Great content as always! My 4 year old daughter has just got into fishing thanks to you! She now wants to start a youtube channel called ‘Pikebusters’ after catching her first jack on our local canal last week lol. Just bought her a GoPro and a pack of softbaits for her birthday 😁
@@pikeandperch iv got a ultralight lure rod coming tomoz.. do you think it will handle any pike I come across? .. do you bump the ned rig along the bottom on retrieval
What kind of lures are you using, @@leafysfishing; big pike usually won't take smaller lures deliberately, unless you practically drop it on their nose. If you are unsure, Senan Stanley is an Irish fella who says very heavy flouro can work well, rather than a wire trace. The trick is to check it every few casts, and if there are any nicks or damage, replace it immediately.
@NobleKorhedron I actually started using thick fluorocarbon.... as it goes the rod and tigs handle any pike fine. Thanks for advice too. Not managed to do much fishing latley.
He's on the big lakes, @@leafysfishing, so he uses something like 100 lbs breaking strain flouro; so his leaders will be quite thick, which makes it easier to spot any nicks/damage.
Cracking perch buddy ...... that pike certainly took ya round the block !!! I thought the same and wonder if a big girl was chasing the one you had hooked !!! I can’t wait to get a days fishing for them stripeys !! ... hopefully in the next 2 weeks ,.... weathers picking up too ..... covid measures relaxing ... all is good ( for now ) !! All the best to you and the family and here’s to a good year hopefully 👍🏽👍🏽🎣🎣😀😀
The Ned rig will literally catch anything. It's even effective just swimming it. I would say that it's neck and neck with the curly tail grub as being one of the best fishing lures ever invented.
They're brilliant for catching wrasse at sea too. With a buried hook tip and a slight head-down slant, you can put them onto otherwise really snaggy and rocky seabed. Need rigs have caught me more wrasse than any other bait, and the takes can be beautifully violent.
Respectfully disagree, @Shurmash; I've had diddly squat on curly tails, and God knows I've tried them often enough... All my Wasps came on paddletails and spinners; the paddletails mainly came from Josh 'LureBoi' Richardson. The spinners were the little butterfly tail Rublex Ondex sizes 2 or 3, plus this little orange butterfly tail one I don't remember the brand of...
Bought a shit tonne of these baits about two years ago and never had any luck on them, used the Ned rig with z-man creature baits and had loads of perch. So strange how people get different results on the same gear. Still nothing beats micro spooning on the canal where I am the perch can’t resist them plus I get to make my own in the man shed 😬
I always make myself half a meter of swimming noodle on the handle from the net!! When he falls into the water then most of the handle looks out! Looks shit, but works for me! Very nice location there!
pike really do go for anything, i've had 9lb pike on a tiny 3cm fry lure, i've caught a 7lb pike which was spitting up a couple of freshly eaten fry in the net that i measured at 2cm long a few months ago I was cheese paste fishing for chub, after an hour with no bites i lifted up the rod and reeled in the cheese to see a small jack jump out and eat the ball of cheese, bit off the 4lb mono!
This is what most perch fishing sessions are like mate. It’s not like America where you can catch loads of nice perch/bass in a day. Perch over 2 lbs are rare. What made me quit lure fishin tbh. The canals are depressing af when you can’t find a bite, so open and u just don’t know where to catch
Exactly what happened to me the other day after four hours fishing hooked into a pike on the bfs five minute fight lost it at the edge gutted wasn't after pike but perch
@@makeorwellfictionagain3553 lol yep only my second time out with a baitcaster definitely a steep learning curve but fun that would of been my first fish on the BFS

Ned rig is how I got my PB perch. It does the business for sure
Pike love the Ned mate. The white and pink version are killer! Tight lines.
I think around this time something dragged across the bottom suits them. Haha cheers pal found it fitting of current times haha

Really love the Z-man lures , especially the bugz. Really durable and good value for money.

What net you have attached to your back early on in the video?
Looks ideal, i need a compact one like that!
Was you fishing a fluorocarbon leader or braid straight to jig thanks 😊
I've about given up on the NJ with perch, 1 fish in 5 3 hour trips. Been really frustrating
If ya havnt already then trying some big lob worms on a dropshot can be deadly for trickey perch
