Bastion is literally what a regular TCG player is, using probability, strategy and making decks around the meta to have the highest chance to win.
he doesn't need main character plot armor
Bastion is closer to an actual meta TCG player. He has several decks instead of relying on one specific deck to win, each of them most likely contain cards that can help them overcome opposing threats the opponent might have ready. He considers what he has available wisely before summoning and attacking head on. Most importantly, he's not afraid of taking risks that involve losing Life Points in order to give him a better field advantage. He just falls short of being able to defeat opponents who tend to use random strategies or don't play under a single guideline. Chazz usually is an all-out offensive duelist, so someone like Bastion and Jaden who can be both offensive and defensive duelists at the same time are great opponents.
nah, Jaden is also relatable not only for Hero players but in general though - not even imo -.... and Bastion is annoying to me exactly for hat reason, reminds me of yugitubing which imo kinda sucks a lot of the heart YGO once had with so much meta snoobism and annoying card math thinking - like OMG I GET IT, your plus something deck rules with your engine and crap, just LET ME play competitvely with my Tier 2 stuff using my own twist, OK -, YGO even irl is not really all about math science and stuff, that's just a kind of player in the playerbase with a particular mindset, the - Jadens -, the - Joeys - the - Yugis - and specially - CHAZZ - if you know what i mean are also competitve, all you need to know in this game is knowing your techs and polishing your consistency with the cards you know tought, not to mention side decking and knowing meta weaknesses...
and sorry for my lil rant there lol.
I think Zane is the closest to a TCG player. Since he plays a deck that could be consistent in real life. During that time the cards were released in the tcg
@@bitrel07 Bastion's problem is admittingly that he relies on preparations against his opponents. Someone very unorthodox would be troublesome for him so perhaps that was the purpose of his new deck, which had a couple of the new Element ______ monsters. I definitely like him more than Kaiba
You know what? This is the one thing I really enjoy about watching this episode. Even though I may not be much of a mathematician or anything, but the way he creates duel formulas for Monsters, Spells, and Traps, it really lifts my spirits. In other words, thinking strategically and studying carefully.

Why I didn't like the fact the second half of S2 onward is just Duel Monsters again.
@@shis1988 and then season 4 put everything back into perspective with everyone having to buckle down on their life goals, the anxiety from the uncertainty about the future, Crowler not wanting anyone to graduate and therefore leave, Jaden recovering what made him a great duelist, and so much more. Season 4 was actually really good and completed GX.
What I love about GX is that even the filler is a good time

We got Duel monsters back with DSOD, and it was awesome for the most part, especially Kaiba, so it would be nice to see how Jaden is doing nowadays in like 3-5 years in the future, instead of somehow floating around Venice.

How I miss this Bastion. He was the "opposite of Jaden" in so many ways. He used logic, probability, statistics and even other sciences to build his decks and devise strategies that allowed him to outsmart tough opponents and win in the end. Jaden, on the other hand, followed his heart and completely trusted his deck and specially winged kuriboh to back him up and help him overcome the most unlikely no win situations. I believe bastion was given a less important role in the series when Chazz stopped being an elitist snob and relatively became a "nicer snob" and one of jadens most important friends. Even then a character like Bastion deserved better.

I agree. Bastion could have been an amazing rival for Jaden, but I guess Chazz did kinda steal that role. Not that I'm mad, since Chazz is a really charismatic character, but it would have been interesting to see Bastion in a more important role XD

I still think that Kaiba should be sued for the horrible living arrangements for Slithers Ra and Obelisk get proper meals and a proper home, the Slithers have to live in a shack and only get rice and Sardines for food.

I love how, especially in this first season, characters like Zane and Bastion are made out to be these incredible, OP duelists, who had everything planned from the second they drew their first card, because they actually employ basic IRL deck building strategies like using effects to search for key cards, working towards a specific deck boss, and having critical cards for hand recovery, instead of being reliant on random chance like the majority of the cast.
I suppose in a weird way, it's why they come across as so smart, because they might be only characters in the show who are employing a full game plan for a duel.
which is why its so annoying they stopped focusing on them. they had serious potential for dueling and story lines. Zane did for a bit but ultimately got sided in the end.
@@thanoseid2883Realistically, Zane graduated so his story was pretty much over, Aster was introduced, as the superior duelist. Then in season 3 they got some of the best character development you could ask for! they both went from Anti hero's to the main protagonist for a few episodes.

Bastion is like Jaden and Syrus' cool older brother. He's honest, respectful, humble, intelligent, generous, resourceful and is one of the few genuinely kind characters who never put anybody down or made fun of them because of their dueling abilities.
He asks Jaden and Syrus to paint his room and rewards them well for it, he loses his deck but doesn't complain and accepts his loss, made short work of Chazz with a completley different deck and refused promotion to Obelisk Blue when he won until he could prove himself by beating the best freshman at duel academy which he acknowledged to be Jaden.
It's a shame that his character isn't given much past Season 1, it would have been cool to see him evolve into a truly great character.

They cut a scene! In the original version Bastion didn't choose his Deck randomly, but chose the Water Deck because Chazz himself said he would beat him with Fire: that's why Bastion decided to use a Deck with Water Dragon, knowing it would give him the edge over FIRE Monsters.

