Quite a few years ago, I attended a seminar by DeWitt Jones, a National Geographic photographer. He said that when he went out to do photography, if he went with attitude that he would look for what the world had to give him that day, he was allways rewarded with something that left him feeling successful. My attitude is that any day with a camera in my hand is infinitely better than a day without. Some days, I come back with a gift recorded on a card or film. Somedays, I come back with memories, but I always come back with a renewed spirit and a heart filled with gratitude. As John Muir said, " And into the woods I go, to lose my mind and find my soul."

100% agree. Success is when you meet of when you go beyond expectations. So there is 2 ways of succeeding: 1/ Meet of go beyond expectations and/or 2/ Lower your expectations Same applies to customers.
This happened to me yesterday. The first snow and ice of the late autumn and my photography let me down. The adventure in the woodland was wonderful, if a little cold. My wife and I had a great time...
This is exactly the kind of video I enjoy. Watching the adventure & also enjoying the photography. It’s more entertaining/identifiable (for me). I also really like the first-person b-roll camera. The “invisible cameraman” routine is tired. Everybody does it, ad nauseum. I understand why, but it’s still tired. Thanks for all the work you do to put these out. I appreciate it! Happy shooting! 👍🏻
I really appreciate your honesty, Joshua. When I gave up expectations, I began to enjoy whatever I've gotten with my exposures on any given day. They may or may not be outstanding, but they are the results of my efforts and that is an accomplishment. Getting out is hard because of various physical limitations, so anything is better than nothing. Please continue to produce these videos and to express yourself as you are at the moment. Nothing could be more real.😊
More please, no pressure for you no pressure to make everything perfect. Just be you !! carry on the way you are going as normal down to earth and truthful no bull in the vlogs just a normal day out that we can all say we have done.
Thank you Johsua, I always enjoy your videos. I like the way that you talk about photography, but I also get the impression that you may be a person who is always very hard on themself. I too am very hard on myself but I don't have a YT channel. So, I only see photography as a hobby and I only take photos to please me. If others liked my images, bonus extra. If people do not like my images, thank you anyway for taking the time to look at them. BTW I do like this type of video. FYI the "other You Tuber" also has great videos about their thoughts and approach to photography, but I am not a huge fan of their images.
This was like a fresh air to me, thank you for making this video and sharing it. Needed this type of content and wholesome talk. Got my dose of inspiration! Have a great time, where ever you may be!
I like this type of content. And I know it's difficult to film. All the big YT creator sites tell you to prepare everything in advance. Create even the thumbnail first before you record any video. But all the preparations and planning build high expectations which as you said you want to fulfill and it can ruin the whole adventure. I'm glad you enjoy the "vloggie" style. :) For me it is something I can relate to so I'm going to stick here.
I really enjoyed this video. Great story. You are continually telling us that the results don't matter. What is important is that you just get out there with your camera. It is so true >>>>
Excellent video. I try not to go out with big expectations. Also, I rarely go out on planned shoots. Both are surefire ways to go home disappointed. The vast majority of my best photos are ones that I just happened upon. That's not to say that I don't plan hikes or drives to some beautiful spots, I just generally see what pops up. That way if I get some good images then great. Otherwise, I still had a good day outdoors.
Photography adventures with a bit of photography tips and advice are perfect videos for me. Photography adventures are something i really wish I made more of a effort to do, bloody work and a addiction to cycling keep getting in the way 😂😂
Thank for your positivity, guidance to keep going out and make photography. This help me a lot to just take photography as an hobby and enjoying speeding time doing it.
I knew straight away who you were referring to re the power lines :-) As to whether I like these sorts of vids, yes. I enjoy seeing the areas in the UK I will never get to visit.
Thanks Joshua. Really enjoyed the style of video. I sensed for some time that you were not really ok so pleased that you have found your mojo. Look forward to future videos when you feel like presenting them to us.
Thanks Joshua! I'm guilty of the same thing - inflated expectations! Thank you for this video. Now I see that I am not alone. I'll have to mention it on my channel.
Excellent video as always Bro 👌its a good lesson that can be applied to life in general ie being realistic with our expectations avoids disappointment 👍
I really enjoy your videos, Joshua, regardless of how you do them. I feel that you put great thought into your content and it comes across as very real. And you always have a 'take away' for your viewers, a simple thought that can often make a world of difference. I live in Ireland and the winter this year has been very like yours in Wales. I too had to lower my expectations and just go out to enjoy my photography, and it worked. Glad you've got your mojo back. Looking forward to your next video.
Great views from up there... I popped up on my way to North Wales a few years ago... mind I have to say it was a sunny day not quite the wind swept visit you had..lol. You weather was great as I love mood pics and you deffo had them. Your excepations I think most togs can relate to.. what's the answer .. not sure what everyone else does but I just treat it as a day out... There is a view up that way I would love to find - its on the other side of the valley from Craig yr Aderyn.. Iolo was chatting to a couple of farmers up a valley and it was one of the best views of the Rock I have seen.. I should take my tent up there this year and explore.
What a pleasant surprise to see this video posted. I feared after your last video that you might be missing from TH-cam for a while. I thoroughly enjoy your honesty and creative endeavour.
Well done Joshua great to see you putting your expectations aside. Am so glad to see you putting out a video so soon again and it's great to see your energy and humour shining through. " FOCUS " on the positives. Im looking forward to your future adventures
Keep it going Sir. I love your. concept and the work you put for each video that you upload. Surely it's not easy with all the editing and logistics for each adventure. I just followed you on instagram too.
Loved the video Josh, I enjoy seeing the reality of photography-documenting where you visit-learning a little bit about Wales etc. I think you’re really good at that. Personally, I find videos on camera settings and gear a bit boring. I like you’re are being authentic and visiting places for an adventure, then seeing what pictures come as a result of it. Rather than the other way round. I really enjoyed your videos on time spent outdoors and the why. I say you do have what it takes - and would like to see more documentaries
I always just go out with my camera to see what happens, the problem is I know what is going to happen, I will end up at the pub 🤣 the joy of being retired !
Enjoyable. Not one word about gear but for the pesky tripod that cant stand up to the breeze. I know you are an outdoor landscaper for most part, but try documenting cityscape or street photography.
Sorry about wind noise through this video; it was brutal! 🌬️
I don't mind Joshua, beautiful surroundings, nature! Enjoyed it, thanks mate! 🤘📷Greetz Marco
There's much more wind noise outside at the moment. Don't worry about it!

I think these are your best type of videos, great scenery, great storytelling and always very honest about things👍

you're growing on me I enjoy your way of telling and appreciating the earth.
Enjoy your videos Joshua! Thank you for all the helpful tips 📷😎

You are a great storyteller, your videos are different and i enjoy very much watching them. Kudos from Portugal.

Who wouldn't like adventure photography videos? They're cool.
Definitely make more of these!
Beautiful photos! ❤ Totes ‘gree with your sayin’, low exceptions to experience unexpectedly fulfilling rewards.
Great photos. Very relaxing to watch . Keep up the great content
Nice photos!! Be careful with the wind and steep dropoffs!
