A Conversation with James Darren

- It is with great sadness that I post this episode today. James Darren was a multi-talented actor and singer. From his iconic roles as Moondoggie in the Gidget films of the 60’s to his starring roles in “The Guns of Navarone" and “T.J. Hooker,” along with his recurring role as Vic Fontaine in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” he wowed audiences around the world. Plus, with his Grammy nominated hit “Goodbye Cruel World,” he could do it all. And besides appearing on “Between the Lines” he was also a long-time friend.
He passed this morning leaving millions of adoring fans with heartbreak. My wife and I are amongst them.
In this episode we share so much of his kindness and talent that it should only bring back beautiful memories of this beautiful man.
Thank you for watching and please like and subscribe to our channel.

I loved James Darren. He was handsome, talented and a true gentleman. God bless him.
Couldn't agree more!
He was an ass..I'm my 20s I went to show in LA he was the guest...he came over and sat down next to my co-worker he looked at me and said..your ugly..such a gentleman... NOT..what an smug ass
When I was in my 20’s, I worked for a company in Beverly Hills. This job paid us weekly so I had to go to the nearby bank and stand in long lines to deposit my check. One day James Darren was in my line!! He was drop dead gorgeous! I loved the Gidget movies he did and now I was next to him! I wanted his autograph so bad! No one else seemed to notice him or just left him alone so I did as well. He had to be in his 40’s and still smoking hot. He was there alone, quietly just doing his banking like the rest of us and seemed like a really nice guy. To this day when I think about that encounter my heart melts .. he was that handsome!
He was a true gentleman
LUCKY YOU ! 😀
And you saw that handsomeness in person, up close. I'd be tongue-tied, too. 😀
@@mariegeorge8865. I definitely was!! 😮
I think you are right 😊@@deborahbishop3300
Thanks for this! I've always been a fan. James Darren is almost 80 years old in this video and still so handsome and vibrant. I grew up watching him - from the fun Gidget movies and especially The Time Tunnel series and The Guns of Navarone. Terrific singer! RIP Mr Darren.
So glad you enjoyed and so sorry for the loss of this fine gentleman
Why can’t women look that good at that age? So many female stars become almost unrecognizable with too much plastic surgery.
He was a talented gentleman, and you could tell he was a nice guy! I loved him in the "TIME TUNNEL" series!
He truly was a nice guy and loved him dearly
Thank you for sharing this, Barry, what a loss. Your conversation will help people understand more about this kind and multi-talented man.
That is my hope dear Anastasia

I really love James Darren! Dang. I will miss him on earth. What a void.😢
He was a TOTAL babe! Babealicious!
RIP dear James Darren. Loved your movies/tv show and singing the classics. Mostly loved you as a person. How handsome he is even later in life.
James Darren was the best actor of the teen idols hands down. They failed to mention JD's dramatic performance in Let No Man Write My Epitaph [1960] with Shelley Winters, Ricardo Montalban, and Burl Ives. As a child I was big fan of his in the Time Tunnel. I still have his autographed picture an dother photos the network sent me at my request, from that show. It was very sweet of them to send those photos to me, I was just a kid.
I always loved James Darren.
Me too and he was so goodlooking❤
Never Knew he was Jim Moret’s Father, from Inside Edition!
What a handsome guy he was. From "Gidget" through his whole career. He's a Teriffic singer and a really nice guy.
"Gidget Goes Hawaiian" is my favorite, followed by "Gidget Goes To Rome" & "Gidget." Met him several times over the years, at autograph shows. Always such a lovely guy!
beautiful interview, RIP James Darren , my heart is broken, good night Moondoggie
Mine is broken too dear nina.
I love his movies and he was a good looking gentleman.
How I loved Jimmy Darren! I am heartbroken that he has left us. Love❤
A few years back I was in my doctors waiting room and in walked James Darren. As I found out he knew my area of South Jersey very well because his parents had lived in Blackwood NJ..
I'm a Jersey boy too and James is one of the greats!
Rip Mr darren you were free of any scandals as others in entertainment singing , acting etc.

