  • This is my spring cleanup footage from this past weekend. Lots of good honest lawn and landscape domination! Some blowing, edging, weed whacking, pruning and of course, mowing!

    Applied Milorganite this spring and my yard is a nice dark green. So far, I am impressed. Took a little longer to green up compared to when I used synthetic fertilizers but my lawn looks healthier. Thanks!

    Tons of helpful info for a first time homeowner like me. Do you clean your own gutters too? I think that would be a good video idea.

      Shonda W I don't get anything in the gutters here since there are no trees as tall as the house (not many). But I did at my old house and I just used my blower.

    Living here in SoCal, I have not stopped mowing my lawn all year. I received a Toro Lawn Striper last Christmas and I love it. I was using my homemade lawn striper but the Toro is much better. My lawn may be getting a little browner this year due to the drought we are having, The Governor has mandated a 25% water cutback.

    • @mbilek5043
      @mbilek5043 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      xxh2obizxx I feel you pain with the water cutbacks. Be sure to look into Hunter MP Rotator Sprinkler Heads if you haven't already. They save you 30% on your water usage and most water districts are giving rebates when you replace your sprinkler heads. I just replaced all of mine and net cost was about $1 per head after rebate:) Be sure to change up your watering schedule, too. I recently changed to a cycle and soak schedule 3 days a week and my lawn is starting to take off!!:)

    Well, ya got me hooked man..never heard of you----->subscribed, and watched all your videos in one day haha..keep up the great work!. I have spent the last two years trying to figure out a good "method" to use on my yard (about 5,000 sq ft all together). I hydroseeded the front (1,800 sq ft) last year with Infernno Mix (about 60% bluegrass). While it is coming in great in some areas, other areas definitely need a kick in the rear to help it along. I've called a handful of places in town looking for Milorganite..unfortunately we don't have a Home Depot (Rapid City, SD)....just Menards who said they wont be getting any in this year I guess?...Lowe's, I'll need to stop in and check since they don't know how to use phones there..and Ace has 5 bags, but is by far the most expensive. I'm getting a late start this year, but plan on adapting your organic plan to my infant front yard from here forward...as well to the back yard. Two questions: 1) I need to overseed, but don't want it to be ruined by mowing over it later, should I just wait until my last cut/app in the fall? 2) I mow with my grass chute open. I notice you have yours down most of the time if not always. Is that just to help with lines or is there a benefit that I don't know of. Anyway, thanks for all the great material and I look forward to your future videos!

    Ok so I live in Florida and I work with my dad. He has his own landscaping business, he has been doing it for about 30 years. Here in Florida we do landscaping year round. How many times do you guys mow a year? My mind was blown when I saw that you only mowed like once. I'm just wondering thank you for the good video.

    • @Thelawncarenut
      @Thelawncarenut  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SonicofWars In NW Indiana the first cut came in april every year, and the last cut in November. For shrubs, they typically only trimmed 1x per year.

    Hey LCN, I hope your new homes lawn is a complete trainwreck just so I can see u fix it all up nice like. Question, what is the latest u would recommend overseeding or slitseeding here in Northwest Ct? Still too damn cold at night to risk seeding right now, but I'm dying to get my lawn in shape. Thanks.

    • @Thelawncarenut
      @Thelawncarenut  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Maccione I hope it's horrible too, otherwise it would be no fun! And for any seeding, you don't want to go too much into the end of May... it will get too hot too fast.

    Hey Allen I need your help. I have thousands of these things growing in my yard. They're the kind that stick to your pants and clothes. They feel soft and there about 3-4 inches high. Any idea what these might be? If there's any way I can show you a picture I would. What is the most efficient way to kill this many weeds throughout my entire backyard?

  • @mckenna8663
    @mckenna8663 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ok, I have a question. Now, after having a townhome (where the work was done for me), I have a single family....THUS, lawn work. VERY proud of my new lawn equipment! Do you suggest a thorough cleaning of the lawn mower's underside after EACH mowing? Or is it ok to do it every few times? If so - how often. I am not sure if it matters to the mower's performance...or wear.

    • @lawnboy1010
      @lawnboy1010 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mc Kenna It's best to clean the underside of the mower every couple mows or so. If the lawn was really wet when you mowed, scrape the built up grass off right after you are done mowing.

    Alan- which model edger do you have? Should I be using this in addition to my weed wacker?

    • @Thelawncarenut
      @Thelawncarenut  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Connolly I have an old John Deere edger attachment that goes on my Propane trimmer. You can use a weed whacker to edge and do very well - I'm just not that good at it so I prefer the blade.

    I always I use safety gloves for such work. The hand injury is inevitable when working tempo - without safety gloves.
