Alright, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the original, but since that’s what everyone is calling them I guess we’ll go with that. Anyways, tell Cayde, Saigra and Midnight Coup I miss them.

I don't think so either, if you look closely, the helmet on the titan doesn't match at all, it just kinda looks like it. The trailer one has some kind of horn wich doesn't take up much space. The Lightfall one has something similar, buuuut it covers much of the upper head in contrast and isn't as metallic.

They went from wearing standard vanilla D1 armour to the Taken King Vanguard sets across two trailers so it's not too farfetched an idea to think this could be them. Dramatically and thematically its certainly a good gut punch to think that it is

I find it comedic that we were hit harder by these random guardians dying than Rohan sacrificing himself for Neomuna.
We've seen them and known them for years, and then their gone, by just a flick of a finger. No one saw it coming.
I find both scenes rather impactful, while the former is for nostalgia, the other is an old soldier not only gave his life for neomuna but for Sol too

They may not be the one's shown in the live trailers, but they do represent the guardians we first see in the d1 class creation screen, armor and everything. So yeah, still sad to see a bit of d1 die.

These are literally just stand in guardians, woudlnt be surprised if we see the exact same guardian models die in years to come.

But they do represent the D1 Guardians in this situation.
Especially since we already had some parralels to D1 in the Trailer and the S19 Epilogue Cutscene (where those Guardians show up for the 1st time in D2).
To that, their armor looks literally nothing like what D2 Year-1 Armor looks like...

In the opening cutscene of d2 year 1 you are playing the destiny 1 guardians, you're even on the way back from the reef, and you're still reffered to as "The Guardian". And in the new light quest you're ressurected in the exact same spot, repair the exact same ship, and get the exact same khvostov.
Unless you mean the destiny 1 live action trailer guardians, who are in the taken king trailer and stuff, in which case they might be? I honestly dont know, and i dont think there is any way to know beyond speculation

The D2 year 1 "Red War" starting armor looked way different than the D1 starting armor with the differences being very noticeable between the titan getting the "brave titan armor" which gets damaged at the start in D2 year 1 and in D1 they had "light mail". The warlocks got "wise warlock" in D2 year 1 and they had "born spark" in D1. The hunters got "Daring hunter armor" in D2 year 1 and in D1 they got "prototype 0.9b".
But I do agree that the guys in the cutscene aren't our D1 guardians because then there wouldn't be a game.

So I'm a year late but it's revealed in Trials of Osiris lore that only the Titan, Reed, died. The Warlock and Hunter were Shayura and Aisha, who both managed to survive the encounter.
It's more gruesome that the guardian got sliced into pieces too. I didn't notice that at first.

I feel like the message of the Witness’ power was one of the few things that were conveyed in the best way. These guardians have such a rich story and have been through so much, but when they meet the Entity that commands the darkness, for all their power, they were destroyed in a second. It was such a good way to immediately establish the Witness as an intimidating thing both as just a voice and in combat.
Establish what? Magical shanannigans? The guy literally pointed at guardian and he died 😄 Why wouldnt he just did the same thing with main characters and finish this already? Because intro cutscene just continues from the same place after we did all that crap on Neomuna. Whole this time A-team just standed starring into the HELMs window while Witness literally chilling at the same place near the traveler. And all these main characters were frozen I guess while we were busy warring with Calus. Establishment my ass. Destiny story somehow manages to get worse and worse
@@ardour1587 Zavala himself said that they’re in no position to engage the enemy in the cutscene. I doubt he’d be the kind of person to risk more lives for a possibly pointless death, not even Caiatl was going to sentence her troops to die to those AA guns in that last mission. Plus, the HELM was damaged after that blast when the Pyramids surrounded the Traveller. They only opened their blast doors when the Veil hit the Witness, so they probably heard it and had ti see what had happened. But before they could act, the Witness opened the portal and disappeared.
Honestly, I think the Lightfall campaign canonically happened over maybe a couple of days, while the Witch Queen felt more like a month or something. There’s noting wrong with a fast paced story.

It is the SAME cutscene wich was splitted in two and filled with filler expansion about chacing some stupid magic artifact noone really cared to explain anything about it. Its not a story.Not to mention how Strand was meant to be in Witch Queen but instean you accidentaly bump on it on a street...literally xD Because they needed to fill Lightfall at least with something. Because even Bungie knew that it is a trash expansion.
These weren’t the trailer guardians, they were actually the select screen guardians from D1 and had a cameo in curse of Osiris and season of the dawn. Still, it’s pretty impactful seeing the first three guardians we ever saw getting demolished like that…

They ARE the D1 guardians, when you make your character in D1 it's their armor, they're on the box art too
The Titan's ghost is the one we had before losing our light... so I assume they are Pre-Red War Guardians.

