Thanks for keeping the top 10 up to date. The technology is very impressive. My most successful lure to date has been a yo zuri crystal minnow, however for distance casting (if distance really matters) it goes to the SG Pencil. That said I've recently used the Razor Claw minnow patterns 28g, and they cast to the horizon with impressive accuracy. Now they must sink like a brick and can get snagged, which is why I use inline singles with an alternating retrieve. Cost? Less than £2. So why not have a super cheap top 10? Of course I could do it but if I did it would be the worst thing on TH-cam. 👏⚽
Paul I really like your comments here. Lots to consider 1. The pencil was one to consider too but if I lived in the south west. 2. I’ve started the cheaply top 10. 3. Will check out the razor claw 4. Thanks
High Matt, thanks for the reply 👍 It's not a confidence thing, full of that, guess the fish just weren't around when I was fishing. I think it was probably more a question of will the lures still work under certain conditions ? ie, a more visual lure in clear water working well, still having just as good a result in merky water and visa versa. Have you noticed or made any notes on any particular points in the tide, when results might be best ? Low-up or high-down. No matter what, will still keep plugging away ( no pun intended) As partly down to you I now have a new rod and several new lures to try. Although a seasoned angler, I am giving the Favourite cobalt blue a whirl, and yes leader knot is a bit techy on/ in the top guids. Needs gentle coxing. All the best. Les.
We all have our favourites, that's for sure! I agree with many of your choices, well picked! The one that would cause me to make space in your lure box would undoubtedly be the Tackle House Feed Shallow 128 in colour Pearl Rainbow AGH. But it's not for those of us that are skrimpy.
I have been a dedicated bait fisherman for 55 years, bass and cod the main targets, because i fish around the south wales area, and the Bristol channel comes with a special set of problems (dirty water, fast tide rip) but have rod will travel, and i am going to give it a go on lures this summer around Devon, so thanks for the review on the lures very helpful, especially as they cost so much.
Yes , do you rate them 😂😂? I should really use them more Wayne ! Like the single hook option and along side the shads a go to for piers and breakwaters
Loverly selection of lures. I always dread losing them, and I lost my zonk a couple of weeks ago! (Replaced already) I did contemplate stripping off and going in, but was early and bloody cold. Did manage a 4lb 8oz beauty though, on a Dr Fish sub surface, I like them a lot, especially the price. 6 lures for £18. Also recently using storm Shad weedless, I love them , cast well, great action and managed several follow ins before latching a 4lb fish right under my feet! Water was dirty, and the Shad was dark brown! Really like the vids and tips Matt. Thanks 👍
Hi Matt, as usual great vid… I plan to get out just before first light in the morning. Use some of you recommendations. Mostly surface and weedless soft’s…. Like the weather at the moment stormy and overcast gives me more confidence as it gets light. Roll on 20k … and hopefully a chance for another rod! B
Well you asked about other lures and one I would never be without is the ABU Koster 28g in silver,It seems to be the perfect sprat immitation and will catch mackerel when nothing else will and accounted for my biggest PB bass
My 1st lure out of the box always a patch gets me warmed up eye in the game , then it's the zonk but I feel you have to be careful where you fish it. Black minnow comes out if I'm fishing deep off a ledge so I can work it up and down off the bottom, really random one here dexter wedge tipped with squid caught me a few plaice. Nice vid thanks for sharing.
.I'm new to the bigger lures .and will give them a try this year .I've been using small red Gill types early morning on South coast .with good results .good vidz
Thanks for the info Matt! I took your advice from last time I commented and have been out a couple of times (unfortunately with no luck but it’ll soon come!) I’ll also take some info from this video again too! I did have a really good take on the Fiish Black Minnow but I couldn’t land it! Always appreciate the content you’ll surpass the 20k mark very soon I’m sure! Good luck!
One of the biggest advantages of using single hooks on lures is the bass are easy to unhook and you get more fishing time and lastly it does less damage to the bass mouth. ( I spend a lot time in summer standing in the sea up to my waste and found unhooking a bass on 3 hooks time consuming losing valuable fishing time when the bass were going nuts, but as soon as I changed to a single hook It was far quicker to unhook and I caught more bass.)
The Komomo is a great lure. Have you used the Sasuke at all? Very good during the day, it can swim very shallow like the Komomo and also works really well on a slow retrieve at night.
