there was a video where the protesters threw a live grenade on the police. A policeman tried to kick the grenade away but it blew right when he kicked it and resulted in him losing his leg
these are likely protesters as the police are usually the first to bring massive amounts of arms which then starts a race to security. Rioters have targets beyond the riot police, so this is a protest with self-defense
I've always wondered how the police respond in situations like this, even in the US. Doing "riot-duty" literally leaves you almost defenseless. Sure you can arm the officers with pistols but the ability to actually use it is damn near impossible. imo they should've re-treated at that point, and called in the military or escalated it with now armed officers now armed with rifles and maybe actual ballistic rated shields.
This video is obviously quite old, I know nothing about these protests, and I'm not a tactician, but I think the whole point of the riot police is to avoid an actual full scale urban pitched battle in the middle of your capital. They're already protesting, imagine the political crisis of a Taiwanese Tiananmen Square.
The difference between using riot police and the army is the difference between a riot and a civil war. Riot police has more tools when it comes to crowd control (tear gas, rubber bullets, water tanks, etc...), and then ultimately firearms. The army's only option is to shoot to kill. Which is not very good when you're in your own country fighting civilian protests. I think the police was caught by surprise in this case but they're not unprepared or unable to deal in these kinds of scenarios.
in the us large cities have snipers down during riots, and usually swat teams with regular police are behind the riot police also in the us all riot police still have their service pistols, they just aren't allowed to fire unless someone is shooting
Riots are hard to manage overall, the risk of brute military force used to possibly kill dissenters is almost always has worse back lash than the actual riot. Just think about the 2021 BLM riots, one man who wasn’t even a stand-up dude getting wrongly killed, indirectly resulted in the deaths of dozens of more people just as a reaction. Imagine if the national guard had walked in and starting jamming loaded M4’s in people’s faces…the civil war would’ve been here last year.

You think terrorism is good?
Or are you just hypocrite because you come from the same family? Maybe you dad, mom or someone else in your family is part of antifa or isis?
Or did you actually just watch couple of random videos of them "helping others" and got emotional because the people you look up to are said to rob and kill others and got shot at?
Also don't come up with me "Oh they are just few bad sheep in the herd"
The herd would kill, r*pe and rob if ordered by their higher ups.
Only very few of them would understand at that point that what they are doing is terrorism and leave to join the others.

Wow amm from thailand
When blitz needs buffs XD (not serious )
The first bomb in this vdo was actually dropped from the hand of police officer.
Please find the official vdo from BBC which project the view from opposite angle.
Did they say it was the protesters?
why was he carrying a bomb though.
irfan123100 probably to blame the protesters and start shooting them. I don't know
So the police are the evil?
Nobody said the protesters bombed the police.
so the police killed the police that died?
That's an *actual* riot, not a "demonstration" of what a riot looks like
Oh my god
Wow im so glad I finally watched this after 2 weeks of TH-cam recommending it to me nonstop. Thanks TH-cam, I learned so much and this was so insightful.