Yet Seto Kaiba lost to Yugi and pretty much lost most of his honor and nearly his company as well if it weren’t for Yugi Seto Kaiba would have lost it all and he only has most of everything except his spot as number 1 and his honor although he lost it the moment he ripped up Yugi’s grandpa’s Blue-Eyes White Dragon but finally redeemed himself around season 3 to 5.
The professor says Chazz is a loser for getting defeated by Jaden even though he also LOST in the first episode 🙄🙄

The Duel Between Bastion and Chazz, in my opinion, proves why WATER can be a very powerful element.

I hated how they made Chazz such a weakling at first since he was a badass in the manga. But his character development in the anime made him my favourite yugioh character ever, he's a really well done character

5:16 to 7:40 is the most wholesome moment in GX Season 1.
Chazz throws away Bastion's cards. At that point, Bastion brings his bomb suit to the duel.
If I was Bastion, instead of saying, "This one's coming in red hot." , I'd have gone for something along the lines of "I hope you're ready for my Blaze Cannon Pitch, Jaden." Hit like if you get the joke. Side note, how hard was Bastion swinging that bat for Crowler to be sent flying like that?

@@cruz5531 Indeed. Kaiba has such a boner for Obelisk that he ended up ranking Obelisk Blue as the highest. I guess since Slifer was Yugi's first owned Egyptian God, he decided to rank it the lowest. And we all know how Kaiba feels about Yugi.
Thats probably because Ra is where the normal people go who don't have giant egos so they don't walk around acting all Superior to everyone else, so they don't stand out as much as the other dorms.

Bastion was one of my favorite characters from this series and yet he got done so wrong. He didn’t even get to graduate alongside the others

I actually prefer the first season of gx to the later ones. I found the more lighthearted nature to be charming, and the surprisingly decent quality of the dub made it all the more fun.

I do feel like Crowler's words about Chazz doesn't belong up there would hold more weight if we saw Chazz lose to someone else as well as Jaden, because then he could say "But you don't belong up there Chazz, your dueling performance has been Lackluster at best, and you have been losing to lower ranked students, which is unbecoming of an Obelisk! Tomorrow, you will have an evaluation duel with Bastion Misawa, and if you lose, you will switch dorms!" I feel that would have been better, and make more sense for Crowler to do this to Chazz. What does everyone else think?

"I won't be a Ra!" Chazz you goober, Ra is quite literally just a single step down. Also Bastion seems to me like the kind of guy who solves formulas for fun even if it has nothing to do with dueling.
And isn't Ra the most powerful Duel Monster in the game at the time of their Era soooo what does Chazz have to worry about he'd be representing a a God that's most powerful than Slifer and Obelisk combined(Anime wise anyway)

Well, what do you expect from a guy who's constantly under pressure from his overachieving brothers to be the absolute best there is? In fact, most of the times Chazz loses, it's because something is holding him back, like his brothers or his obsession with defeating Jaden.

i always found it interesting the blues were the top dualist in the school, yet red and yellow beat them multiple times, jaden beat how many and even went toe to woe with zane more then once, tho he never beat zane he did give him a good run for his money each time.
In the first or second episode, Chumley explains to Jaden how the school is divided into colors, but he says some people get into blue because of connections, much like real life. I believe that Zane earned his blue, while Chazz didn't, since his family is influential and wealthy. But agreed! Jaden is simply just a different breed, hahaha.

@@Gianbear actually Chaz probably did earn his blue because not a lot of duelist could beat him in a duel. But since he’s also rich that sealed him into blue dorm.

Did anyone notice that bastion still didn't prove chazz threw his cards in the ocean? Lol all bastion proved wit the equation on his card is that his cards were in the ocean not who actually threw them there. Up until chazz admitted it lol

Alexis was a witness. The formula is an equation he wrote on the card and because Chazz isn’t anywhere close to bastion in mathematics there’s no way those could have been his own cards. Plus, Bastion even said “ I suppose you could’ve written but the math would have probably been wrong and it’s not “

I like Bastion. He strikes me as a good one to go to if you want to just start out dueling. Granted you're going to have to sit through some seriously long lectures on deck building, side boards and when to do what is best.
I don't know if my decks would be a fit for his scientific styles, most are kinda either mismatched together out of stuff I think will work together or power heavy focused decks lots of dragons.
Now where can I see more plots like this? Just simple character growth & duels being down to earth rivalries among friends’ not everyone wants to rule the world guys!

Me: this is coming from the guy who lost to Jaden, who had half of his life points remaining by the end of the duel. Plus, this guy saw Alexis lose to Jaden, too. Only 1 obelisk had defeated Jaden in a duel. Hell, I think that was the only duel where an obelisk was able to beat a slifer ever. The amount of hypocrisy is so bad, that I legitimately feel bad for Chazz getting laughed at.
And even that loss was the only one. People underestimate Slyphers because of the ranking system. But we gotta remember who owns the school; Seto Kaiba. He held the Egyptian god card Obelisk the Tormentor in his deck ( before giving it to Yugi)so it’s likely an homage ( The winged Dragon Of Ra is the strongest of the Egyptian gods). Chazz, like Kaiba, is all about power and status.
And technically, Jaden earned a Promotion to RA Yellow and refused. Even Zane knew Jaden was his only equal. Crowler was just humiliated because he couldn’t break Jadens spirit.