Looking forward to testing out my Canadian lures in UK waters when I move back in a few months! I can't believe the cost of lures in the UK. I just picked up a bunch of Lunkerhunt IMJKB02 hard plastic lures...3.50 gbp each !! great casting, 2 ball bearings and no big deal if you lose one. However, my go to lure over here is the Len Thompson 5 of diamonds. Game fish love to hate them!
Walking the dog is the worst analogy for this sort of fishing 😊 depends on what dog you have I guess ! That left right correction is important but I’ve had good results by varying the retrieve - thanks again for your input there’s more to show here and I think I’ll make a more detailed video on it
Lure fishing in Dorset ... I could see the bass and Pollock and they were NOT interested in the lures. Tried hard, soft and a jig and nothing....other than bait fish were following my rattling hard lure and a Pollock followed it to my feet. Feel like I'm never going to catch a fish... Have a zonk but scared to use it until I'm confident I know what I'm doing and it's pricey!
This happens fish were not feeding. Frustratingly they could of been 20 minutes later in the tide, personally when I see fish that don’t smash the lure I tend to use a fly . Frustration goes hand in hand with lure fishing for them bass!
Interesting way to fish the zonk. It has a powerful action like no other , i like to get that rod tip pulsing, i thought that was the way to do it. What a caster it is too.
I’ve got some underwater footage I’ll share shortly . You could well be right because it’s tail heavy you can get it looking reasonable by digging in to the rod tip as you say. So yes no wrong or right way as it all depends on conditions for me. Better results have come by being minimal for me ?
Always enjoy your videos ive caught a few bass this year on a shallow diver lure cotton candy.....have you ever tried the hound glide lure 26g first time i used it i caught 2 bass in the dark but it is a £20 lure...
Hi Paul, Very new to lure fishing, can i use my beach caster for lures? have you fished the norfolk coast? if so, do you have a lure you recommend. Cheers, have started watching all your back issue videos. Roy
You can use a beachcaster to cast lures but things are so much more refined with lure rods weighted for 20g lures lighter Braid. Norfolk isn't a an area i know well but You will catch on lures there. Watch out for the seagulls following bait fish that have been hit by Bass.
any tips for a beginner just getting into lure fishing? im picking up a few lures of different variety (surface, sub surface, soft etc) wondering what lure fishing is like in the winter months? ill be fishing south coast since i live in portsmouth and have plenty of big harbours in portsmouth or near by.
There will still be bass taking lures in winter but very hard. To be fair not many people fish through winter , big harbours are the answer to winter bass fishing I think. Many tips on the channel
@@SaltwaterAngler luckily i have langstone harbour on my doorstep which is a nursery for bass! only thing i have left to buy is a reel so guess ill get that sorted and hopefully get out there soon and have a go! thanks for fast reply ill check out more videos on your channel!
Very informative video Matt, thanks for the advice on the various options available. Could you perhaps do a video of what to use when and where due to conditions etc. Thanks keep them coming 🎣🐟🏴👍
Hi , could you recommend an inexpensive floater for fishing a very shallow beach, looked at the yozuri and my first thought was how much !!! I seem to agree with your earlier video opinion that many are so similar the bass won't look at how much it cost lol.
I'm brand new to lure fishing and your advice was well received, I'm also coming back to sport after 40+ years away, I'm visiting the Isle of Mull in a few weeks and I've planed a few sessions, aiming predominantly for bass and mackerel, I've slipped up though, I bought a 12 foot beach caster, not ideal for lure fishing, but I may twist my girlfriend's arm to buy a decent spinning rod. P.S. I'm now subscribed, once again thankyou.
Hello. Your vids are really good. I know that rods have different strengths and actions but, from your experience, what sort of rod and rod length is adequately suited to cast these light lures?
There’s a bit more too it but for me 10-30g rod and 9ft will serve you well. Personally the marks I fish may be tight against cliffs so casting all day I like 8ft ish rod even 7. But 9ft can cope with different marks.
