconds: Simin gets knocked down and recovers, goes on an offensive flurry of attacks after predicting the greatsword's movements which is Obsidius' weakness, and is about to land what would be a critical knockdown but Obsidius effectively uses his semblance to turn that momentum (haha) against him
Stuff like that is really enjoyable to watch because then it isn't just someone showcasing how broken they are, rather it's a combination of using powers effectively and reacting to an opponent

Love that Obsidian's weapon is basically an MH charge blade, but greatsword instead of greataxe. If im reading his combat style right, he's got a momentum reversal or transition semblance

Wow. Just wow. 2.5 minutes of straight, solid fighting. Even RWBY fights are rarely that long. The animation "physics" here is better than some professional stuff by WB. And you understand fight rhythm so much better than most. Great job, and I'll be eagerly waiting for your next video.

That fight between simin and obsidius was fantastic! You could actually see the weight behind every swing with Obsidius's great sword, using the momentum to his advantage! Very nicely done! i like the act they used a modified charge blade with the moonblade semblance vs a dude who can turn dust into a physical weapon that also contains the elemental properties
Probably one of the best-choreographed fight scenes I have ever seen and I'm sad no one else is talking about this. From Simin checking Obsidius' sword in one of the exchanges to keep his pressure and flurry of attacks going to Obsidius torquing his body after getting swept by Simin and using the giant shield he had planted beneath him to save his fall and the boosters from the shield to carry on and boost the momentum into a spinning kick to the ribs- all of that and MORE.

I'm not, he's much too talented and not tainted by fandom drama like the others. I lost a lot of respect for a lot of RWBY fan creators after they got mad about people's valid complaints about the oversexualized holiday art collabs.

@Manuel kfc So a bunch of RWBY fan artists, a good chunk of which were porn artists started doing art collabs mainly around holidays, they started with a Christmas collab and predictably they couldn't control themselves. And people had pretty reasonable complaints, mainly that they invited porn artists to draw sexualized art for a SFW holiday collab, and that art amounting to nearly all the female characters wearing tight skimpy clothing with pornstar bodies that their male counterparts didn't (one or two male characters were shirtless or wearing shorts and an open shirt but it's not nearly as sexualized and they all had vaguely canonical body proportions). Also there was other cringe like Sytokun drawing art of Tyrian abducting Fiona with rapey vibes and trying to excuse it as a Krampus reference or the fact Fiona and Robin were the two Happy Huntresses that got art and coincidentally are the two conventionally attractive ones versus Joanna the masculine black woman and May the trans women. And of course they tried to call people that think that female characters don't always need to be drawn with vacuum-sealed clothes prudes for calling out blatant misogynistic double standards. Because NSFW artists are fragile as fuck. And sadly all the HTDM, roaches they are and a good chunk of the FNDM took their side and I lost a lot of respect for artists and other creators like Aestheticc-Meme, JumpinJamz, A.G. Nonsuch, and the guy that made NYON that either contributed to the collab and defended the sexual art or weren't part of it but still defended it. And it only solidified my hatred for people like Syto or Keith Montalban, who was one of the main organizers and whose OCs are in this video. Didn't help a good few of the artists were in the HTDM anyway so they were never gonna take criticism well and get asspats from their circle but also probably did this all to be spiteful at least somewhat. They then did a Chinese New Year collab that was less horny but still pretty horny, and while I don't know if I can agree with the cultural appropriation accusations considering some Asian people worked on it (most weren't Chinese though), moreso it's kinda shitty how often anime sexualizes traditional Chinese clothing. But that's a bigger issue than an art collab. Their more recent art is less sexualized as a whole but still.
Basically I lost a lot of respect from most of the fan artists and fan creators and I feel Mark dishonors himself associating with them and in general he's just so much more talented than everyone else here and you can see from how better designed his OCs are in comparison to say Keith's cringey self-insert that dates Weiss. People are of course gonna act like the fans were solely overreacting here because the HTDM thinks they're prosecuted.