The Season of the Deep trials rewards (Shell, Ship, and Sparrow) detail this event and aftermath. I recommend reading, but TLDR:
The Titan who got sliced apart by The Witness, with his Ghost, was Reed-7. The other two ships that got destroyed belonged to Shayura and Aisha. The latter two survived. Shayura is going through a far heavier than usual case of survivor's guilt and Aisha makes the trip to visit Sloane on Titan, as Aisha is shaken by the loss of Reed.
These three have their own story mostly within the Trials gear, and their names are used in the Trials SMG, LFR, and RFF Scout.
It ain't the og trailer boys, but what people don't realize is it's the D1 character selection screen crew. RIP

(Sadly, the Law of the Jungle team died, but the Become Legend+Evil's most wanted team are still alive somewhere)
Because the Law of the Jungle teak have a Male Warlock, whereas the Become Legend team has a female warlock
They guided us to the light together. They walked the surface of every planet we have, they where the first, the tip of the spear. Every obstacle that came up against the last city, they where out on the front lines as a fireteam. And when our largest threat arrived at our doorstep, did they back down? No! They where out front! Charging The Whisperer for all to see what it truly means to be a Guardian! And in our darkest hour, are greatest foe raised his hand only twice. Once was for the Traveler, and the second time, for these Heroes.
I was really hoping that their armor sets would be added to the Store or could earn in game. That Titan armor has always been one of my favorites.
They probably wont because the plating on og sets looked about 2 to 3 inches thick. Destiny 2 standard titan plating is at least 9 to 12 inches of plating, especially around the shoylders.
Apparently if the shoulders arnt as big as the helmet, D2 dont want none

I would really hope Bungie makes this canon that they were the first fireteam we saw in the trailers and give us a small side mission to honor them. Maybe even throw in their armor or just the class items. I probably wouldn't wear them, but there idea would be nice

I think it’s funny how I felt more moved in this single scene than I did in the entire lightfall campaign.
This was the day the first guardians ever seen by the community passed on. The legends these ones made (the players of D1) will live on forever. They may be gone, but their light remains. Honor our fallen brethren. May the light provide.

It already was unnerving to see the ghost just split into pieces like that, but I only just noticed that the _guardian_ does too. Like, it's not just the technology, the actual Guardians just deconstruct. That's fuckin' terrifying.

Man, the warlock was definetly my favorites in terms of design. I've always wanted the helmet, as it was my favorite piece, but I could never find one in d1. But the other guardians also look cool and the original designs will always be known as the OG drip imo

They will be remembered in the monument to the lost lights. And in the stories of legends.

Witness was just starring at Traveler that whole time and Zavala & Co were starring at Witness? 😄 By the time we finished with Calus he could wipe HELM with everyone on board + pretty much undo all fleet or something. I mean, if he is so STRONK! More redicilously powerful you build the antagonist more plotholes and nonscense you get. Lightfall is just an example of worst writing. Very lazy and very unimaginative.

I don’t think he is concerned about other guardians or even sees us as a threat and I don’t think other guardians would be so stupid to try that again knowing it would kill them for good. I don’t know if they’re canonically the same fire team but my headcanon is they are. I think bungie should make their armour sets obtainable in game or make them ornaments. I always loved that Titan helmet.

Alright I’m from the future and I’m here to say that I think this was Reed 7’s fireteam guys, the same team that Shayura (the traumatized Warlock) and Aisha were a part and got a good bit of lore of them from the trials weapons.
And I know this because I inspected the trials ship “Valiant Memory” and it seems pretty 1:1 with what happened to the fireteam in this cutscene.

Honestly, considering they were the first, it is sorta poetic that they would want to send what they in story considered the strongest in lore and end it with what they started in the studio...... Although just up and killing em like that without even us getting to meet em in game just feels wrong. Like, not even a nod to "some guys we know are on the case" or whatever..... Then again... The lore is built off of "You" killing all these gods n such, so it would be a bit of a story breaker if suddenly we find out that we didn't kill the gods but some rag tad group from years ago did.
Honestly I wouldn't mind that, maybe like a reboot to the story, where instead of having useless Vanguard its just the legit first Guardians we see who are seen in active battle with us from time to time teaching us through the years. Cut to some time, some DLCs and personal bonding cutscenes with the Guardian that matches your chosen path later. And we would have the most dramatic scene where they ACTUALLY put themselves in harms way to protect the Traveler by having each of the three activating some sort of Anime Protag Version of the original supers thought up by Bungie for each class (Like, THEE subclass super first thought of for each one) and have them die actually being close to victory but the light they had for so many years finally fades, and have what would be a beautiful ceremony for them.... Cut to what would basically be Destiny 1 where you are the new guy on top killing gods whilst the Vanguard act as more like base commanders than some hyped up jabronies who don't even walk out the door when needed most. XD
Next thing they need is a Voice Option for the Ghosts, but honestly having a large "Ghost" cast read out EVERY line imaginable would likely be difficult.
That’s just me thinking about the franchise. It went from an amazing game you had to buy to a free-to-play multiplayer pvp fps where you have to spend $384.89 to actually play the story that is currently available since Bungie decided it would a great idea to not only limit how many times you can play the original campaign, but they also removed the original Destiny 2 chapters
