Bringing a car back to life is such a great feeling. I’m 29 and I refuse to have a high car payment and I bought an 03 Volvo s80 I’m slowly restoring. It’s high mileage but I love it. That rolls is a beauty 😍

Decades back, a recently retired engineer I once knew, impulsively bought himself an old Silver Shadow when he saw it going cheap on a used car lot. He had an empty shed by his house and wanted a hobby project to keep him occupied. Other than that, he had no plans for it - maybe something to go touring in eventually. After dealing with a few issues, tidying it up and getting it running satisfactorily, he was asked by family members if they could use it for a wedding. Word spread in the rural area where he lived, and he was asked again and again, charging a fair price for the service - He even bought a chauffeur's outfit!
Eventually he was even asked to use the car to pick up businessmen and foreign visitors on airport runs. It was never a full time thing - he did a bit of work from time to time as he pleased. But the car paid for it's keep with improvements and servicing as and when needed. I asked about the cost of servicing and was told that there were generic and used parts about for the car which kept costs down. Sadly, his wife thought it was a bit too ostentatious for holidays, though.

Paul, I own a 1981 Rolls Royce Silver Spirit, (more unusually at age 23), and my garage is slightly too short for it. I was in the exact position as you, stressing about it being on a driveway. Keep it clean, and invest in a made to measure cover, (Flying Spares can supply), and she will be fine! Mine remains immaculate. Another bit of advice from my year or so ownership and personal RR experience, is when it is recommissioned, USE IT. Seals tend to dry and crack without lubrication, and in worst cases they need overhauls of the hydraulic system due to excessive leaks .
I would also recommend getting accumulator pressures checked at a later stage mate. The brakes are pressurised from a cam driven pump, and if the spheres etc are bad you very quickly end up getting NO brakes when you have exhausted pressure. You should be getting min 15-20 pumps before warning appears for Low brake pressure.
Finally, I would also encourage a trip to Starman’s Rolls Royce and Bentley specialists, know them inside out and are genuinely well priced.
Cannot wait for the other videos, please save her !

That Alpine radio is worth around £400-£500 alone if it works perfectly.
It’s a 7618RR and bespoke to Rolls Royce and Bentleys only.
    Very desirable deck that.
Even more so that you still have the factory Alpine amps too.

I owned a 1981 Silver Shadow II 20 years ago. Every time I drove it, it was a special occasion! It drained my bank account though so I had to sell it and basically got back what I paid for it! So, lovely car but very expensive if you cant do all the work yourself!

Lots of work but your RR is 1000x better than the 'My Mate Vince' roller. You have the experience, he had none. He brought his back from the grave , on a drive, minimal tools , dodgy techniques, rattle can spray job, the ish. Got it through an MOT no probs. Found a very inexpensive fix for the air suspension using Citroen spheres, also found some very neat fixes for electrical problems which is really what his channel is all about.

Restoring my car took several years, but the results were astounding.

I paid twice as much as that for a 1994 Ford F-250 last year. In the states I would be inclined to put an LS(or iron Vortec) GM engine in it since it has a 4L80E. Over there that is probably not as feasible. I'd clean it all up, get the chassis, brakes, running gear all sorted, detail it up nice. Then I'd put an aluminum block 5.3L with 706/862 heads, Circle D 3600 tripple disk converter, HD2 shift kit in the 4L80e, NBS intake, VS7875, 120lb injectors ,455lph fuel pumps and run it with Holley Terminator X Max...over here in the states. It could make 600-700whp easy and probably get at least 20mpg highway depending on the gearing and tuning. I'm sure there is more incentive to keep it all stock there. More modern efi and ignition controls could probabaly make it a lot more fuel efficent and powerful if there was a way to adapt anything like crank trigger, coil on or near plug, sequential multiport efi, wide band O2, maf. Not that it's the sort of car that you'd want to hot rod but, it's probably such a novelty to have a V8 there ypu at least want the thing to feel strong for all that fuel, tax, maintanence and expense. It's the sort of car that is meant to be a durable good, most systems are over engineered and rebuildable. With so few miles, it's probably worse than if it was driven semi-regular, was garaged and had 144,000. Everything rubber, all accessories and fluids gotta be changed. Hopefully it comes back nice for you, not sure if it would be worth anymore all fixed up than what it might cost you to do it. Those are a handsome later Rolls and the last of the REAL Rolls before BMW meddling. I'm here for it.

Well done on this one. The colour looks like "Wild Berry" so hope it all goes well, get head gaskets checked as they can be a pain in the wallet and some electrical issues can be difficult to rectify other than specialist, and expensive. Great car to come out of this for sure!

These Cars will start under the most austere conditions. Cranked a 57 Silver Cloud that had been in storage for 40 years . Did basic servicing and she started right up with no problems .

Absolutely fantastic. Really looking forward to watching this project. I think these cars can be hard work to work on. You're a brave man, but you will get your reward. Congratulations on your purchase.

Congratulations! That looks like a challenge but a lot of it looks really good. I've got a similar car, a '96 Bentley Turbo R in the same colour, and it's like nothing else.
You might need to drill a small hole to get in to the boot, it's not something I've done myself but I'm sure I've seen people discuss it on the Rolls-Royce forums, which is well worth a look at.
Best of luck with it and hope it's not too ruinous, once you get it recommissioned as others have said use it!

I'm sure we'll all enjoy the RR restoration Paul. You certainly look like a cat that got the cream.
Have you watched any of Silver Spirit vids on the My Mate VINCE channel?
There is one (part 5) where the boot catch isn't working, which might give you a few clues.

In regards to the opening the boot you can slow charge the battery through the cigarette lighter to then open the boot.
Found this video randomly on a. Yt rabbit hole and have now subscribed, will be watching from Australia 👍🏻

Lucky Guy. It’s worth more than £2500 in scrap! Paint looks ok. The wheel trims won’t fit as the the tyres are 5he wrong size, you need to fit Avons.

Paul just check you are not using the valet key to try and open the boot, another thing on the later spirits( mine is a spirit 11) when the engine is running and you put it into gear, the handbrake will release itself.