I'm not sure if this is intentional detail, but at 4:24, the reason the fire sword breaks is because if you look back during the clashes Obsidius has been hitting the sword in the same spot over and over

Holy hell is it good to see you post RWBY content after years.
Very well done! You did an awesome job selling the difference in equipment weight during the fight. I assume Simin's ice, fire and wind weapons are meant to have very little weight, shown by how quickly he can stop and start an attack, or change his direction compared to Obsidious who when going on the offensive had to keep a single motion going for a looong time to actually throw out anything.
You also avoided a big pet peeve of mine at 4:07, where you handled a "bind" correctly. Obsidious hit with the very edge of his blade (AKA the weak of the blade) and Simin defended with the very base (AKA the strong), in that position, Simin has a great deal of control over Obsidious' weapon as well as being in a better position to launch an attack. Simin first forced Obsidious' guard open by shoving their weapon down, and then went on the offensive. Plus, it was a fairly fast exchange, as most binds are!
I personally find it really takes me out of a fight when two characters seriously trying to win slam their weapons together and then just mindlessly push. They could at least try to trip the opponent or grab the weapon or just do anything XD

That fight was awesome, but I'd also like to add that the conversation at the start is another thing you dhod be proud of. The characters felt really natural with each other, like they're actually friends. Plus, I love how they each had a hand in stopping Linen, like they have to do it all the time
Symin kinda reminds me of Ruby with them both being nerds for certain things, but Mark did Symin better in my opinion because we saw him going deep into explaining about dust and even having a conflict over dust.
Dunno if youve seen this video but a TH-camr named shadiversitu tackled idea of how u can functionally use a fanstasy giant greatsword in various combat situations. This video almost seems like a perfect realization of that conceptual fighting style he talked about using the momentum and weight of the blade as linking points into other moves and keeping the blade on the shoulder for block attacks and moving to other strikes. Amazing animation 👏🏽👏🏽

I love it and - OH MY GOD IS THIS WHERE EVERYONE DISSAPPEARED TO FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS! I’m so invested!

This felt great, fresh, nostalgic, simple, enjoyable and passionate! I love the effort put in! Its almost like watching RWBY for the first time again from the beginning.
Oh my god this was so good, Many other's here have said that it FEELS like the RWBY that the late Monty had envisioned and it SHOWS. The Choreography juggles back and forth between high-speed anime-ish moves before switching gears near-seamlessly into a slower tempo of deliberate and very "grounded" fighting styles while still giving each character room to show how they leverage their uniqueness into making it their own.
The fight starts off with Obsidius closing, Simin countering with a deft dodge and quick slash inside of Obsidius' guard. This tells me that Obsidius is a mix of brash but also calculating when he does get serious. Sure, this initial clash takes a chunk of Obsidius' aura, but it lets him quickly learn what Simin plans on doing, so now seeing this Obsidius changes gears to keeping distance, using his weapons greater reach, mass, and huge momentum advantage to control the fight and force Simin back.
Simin then takes the initiative to close in, trying to break past the giant sword's guard, keeping up a constant pressure that remains even after Obsidius counters by using his huge blade to block, bracing his heavy weapon against the ground to absorb the initial barrage of slashes from Simin and follows it up with a quick strike at the legs tripping Simin.
Simin allows Obsidius to send him back so that he can go back to what worked in the opening of the fight, letting Obsidius come to him. Which allows him to regain the advantage and counter the heavier weapon's advantages with a renewed assault only for Obsidius to reveal his trump card.
Obsidius Reveals his Semblance, which appears to be Momentum Redirection, and I don't need to tell anyone here how powerful it is to have a weapon whose greatest weakness and greatest strength is the sheer momentum it can create just by moving and being able to completely nullify the weakness while practically abusing that strength. It is an incredible combo that not only keeps in-line with what RWBY established Semblances to be capable of, and also gives the character an excuse to have an exotic fighting style.
Oh but that's not all, after literally and figuratively shattering Simin's momentum, Obsidius follows up with a brutal slam into the ground, taking Simin to the floor, and then a frickin sword beam using blue fire, which is countered with Simin's own choice of fire weaponry as the fight renews in earnest.
Honestly I could go on and on gushing about the sheer marvel of this fight and the choreography balancing anime flashiness with the more grounded economy of movement and aggression. Talking about how Obsidius changing to a great shield and club/mace allows him to use the shield to tank hits and counter with a momentum-boosted mace swing, or how it lets him end the fight with a BRUTAL counter-slam with his shield but I think I've eaten up enough comment space. This truly is RWBY as it should have been, and likely WOULD have been had the mind behind it all not been unfortunately taken before their time, and I'm sure he is proud of all of you for your amazing work. And oh dear god that animation, it's not perfect(likely wont be for some time) but ohohoh it is sooo good! It has so much Character, so much momentum. Every hit FEELS like it has weight, not this flighty weightless far-too-fast and confusing mess of modern RWBY, absolutely stellar work from all involved!
And the story, while not something you'd be putting in any great novels, is simple, light-hearted, and funny. Classic early RWBY feel and I just adore it, I need me my shot of lighthearted fun!
Of course I, with zero talent in animation, story making, and no basis of knowledge for fight choreography, am not the most qualified person for judging it so my observations may be inaccurate. If anyone here is more knowledgeable I'd be happy to hear your own thoughts on this, see how my observations(mad ramblings) compare with someone who actually knows what they are talking about.