Thank you, I've been wanting to ask for a couple of years now. I fished off the pier in Hastings last year after watching one of your vids. I managed to catch a mackerel using a basic float rig with sand eel. I'm hoping to try lures east of the rock-a-nore car park in a few weeks as it looks like a good spot. Keep making the vids, when I cant go fishing, I watch yopur vids instead🙂
High Matt, have just watched with great interest your choice for a top ten, some very impressive lures there indeed. Probably a bit of a difficult task to just pick out 10, out of the hundreds that are available ? and of course i think, and hope, that I would be correct in thinking that your lure/ lures also match your location/ venue ?? I am not quite sure where you might fish for the majority of time but, you seem to be mainly in fairly clean good visibility waters ? Unfortunately, my main area is around kent, places like Whitstable, Herne bay and the like where conditions can be very murky mucky & weedy so not the best of conditions at times. But on calmer days it can be that little bit clearer. Do you have any ideas or suggestions on what or might work well under such conditions ?? I do have a fairly good selection of artificials to choose from, sometimes I think that in itself is a problem, to much choice and not getting it right. Apart from finding different venues, any ideas/ suggestions for such conditions. Cheers, all the best, Les.
Hi Lee , yes I must admit I’m a bit of a clear water or nothing lure angler ! I know fish can be caught in those Kent conditions I wonder if it’s a confidence thing fish the lures in the same way but expect more missed bites in those cloudy conditions. In other words I see a lot of evidence that bass will still take a lure in your conditions
Soft plastics are something im trying to find abit more confidence in this with lures, I'm abit prone to buy top water and subsuface/shallow divers as I dont want to lose them....Will be adding that komomo in the shiny green colour to my collection, that looks a bass catcher
Nice to watch someone local! Tried out some green lures in the adur after watching another of your videos, no luck but I'll be heading back there soon. With some slight tweaks 👍
The Fiiish Black Minnow and the Savage Gear Seeker are my 2 best lures that have got me most of my bass. But also a mention to the Sidewinder Skerries Eel in white.
@Saltwater Angler Great vid, Im looking to change all of my lures over to inline singles i saw you put a link to the hooks.I have many of the lures you featured so i wanted to find out what size inline is best? My longest lure is a 140mm Ima will that need a slightly larger hook than say a 100mm patchinko? Thanks
Hi Matt, can't really comment on which lures l think are good as lm still learning and learning a lot from you, thankyou so much 👏👏lts really good to see how the lures move when it the water....crikey soooo much to take in but its all going to be worth it 👌😊 All the very best 🌱🌱🌱💕
I Loved your video, i am from holland and also, i was and i am again a Bass fisher( did some Sander fishing a few years and i still am doing it ) But back again now at bass Fisshing , i wonder why the Rappala x rap 10 cm is not in your list ???? My favourite Color is OLIVE , and i make my own feather tail on a VMS or Owner triple hook.
Very interesting video thanks Matt. I've only got 1 of the lures you mentioned (SG Seeker) and need to treat myself to a lighter (cheap!) lure rod if I was going to use some of the others you mentioned. I don't target Bass anyway, as a lot of the decent Bass marks locally I can't access due to health issues. Roll on 20K subscribers and that lure rod competition! Stay safe & well. 👍👍
What a great video I’m very new to lure fishing (haven’t been yet) and your channel probably 20 years since I’ve fished at all then mostly course fishing as don’t live near the sea I saw someone suggested a budget top ten I’ll go further and say a full budget set up would be awesome I have Carp rods float rods but guess I’ll need some lure rods and reels I recon you could class my kit as vintage 😂 but want to take up a new hobby as have much more time these days and love being outside keep up the fantastic content 👍🏻🐟🐠
I love your channel, not just because it is so well presented but i learn so much from you (Havn't fished in 40+years but thinks lure fishing appealing). ps am trying to get Uncle Bob, Auntie Ethel, the Postman and Milkman to subscribe to make up the numbers. Have a good day m8:)
Great selection but slightly surprised no Savage Gear Sandeel. I know that so much of this is all about personal confidence, and whilst I love topwater hard plastics I have yet to catch a bass on a diving hard plastic. Weird, eh?
Yea I think that it would be I. If I fished more in the south west , we don’t have too many sandeels here in comparison I guess. Interesting about diver for you too ?
