(ENG) Toyota Prius+ / Prius V 2015 - Test Drive and Review

  • Toyota Prius comes in different flavours. There is an ordinary Prius, a plug-in hybrid, and a seven-seater minivan - Prius+ (or Prius v in some markets). Toyota Prius+ is about efficiency and added practicality. But with other seven-seater MPVs on the market, is it the best choice?

    All you people who complain about the driving performance of the Prius make me laugh when you talk about what you drive or what you prefer. This is a damn fine car, with lots of room, looks great and gets fantastic mileage.How can the reviewer say it looks like crap? Do you think the Kia Rondo looks crap? I do. Looks are a personal thing.........who cares what you like. The problem with reviewers now a days is they know NOTHING about vehicles.The PriusV is not for me but then the Fusion or Sonata hybrid is not for me either.Buy what you like after researching and listening to someone other than this clown who has so many preconceived notions.

      Totally agree. I think it looks just fine and the review is based on the popular petrolhead anti prius opinion. the prius is perfect for a certain market segment and would be a hell of a lot more reliable that a lot of the other scrap on the market.

    In Berlin a lot of Prius+ are used as taxis. Taxi companies are switching more and more from Mercedes to Prius+, because they are amazingly reliable. 500k+ km without any issues, just maintenance services speak for itself. Yes, they may be boring to drive but many people prefer reliability and low fuel consumption over driving fun.

Much easier to see out of and love the more normal hatch compared with regular Prius. Almost as much cargo area as the CRV we sold after owning the Prius v. Compare to KIA? Are you joking? CVT in this car is something you really have to get used to, but, 90% of the time you get an incredible smooth ride. I had a Chrysler Neon (200 Kms/h, 132 CV) and it was great, but, Where can you drive so fast? Prius is the opposite, it's about relaxing and enjoying the silence. But, if you need power, it has it, it's not the fastest car, but 0-100 kms/h. in 10 secs. is more than enough for me.
    Btw, you don't have to break always, you have the "B" position.
    I'm pretty sure my next car will be another hybrid one.

    I think the Toyota HSD (Hybrid Synergy Drive) Cars are the most missunderstood Cars ever. I hear and read all the time the same.... Its makes Noise when you kick the gas it has not the gasmilage it says etc.... I own a Toyota Auris Hybrid and its a damn good car. If you drive it like a pig and kick it all the time you got wierd noises and low gasmilages thats right. It would be the same to kick down the pedal in a handshifter an bring the motor to 5k rotation untill you shift all the time. You would have low gas milage and loud motor noises. The Car is meant to driven in the carefull way. Yes you are slower than others but you using the half of the gasoline in the same time. Im driving my Car under 5 Liters on 100 Km in the City and i could go further down but sometime you dont want to be the slow snail thats in the way. But that dont means that you are slow. it just means, that all other Drivers in the City are fast even if its totaly inefficient to step on gas if you already see the next red traffic lights.
    The HSD ist such a big step into the future. But it seams that not just better technics sell cars. Because many People dont drive cars to get from A to B. They use them to show others how cool they are or who is the boss. As long this kind of people make this kind of videos here.... the change in the minds of the people will be slow. We dont own unlimited gas on this planet. Hybrids are no solution but a good step into the right direction.

    This Video was taken in 2015 before the Dieselgate scandal showed how "good" Diseasels actually are^^. Therefore it has to fit in with the other media reviews, thus bashing the Prius wherever possible.
    Now in 2017, what to say? I own a Prius III myself and it's a great car, fun to drive, lots of room inside and definetely more pleasant to see than all of those Failwagen Golfs or Passats. I also don't need a Diesel to achieve 4.8L/100km during Autobahn long distance travel.

    5:36 if you want drive fast, then you should buy another car. It is not a race car.
    It’s not true that the prius does not drive comfortable.
    It’s a damn good and comfortable car to drive especially when you drive for millllllllessss.
    I drive around 80.000km a year in a business verson of the prius V, And i love this car.
    Fuel costs are good ( my driving style is around 17/18/19km per Liter gasoline) driving very comfortable. Very relaxing.
    -Mostly my top speed (constant) on the freeway is140-150km/hour. And this is good enough for me.
    Going faster is possible..but let be honest then it would not be safe anymore.
    (Be responsible driver on the road)
    Also the maintenance costs of Toyota are very low! Extremely good.
    So if you Compare this with all other European and American cars..most of those EU/US cars sucks.
    Overall about the prius V.
    - low fuel costs
    - low maintenance costs
    - comfortable car
    - very reliable family and business car
    - lots off space for cargo and passengers

    Currentlywe have a leased Ford B-max, and for the price, it's an amazing little thing. The space, the sliding doors and the still while-less-than C-max boot size makes more than enough for a good car for starting families in cities and on roads alike.
    As for the prius series... I feel the same was as you do man.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ReplicaSeven I tested the B-Max shortly after it was launched. The price tag was outrageous. I love the sliding doors, but I am concerned about the bundle of cables at the bottom. I know you are leasing it, but how much is the sticker price for a mid-spec B-Max wherever you live?

