- Look familiar? This was THE designer bag trend was huge in 2017...then we left it behind and now in 2024 this handbag trend has reared it's head. Bag charms are having a moment but in a different way that we saw in the 2000's, so I'm breaking down the different ways we're seeing people interpret this designer bag trend and some recommendations too...ENJOY!

I just had to say that I love how Jane Birkin USED her bag and it was messy and experienced 'real life' with her. I think that's how they/any bag should be used, enjoyed and show signs of living a fabulous life.

love this trend so much, the way someone personalises their bag really shows a little bit of their personality in their handbags and its so so cute!! The mini kellys on the big kellys have me obsessed but i've been told by my SA that they go for around $3.5k 😭😭

I worked for a woman whose house was worth £3-4 million and guess what. Her bag was purchased at *preluxscom* . What did I learn from her. You don't have to have the real one, as long as it looks accurate and I have money in the bank. I used to buy genuine products until I realized I didn't need to waste my money
Not a fan of adding any unnecessary weight to any of my bags. Reminded me the old times phone charms trend where people have all those charms even bigger than the phone itself 😅

Interestingly, that in a *preluxz* , the inside sewing at the handles is more carefully made (leather is not so frayed), than in the original one.
No ma’am! The only bag I ever had toys and charms hanging from was my diaper bag - and it was a necessity !!! Unless I’m traveling with a tot……NEVER on my $3000 leather bag !!!

I like to study the ingredients when buying things. I bought a Fendi bag and its replica *esluxscom* . Their ingredients are very similar, so I don’t distinguish between them and only look at the appearance.
I'm obsessed with this trend! I've always loved and collected all these plush charms (Sanrio or anime ones) and hung them or placed them on display in my room but now that the trend is back with full force I've definitely been hanging and adding more and more to my bags. I initially added one to each of my designer bags but now with the trend ramping up (esp with y2k revival in the past few years) it felt so right to hang fluffy charms off my LV Pochette Accessoires and Celine Ava. Really added to the bimbo/y2k look. And then for my summery basket/raffia Loewe bags I tied a scarf or a ribbon with the Hawaiian Hello Kitty charm. It is a really fun way to personalise your bags esp if you have a bag that a lot of people have. (Like an LV speedy, Miss Dior etc). Also my friend did splurge on both the Tyler the Creator LV mini speedy bag charm because she wanted one of his pieces from the collection and she also got the Fendi Fortune Teller charm that was just released when were holidaying in Seoul.

I enjoy bag charms, it gives the bag (depending on the bag) personality especially in a world where everyone has the same bag 😂
I watched either a TikTok or TH-cam video yesterday featuring Isaac Mizrahi. He keeps his bags in a jumble-y mess, including his Birkins … and he reminded us with a photo of how Jane Birkin used the hell out of her bag and filled it to overflowing. Just today my husband sent me a link to an article with the ceo of Rolex telling people not to be precious with their watches … to wear and enjoy them and not treat them solely as investments. I know he said this in part because resellers are buying all the watches and not leaving them for real customers who want to take their $20k into a store and come out with a Rolex, but he has a point.
Together this flipped a switch in my brain. I am no longer going to treat my bags like they are children with hemophilia. I started today when I ran errands. Very freeing. Yes, we spend a lot on bags, but they are meant to be used as bags. I don’t mean we should put them out in the rain, but there is something to be said for using the things we buy. If bought solely for display, fine, but Hermes became Hermes by selling saddles. They make good and durable products, as do many other brands that are not Chanel. If that means I can never sell a bag for cash, I didn’t buy them to do that. I would rather use up my best bags, which is what they were intended for in the first place.