Ive found Axia Lures a good cheap (not mega cheap) alternative and may i suggest Bassv lures UK he is on facebook and twitter has some copies i'm yet to try out but might be ok for the budget minded
Last 4 seasons my top 2 and all I really take/need is the feed shallow 128 mullet and the patchinko 125 500g.. Roll on 4 am tomorrow morning..🤙🏼edit lol Also if you want your lures to look brand-new for a few seasons the best thing you can buy is a product called bonda seal clear and dip them..trust me try it…
little bit of the bonda seal into a plastic Chinese container dip them then hang to dry for 6 hours..Leaves you with a nice smooth and glossy finish n Best of all your lures will look brand-new 2 years later😉
Thanks for this. I Kitted up based on your last top ten lures and I got better results 😊, thanks👍 A few new ones to grab, I'm off to our Chinese Friend now 😆 Still a disappointing year so far here on the med, I'm starting to wonder just how many fish are here, or is it me ?, It's getting worse every year 🙄 Cheers mate 👍
Great video as always! But I don't understand one thing. Quite often you say about changing trebles to single hooks which is fine but you're still using 3 trebles on some of the lures..? 🤔 I use mostly trebles on my shallow divers or sg seeker and tbh never had a bass with very damaged mouth, but if I buy lure with 3 trebles then middle one is off straight away.
8lb will fish ok , however jagged rocks can be a problem and I use around 15lb braid /18 fluro. It all depends where you are fishing - I’d replace old line though and braid would be my option.
Great video, I will definitely try some of these this year. Do you prefer to use heavier braid? I am using 32lb J-Braid, but I am thinking of going down to 20lb this year. What are your thoughts? Keep up the great work. Tight lines!
I’m often criticised by my more experienced lure fishing friends for going too light as they use 30 but 18lb for me is perfect with a 20lb leader. I’m sure the lower diameter makes a difference - pros and cons as always
@@SaltwaterAngler I agree tried different combos , but 18lb braid more than enough 20 lb shock leader again more than enough .trouble is with us fishermen we are always hoping for moby dick 😁 sometimes less is more !
You hit 20k subscribers then congratulations! I've had more luck bait fishing for bass this year than on lures but I intend on getting out on the kayak late summer (Im the Yorkshire bass angler) Would you use the same lures for trolling/spinning from a kayak or is that a separate top 10 video idea for you?
@@SaltwaterAngler 7lb bass lovely - did you catch it on camera? I had a approx 40cm bass 2 days ago on a LRF rod using a tiny soft plastic which is great fun on such a tiny rod. Trying a bombarder float and saltwater flies next. Will have to buy a needlefish and try it out 👍
Yep! Two ways of thinking about it YES you are getting an effective lure that might last longer than £36 worth of bait BUT bass will take anything at times so you could always consider a cheaper alternative. Lists of lures available on Amazon eBay and online sellers that look very similar - will be covering this in the channel
Rapala j13 to learn the ropes Floating lure for those calm days on the beach between the waves patchinko cast a mile. Shimano assassin in natural colours and then a metal like a savage gear seeker. Maybe try a rapture assassin to save a bit
You can re melt plastisol soft plastics with a lighter, just bend the cut open and brush with the flame until it goes glossy and the edges start to roll over, then just mash it together
Nice one Ant
Megabass vision 110 oneten silver and pink belly , my favorite seabass plug.
Cast like a rocket and can even jerk/ twitch it . Nice video 👍
Yes ! Good choice I lost one the other day !
Should try the Storm 360GT soft lures they are unreal
Nice to watch someone local! Tried out some green lures in the adur after watching another of your videos, no luck but I'll be heading back there soon. With some slight tweaks 👍
Ahh interesting Lee please let us know how it goes.
Brilliant ,never lured before going try next year, hopefully have a rod and reel by then!
Pleased to hear it !
Which one would be more suitable for low visibility waters? Our seas in the north east are always rough and cloudy with sand.
Bump a shad in any colour ?
Thanks again Joyce
great viewing as always top info thank you so much for your youtube filming
Appreciate you watching Stephen
My first year lure fishing got a few different types see how we go
I Loved your video, i am from holland and also, i was and i am again a Bass fisher( did some Sander fishing a few years and i still am doing it ) But back again now at bass Fisshing , i wonder why the Rappala x rap 10 cm is not in your list ???? My favourite Color is OLIVE , and i make my own feather tail on a VMS or Owner triple hook.
Nice to hear your making your own ! The crap is another good one
Thanks Dave
Do you not have the website or email any more Matt?