The fight scenes are so frickin smooth and I love the humor as well. Amazing job to everyone involved in making this
Ok just finished. The animation came so far omfg. The movements were so fluid and the effects were on point. Love Simon’s arsenal per usual but seems like he got some additions. The fire axes were cool and we finally got to see his earth weapon. Obsidius was great too, his weapon is awesome. That big ass sword expanding to a rocket shield was badass. I was jumping with excitement when I saw the rest of SLVR, and damn near fainted when I saw the other characters. Like be fr, SLVR, NYON, & DARK all in one place???? The other OCs are great ofc but that’s literally 3 of the most iconic fan teams??? I cannot wait to see where this goes. Good work to everyone who worked on this, and thank you for carrying the RWBY spirit. Monty would’ve loved this collaboration I know it. Here’s to Volume 10+ and more amazing fan work like this!!!!
Great animation, Mark, and with more new characters, I just can't wait to see the possible outcomes you're about to put in, new semblance, new location, new plots and more.
Hot damn, badass as always. Aside from the big moments and the overall quality of the animation and choreography, I also love the little touches. Like Obsidious kicking his weapon while swinging it to give it a boost when he brought it upwards 3:31, or Simin slightly spinning when his legs were swept 3:39 and having an extra bounce when he leapt back 3:42. Just the attention to momentum makes it so much cooler to watch.
Also, Lycan continuing to just run even with the familiar clamping its jaws on his head gave me a good chuckle.
I was surprised to see this in my recommended and I have to say I truly enjoyed this! It has a lot of potential and I hope to see it go as far as possible. Makes you wonder what kind of show RWBY would've been if they kept things low-scale and fun.
Incredible work, guys, I'm very happy to see Mark back and this time alongside other talented animators. The fight was truly majestic and the dialouges spot on, that trough had to be the most exxaggerate sword and shield combo ever( not that is a bad thing). Best of luck with the rest of the project.

Simin's versatility in his fighting style is awesome to see at the pace this was animated in. Definitely feel some of the speed from your Blind piece in this. Thanks for the upload too. Good to see you back.
Seeing Ash and Dawn from team DARK in a nice and peaceful environment is just too funny.
Just the Little details being applied. The expression, the character's small movements to not make them stiff, the way they fight. *The fact Obsidius uses his LEG to kick the Greatsword!* It of itself is such a clever way to increase the momentum of the swing. I've seen very few MMORPG games actually use that in they attack combos but when it appears, its glorious.
Let me not sleep on Simin, bro packed up some new toys and I won't let it slide. *Man came clutching up and he got my respect. I didn't see the stone shield coming. I thought he was gonna win when he plop that up but Obsidius yeeted him back!* Yeah it's cool to see your OC win but the to see them Lose is actually quite satisfying. A lot of animes and such will always have they character get a Power Up and Win the fight and that can be boring if repeating over and over. Simin going on the Defense at first and then going onto Offense makes sense as if he himself is analyzing his opponent.
Ik we ain't gonna get Episode 2 in a good while but... *Man this COOKING*

Man the current RWBY seasons really miss this kind of fight scene. Even if the animation is better it's this kind of fight choreography that made RWBY so great in the first place
Judgemental Critter made me watch this. And I love it. I want the purple oblivion space dog. It's adorable.