    • @ReplicaSeven
      @ReplicaSeven 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marek Drives The version we have (titanium diesel) comes at about 17000 (it's normally around 21k but for some reason everyone here in beligum gives a 4k reduction) euros in Belgium, which I find quite alright. (the 21k price tag however steep, wouldn't scare me off) The cheapest B-max comes at about 12,500 if I remember corectly.
      I'd like to add that this is our second B-max, the first one we had was the very fist B-max on the market, and possibly one of the first ones that was sold in europe, but that one was somehow actually quite loud on the highway, and it had a glitch in the system that made the windows roll down after they rolled up all the way, but this one does not. We'll soon be switching it for a Ford Ecosport Titanium Diesel (can you see the pattern here) and we'll see how that one is. My exerience with the B-max has been alright, I can't stand it personally but I love it's potential. I respect that it's such a capable little machine for the (opinion) low price it comes at.

      +ReplicaSeven I agree. B max is great for my 4 persons family. sliding doors are a big hit and save massive amount of space. very practical to seat babies in the car without hurting your back. I got my bmax titanium automatic 1.6 petrol one year old for 14k fully loaded incl panoramic roof and tidy pack. its an amazing small car easy to park but with more space inside than ford focus! I hated my focus for lack of space. The only problem is Ford starts to suck big time. It fails on electrics a lot. there is something seriously wrong with fords electric department. Almost like they do not invest any money and just hire students to do the job. For that reason I hate Ford and I am getting read of them for good switching for BMW. my next car BMW SERIES 2 Grand Tour. FORD SUCKS!

    • @ReplicaSeven
      @ReplicaSeven 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Luck z Well, to start, saying that ford sucks just because of the electronical issues is a wrong way to go man. Many modern cars are too reliant on electronical application for the sake of comfort enhancement. It is not only Ford that has regular issues in electronical failure, in fact, Toyota themselves have a bad reputation for electronical failures.
      Congratulations on choosing the BWM 2 Grand Tourer! It's a pretty good car, yet lacking somwhere in transmission. However, keep in mind that you're switching a 16,000 car for a 26,000 car. By all means it should be the worth of ten thousand euros better, and therefore should be uncomparable towards the Bmax.

      I'm going to hope you're genuinely asking for an honest critique, but to answer in part already, it's not how I feel and that's the problem. It is what it is, and what it isn't.
      If you are someone people know, and you have a certain persona you're trying to exude that your specific audience watches you for, then playing it as you have with your blatant opinions on the vehicle and the extreme casual, man-cave way of dressing was dead on.
      It's clear you tried hard to give base information, and highlighted what you did like, but also acclaiming your feelings on how it looks creates an immediate gut reaction of offense since not everyone finds that to be true.
      As you were driving, your "feelings" on the matter had become much more clear and based on what you prefer to drive vs the actual driving experience of the car, unbiased.
      I, as many others, have a different experience when driving than you do. Focusing on efficiency is nearly the main reason why the majority get a prius. If you were hoping for something different then pretending to fall asleep is just in poor taste.
      I started to show another person to be sure it wasn't just me, and they stopped watching after you "fell asleep" because you made very little sense by doing so. It was showing your feelings, not giving a true review on a prius for what it actually does well, and why people actually buy it. They also commented on the faces you kept making, smooshing your mouth together in disapproval... that's their addition.
      The production was very nice, I was actually quite impressed, much better than any of the dealer reviews I had seen before this one. Your demeanor over all was fine, for my viewing comfort, with the exceptions noted above.
      Thank you for actually reading your comments!

      Jodie Hatcher Thanks for sharing your opinion. Point(s) taken. Yes, I read all the comments, and try to address most of them. I suppose you hoped for a balanced good points/bad points review. And you found that.
      However as this is TH-cam, most viewers expect something more. I cannot offer tire screeching and smoking videos (lots more people and gear needed for that), so I do my best showing them how I actually feel about a car. This part may not be relevant to you, who is looking for simple plus/minus information, but it is what keeps many people coming back for more, for entertainment of sort, even if they are not planning to buy a particular car.
      As a single episode taken out of context you may have found my take on the Prius crass and offensive. But as many of my viewers know, I actually love EVs and hybrids, as long as they provide some basic driving pleasure. And Prius (regular, + and PHEV) are lacking in that department.
      I haven't driven the new Prius yet, but from what I gather Toyota has tried to address that lifelessness so many people complained about. I hope you will come back to watch that review once I film it. Who knows, maybe I'll even be overly enthusiastic about how it drives and feels ;)

    There's another downside I can identify. No rear air vents. But some will not mind and install their own blowers

    I am curious to know how one can get BMW gran tourer for 30Grand!!!. You got to add another 10grand to even get close to it.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm over-stretching it a bit here, but a base 216i Gran Tourer starts at 27k. I added professional sat nav, convenience package, picnic tables etc., 3rd row of seats, and it's 32,320 in Germany. OK, 216i comes only with manual transmission. Automatic means a more powerful engine, and extra costs. But if you want a 7-seater 2 Series Gran Tourer for around 30k euro, it is possible without buying a totally basic car. I guess it may vary from market to market. For my English reviews I use German prices.

      ***** Right, and the Prius+ costs 35,595 euro, which is not exactly cheap either.
      Are all cars so expensive in Ireland compared to Continental Europe? Any particular reason?

    Just the amount of metal used just to make this pointless vehicle makes my eyes water. Why not make some more leg chains for life sentenced criminals or missiles for Ukraine solders? That would make more sense.