Email is Matt@saltwaterangler.uk and website is salterangler.uk
@@SaltwaterAngler Oops - typo in the website address Matt! www.saltwaterangler.uk/
I caught my first barracuda from the shore in Cyprus on the tide minnow
What a great video I’m very new to lure fishing (haven’t been yet) and your channel probably 20 years since I’ve fished at all then mostly course fishing as don’t live near the sea I saw someone suggested a budget top ten I’ll go further and say a full budget set up would be awesome I have Carp rods float rods but guess I’ll need some lure rods and reels I recon you could class my kit as vintage 😂 but want to take up a new hobby as have much more time these days and love being outside keep up the fantastic content 👍🏻🐟🐠
Thanks for that interesting to hear your story ! We did look at a budget set up on the channel . Good luck for your first lure trip
Thanks again !
Another Brill vid! What reel are you using ??? Cheers keep it up!!!!
Shimano exage 25
great video mate many thanks for your time and effort
Thanks Mate
Great selection but slightly surprised no Savage Gear Sandeel. I know that so much of this is all about personal confidence, and whilst I love topwater hard plastics I have yet to catch a bass on a diving hard plastic. Weird, eh?
Yea I think that it would be I. If I fished more in the south west , we don’t have too many sandeels here in comparison I guess. Interesting about diver for you too ?
What are the cheaper lures people are using please
Ive found Axia Lures a good cheap (not mega cheap) alternative and may i suggest Bassv lures UK he is on facebook and twitter has some copies i'm yet to try out but might be ok for the budget minded
Do you buy these online? The black minnow is a great lure.
I need to get a komomo and a Zonk.
Try lurefishing for bass , Amazon for the zonks or high street tackle
@@SaltwaterAngler Ill check those out. Thank you
Hi do you know if clacton beach is good for bass . Kind regards.
Hi , I don’t I’m afraid. Anyone help here…
Last 4 seasons my top 2 and all I really take/need is the feed shallow 128 mullet and the patchinko 125 500g.. Roll on 4 am tomorrow morning..🤙🏼edit lol Also if you want your lures to look brand-new for a few seasons the best thing you can buy is a product called bonda seal clear and dip them..trust me try it…
Top tip thanks
little bit of the bonda seal into a plastic Chinese container dip them then hang to dry for 6 hours..Leaves you with a nice smooth and glossy finish n Best of all your lures will look brand-new 2 years later😉
Thanks for this. I Kitted up based on your last top ten lures and I got better results 😊, thanks👍
A few new ones to grab, I'm off to our Chinese Friend now 😆
Still a disappointing year so far here on the med, I'm starting to wonder just how many fish are here, or is it me ?, It's getting worse every year 🙄
Cheers mate 👍
That’s kinda good to hear , the message is tough but hey happy to put you in the 20k draw
@@SaltwaterAngler ok, thanks, wow, what draw ? 😆
Just read things properly, thank you, you'll get 20 k, it's a sure thing 👍
Great video . Thank you . Wish you all the best , good luck .
Cheers for that
Good, informative tutorial, as always. 👏👍. Thanks.
Stay safe. 😷
Thanks again Ian
I don't know why you don't use the best american and best of all time stickbait from the brand Xorus ( Asturie 110/ frosty 2) patshinko..
Great video as always!
But I don't understand one thing.
Quite often you say about changing trebles to single hooks which is fine but you're still using 3 trebles on some of the lures..? 🤔
I use mostly trebles on my shallow divers or sg seeker and tbh never had a bass with very damaged mouth, but if I buy lure with 3 trebles then middle one is off straight away.
Yes work in progress change some and a few of these are new for this season
Another good video nice information
Hi Matt, was size line are you using for most of these lures? I've got some, old, 8lb on my spinning tod & am wondering if I should upgrade it?
8lb will fish ok , however jagged rocks can be a problem and I use around 15lb braid /18 fluro. It all depends where you are fishing - I’d replace old line though and braid would be my option.
Thanks Matt. Will do!
Interesting top bait! I have it a little different and it has joint baits and walking baits but no soft plastic lures 🙂
Nice 👍
M,do you have any advice on trolling lures, the best speed,
No but knowing bass they would hit them hard enough to hook emselves!