As a clean aesthetic girl, surprisingly I like this, especially the personalized pet clochette charms, and am in love with the Loewe leather anagram and the heart stoppingly cute felts. I have the koala on my raffia Loewe tote, and it makes me smile. The trend is a clever way to personalize without permanence, especially if you’re someone who likes to sell your bags on after a certain time. I’d be cautious about metal charms in terms of scratching the leather, but I just love to watch people’s creativity walk by me on the street! Good morning, lovely girl. I’ve missed being here. ❤

I always liked bag charms because it does give bags a nice little "extra-ness" or personality and I am always here for that. But sometimes when there's a bunch of charms just dangling around on a bag it reminds me of a fringe bag lol or a coat rack with too many coats on it with 2 or more coats on each hook. Or a pair of crocs with jibbitz/charms lol. Great video today Cassie!!

Cassie's micro orange Jacquemus may finally see the light of day as a bag charm! 🙌 Haha this trend is so cute, but fair warning as someone who engaged in the original trend, if you take public transportation or are actually a clean girl's opposite and just sling your bag around full of junk, the sides will inevitably bang or snag against something and all your charms will tragically remove themselves in the most dramatic way possible, so keep a close eye on them lol

I’m all for this trend. I bought the fortune charm for my origami, it looks so fun and awesome hanging off of it. There’s a latte charm in the winter collection that I want.

I’ve always liked accessorizing bags with scarfs tied on the handle. I do occasionally buy charms if something catches my eye. What I don’t follow are trends and loading a bag down with stuff due to a trend is ridiculous. But to each their own! I will say the Chrome Heart is something I will look into! I’m old enough to be able to remember fashion trends that I participated in and then seeing them make their way back around, and now with the bags and bag charms circling back… the ODD in me snickers now that I can say ha, see, I knew there’d be a good reason to store all my old crap instead of getting rid of it. Now I’m double on trend with the trend itself and the now vintage things that I never got rid of 😂
I have been putting keepsakes and my own made "charms" on my bags, since the early 2000's. I used to hang things on the OG Fendi baguettes, then. I remember I got a Hello Kitty toy in a McDonalds kids meal... I attached a ring to it, and hung it on my baguettes. Loved it when this trend started a few years ago, and now is back. I came across people that told me "that cheapens your designer bag" I am like girl, look the other way then. LOL. I do find it to be as a way to express yourself and personalize your things, and is fun. Is like playing dress up on your purse, backpack etc! Great topic!

Yeah, I can’t see myself hanging anything off of my Birkins I am so careful with them. I'm pretty sure I still have a box full of my bag charms from the 2000s back at my parents house. Maybe I'll give it a look.
I do think it's fun to take the bags less seriously and I enjoy seeing how other people accessorize them. For me, the enjoyment comes from the sound of a bag charm, so I'm more interested in a bag chain charm like the Breloque rather than adding multiple things, or fluffy stuff. I don't even like the look of the clochette worn on a bag really, but more metal is always ok with me.

This is the fight back from the quiet luxury trip that many folk have been on. Trends tend to swing from one extreme to the other. Minimalism to maximalism

Hi Cassie ❤. I did'nt like charms at first, because of that late 2000's jingle jangle charm nonsense. I hated those. I preferred just showing the plain leather. Then, I kind of started liking the twilly. I just like certain ones. I love the Dior patterns. I like the Hermes and Hermes-like ones. Then the rodeo charm began to grow on me. I like the horsie and the pegasus. Currently, I am looking for gold tone initials, and a lucky Japanese cat (one paw up). No fur. No jingle jangle. No pearl straps. No camelias (maybe a camellia)! Mmm, the Oran is cute too. 😉

I don't know. I'm not opposed to it. I occasionally had charms on my LV canvas bags but not on leather bc I have always been afraid of scratching/rubbing.

The extra chain across the front of the bag reminded me of the watch chain worn across a man’s vest, so the wouldn’t drop it when checking the time. They also put watch fobs on the chain for decoration. Fun.
Oh, dear.....all of these charms dangling off of bags. Yikes! I have one small, leather Loewe fish charm on one of my Puzzles, but that's all. I'm not one for a bunch of dangling charms on my handbags and personally, I would never put any metal charms on any of my bags to bang against the leather.