❤ James will be missed very much I loved him when he was playing in Gidget with Sandra Dee and he did another movie with Gidget goes Hawaii I think there was one more I can't remember the name I think it was something to do Italy I believe. I really loved and enjoyed him singing having fun actually I wish I was in the movie with him on the sidelines but he was such a nice guy. To his family sorry for your loss he was one of my favorites may he rest in peace God blessed him so amen
The song has ended, but the melody will be lingering for times I can't predict. Rest in Peace!😢
This was a great interview. My first time to visit your TH-cam channel, Barry. You did such a great job letting James Darren talk.. just leading him in conversation, asking questions about events in his life. but NOT INTERRUPTING him or finishing his sentences for him! Great interview! I am subscribing. ( I was one of those baby boomers in love with Moondoggie, even though he was 18 years older than me!).
Thank you for such kind words and for subscribing.
There will never be anyone like him. So much talent and good looks!
Amen!
RIP Moondoggie:(
So sad hearing this. He was a favorite and I will miss Moondoggie 💔😥
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍🏼😎HE SEEMS LIKE A VERY NICE GUY! SORRY TO HEAR THAT JAMES HAS PAST! VERY SAD.
A true gentleman!
I thought, I'd just pop over here for a minute, and the next thing I knew, I had watched the whole video. James Darren seems like such a lovely gentleman. Thank you, I've liked and subscribed...
What an awesome interview! RIP MoonDoggie
Thank you Mary. He was a true gentleman
I was born the same year as the original Gidget movie, and I grew up loving James Darren as Moondoggie. He was the ultimate to me! I was glad to know after I grew up that he was also a nice person. I'm glad he seemed to be so happy.
I had the pleasure of meeting James Darren at a Frankie Valli 4 Seasons concert a few years back. A true gentlemen, allowed a few pics and autograph. Rest In Peace and condolences 💐 to the family. A fantastic interview and thank you for posting.
Still LOVE THE TIME TUNNEL! Wish it would return.

@@mariegeorge8865 let's not forget Bobby Darren .
Genetics were on his side as he never aged!! Watched Gidget last night. RIP.
He was so beautiful as Moondoggie.💕
It's unreal how amazing he looks he looks so young and it doesn't look like he had any work done on his face
When I was a kid, I remembered him from a show called the time tunnel. Time. Got to meet him and he was such a gentleman very nice and a good influence in my life. Thank you very much.
Thought about how much I loved Gigit movies as a young girl because of James Darren’s Moondoggie so I looked online yesterday and was sad to read he died last week. RIP. Condolences to his family and friends and all of his admirers.
RIP James Darren🙏
Sad to hear he died Sept 2 at 88 years old. RIP. 🙏🏻
Gorgeous ❤️
So sorry to hear this unwelcome news of his passing . Disappointing that here in Australia James Darren's demise was unreported , especially as back in the early 60's he had several fine recordings that charted prominently here , most popularly , Goodbye Cruel World . Another of his releases which I thought meritorious , yet untypically underappreciated , was Pin A Medal
On Joey . The man had the ability to recognize a good song and also how to express it competently . Jame's , thank you for your artistic contribution , which is now your endearing legacy.
Glad you posted these online. I used to watch your show when I was in LA. But I missed some, and here they are posted. Great show then great show now.
Thank you Tim. hope you'll subscribe

Good conversation with James Darren. May he rest in peace.
Thank you. He was a true gentleman.
The other day my friend and I was just talking about him. She, like my sisters, had a crush on him. I always remarked how huge his head is.
Funny I never noticed that but did notice his boys seemed to have large heads. More room for talent I guess!
@@maxfricano5053 perhaps, which probably explains why he was never seen wearing hats. Lol
May he RIP❤
And thank you so much for posting this.
I'm heartbroken that he's gone. I always liked him, from 'Goodbye Cruel World' on out. Wish I'd seen more of him, but will check out more of his stuff now. RIP beautiful James Darren 💖

A great conversation with the late, great, James Ercolani aka James Darren.
Mr. Kibrick kicks ass.
Thank you my friend from Brazil

I think I fell in love with this guy when I was 7 years old. His photo was on a movie magazine cover & that set the measure for the rest of my life. There is something about the cadence of his speaking and singing voice that kind still makes me melt 60+ years later! ❤

When was this interview originally broadcast? How old was James here?
This was shot in 2015
@@BarryKibrickOfficial Thanks, that makes James 79 years old in this interview! He looks and sounds like he's in his mid to late - 50s. Amazing
He was probably my first crush when I was a little girl. He has always been the most handsome man in my book and always seemed like a wonderful man. And love his voice. Love you always, Moondoggy; rest in peace.
Thanks for this interview.
I was especially interested in his directing and how it occurred and how he got into it.
He was basically very good at everything.
He mentioned some great people like Rick Husky and Steve Cannell.
Funny Sir I was looking up Rick and couldn't even find any good pictures.
I love older television and would love to see you interview Rick Husky and others who are behind the scenes of these classic shows.
God bless you Jimmy Darren❤
I was obsessed with the GIDGET song. They were such an adorable couple.
I worked with him on T.J. Hooker. A funnier guy you will never meet.
A tender soul that enchanted everyone.
Not only handsome he was such a sweet down to earth man.