Great video mate I think we have all got a real problem with spending silly money on lures😜😆😆! Roll on 20k 👏👍💪
Cheers Devon as always appreciating your comments ! Your in the draw for the lure rod should you want it buddy
@@SaltwaterAngler thank you so much 👍🎣🐟
I've been caught by all of them. Thank you.
😉 ha yep I’m in too
I think they're called Spitting wire (without the g at the end of spitting) and found some with a simple google search "whiplash factory spittin wire"
thanks Karl did they have them in stock that's great
Another expensive video, thanks Matt! Roll on 20k 👍
Hey JW Cheeper options coming ! Thanks your in the draw if you want to be ! appreciate all the input
Want to be in the draw,? you bet! Even Nick hasn't offered that.🙂
😂😂😂
Off piste for a moment Matt, is there any wrasse fishing along your local stretches of coastline?
Why so small? You can move up to the 170 size and get 3x the casting distance. Can always put smaller hooks on.
Great video have you used Samson lures?
Yes another good choice. I did neglect all needlefish from this list though this time. I need more experience fishing them in the flow first
When do I get my lure rod ha great video sum nice lures
Lol well you are In The draw for sure
No sg sandell?
Another good one - Not used as much here in Sussex though
You hit 20k subscribers then congratulations! I've had more luck bait fishing for bass this year than on lures but I intend on getting out on the kayak late summer (Im the Yorkshire bass angler) Would you use the same lures for trolling/spinning from a kayak or is that a separate top 10 video idea for you?
Good question Alex , needlefish and j13 a good trolling lure or weighted shads have done well . Had a 7lb fish trolling a savage gear shad
@@SaltwaterAngler 7lb bass lovely - did you catch it on camera? I had a approx 40cm bass 2 days ago on a LRF rod using a tiny soft plastic which is great fun on such a tiny rod. Trying a bombarder float and saltwater flies next. Will have to buy a needlefish and try it out 👍
Cheers Alex the big problem with my bass was no evidence !
Thinking of getting into lure fishing I see some of these lures are pretty expensive 36 pounds ect 😮
Yep! Two ways of thinking about it YES you are getting an effective lure that might last longer than £36 worth of bait BUT bass will take anything at times so you could always consider a cheaper alternative. Lists of lures available on Amazon eBay and online sellers that look very similar - will be covering this in the channel
What top 4 would u recommend, something for surf fishing beaches , as I’m going to start there while I’m bait fishing?? Cheers
Rapala j13 to learn the ropes
Floating lure for those calm days on the beach between the waves patchinko cast a mile. Shimano assassin in natural colours and then a metal like a savage gear seeker. Maybe try a rapture assassin to save a bit
Wondering what rod n reel to get as a starter but not too cheap ? Cheers mate 👍🏻
Lovley video as usual spot on
Thanks again Kristof
As usual MAGIC, great video great watching, ell done you. cheers
Thanks
Great video once again
Thanks for the tips buddy!!
👍👍
Does anyone know any good and trust worthy websites were I can get any of these lures
Lure fishing for bass
@@SaltwaterAngler apreciate it, also do you know if there are any good bass fihsing spots in north wales?
Most lures catch more fisherman than fish. Thanks for this video very interesting and useful.
Yep I’m guilty too! Nice, still use these lures though
If you have enough depth a Hound can't be beat, casts miles and hold in rough water too.
Yes been using one today actually great lure
Surface lures are the best for catching sea gulls GGGGRRRRRRR!!!!!
I caught three last year so Im changing my ways.
They love that spittin wire ! I let them swoop then move the lure as they spread their wings to pounce -
Nice vid Mr saltwater I don't lure fish but your tempting me sir 👍👍
Go on ! Give it a go 👍😂
Yeah I shall at some point matt I lure for pike 👍👍
Do u sell them
Not yet ! Lure fishing for Bass, High street tackle, Veals and Mr Fish well recommended online shops
Can't believe there's no wopper plopper in the top 10. Made by kingdom lures. Outstanding surface lure, catches the bigger bass.
Will check it out
Great lures
What's the location pls
Various locations here
You don’t want to be using super glue on your SP’s buddy, especially FBMs. Get yourself some Mend-It.
Totally agree
Thanks Rob
You can re melt plastisol soft plastics with a lighter, just bend the cut open and brush with the flame until it goes glossy and the edges start to roll over, then just mash it together
