      Aye, it was great to see an Eagle up there, and to get so close to it before it noticed me, bonus for the day. Cheers.

    Wow Andy another stunning video. Waited on the mrs going to bed so I could watch this on the big screen lol. Particularly enjoyed the views of the Horns of Alligin from this side and the timelapse of Liathach. Cheers Rob 👍

      Thanks Rob. It's a cracking mountain albeit steep, and only centimeters shy of Munro status. Well situated for views of the other 3 Torridon Munros. Cheers.

    Fantastic video . . . took me back to when I climbed this wonderful mountain some twenty years ago. Like you, I had the Beinn to myself as I guess the Munro-baggers were on the surrounding peaks!

      Thanks Roger. Wonderful solitude, on a great hill, in great weather. Good times. Yeah, the Beinn Alligin car park was full when I arrived, everyone on the Munro. Cheers.

    Terrific video again Andy, and in stunning conditions. Nice to see one from Beinn Dearg for a change, showng different perspectives on Beinn Eighe, Beinn Alligin and Liathach. This proves it is a great mountain in it's own right, despite being just short of Munro status!

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  ปีที่แล้ว

      Aye, it's a fantastic mountain. Very well situated for the views. It's kinda nice that it falls short of the Munro status as I didn't see a soul all day, yet the Alligin car park was full when I arrived. I wonder, if I threw some tufts of grass onto the cairn would it then become a Munro, haha. Cheers.

    Superb video Andy really helpful as I plan to do beinn dearg next April backpacking from loch maree and do the two other Corbetts in a circular walk. Brilliant views but the castle on the ridge looked steep well done

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, it's a steep hill, and the Castle part was a bit dangerous so had to put on my chest mount for the camera and put the poles away. The Castle can be avoided though by just doing an up and down from the ridge I descended, as per the walkhighlands route. I think most people will just do that, especially when adding in the other two Corbetts too. Cheers.

    Another first class video of a peak I never got round to doing in my haste to finish my Munro round. I suspect you might use a chest cam which I think gives more realistic footage. Thanks Andy .......PS was that a golden eagle which flew off to the north ?

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michal, glad you enjoyed it, it's a fantastic hill. If the terrain is easy I'll usually just carry the camera, so it's easier to pan around and such. But yeah, as soon as the terrain gets difficult, and I need my hands, I'll use a chest mount. Much smoother than a head cam, and focuses more on my direction of travel as i'm constantly looking around. I think it was a Sea Eagle with the white tail. Cheers.

    This has to be one of the most complex hills I have ever seen? Did you do some off piste stuff or is that the route? Imagine trying to navigate that in the clag? Amazing views Andy and an amazing looking mountain 😯😯Paul

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Paul. It really is a great hill, though a steep one, and only centimeters shy of a Munro. The walkhighlands route describes a there and back from the side I descended, but I wanted to see the east side of the hill too. I looked through some of the 'users reports' and there were various routes up the south-east side via various gulleys. I decided just to walk along the valley until I saw a good way up. My ascent was pathless and steep, but no difficulties. The only difficulty was the Castle, I had to put the poles away and chest mount on for the camera. I had planned to go up and over it but when I got there it looked a bit daunting, so took one of the bypass paths around it and got onto it from the other side. I wouldn't fancy the bypass in claggy/wet/snow conditions as the paths are more like grassy sheep trails with a long drop below you. After the castle it was fairly straightforward though. Cheers.

      @@andy-astro cheers Andy. Definitely a route for a clear dry day! It’s a cracking looking hill and probably more of a challenge than a lot of Munros! Just goes to show you! Any plans for this weekend coming?

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PAADVENTURES1 Yeah, some of the Corbetts are really good hills, and so often neglected. Though I do love being the only one on the hill, even with a full car park, didn't see a soul this day as everyone was on the Munros. I'd love to get back up to Assynt soon for Suilven and some more Corbetts, thoroughly enjoyed Quinag, some of the best views I've seen from the top of the hills (excluding Skye ofc 😀). But I'll check the weather and head wherever looks best.

    • @rogerwatt8491
      @rogerwatt8491 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andy-astro I'm going to be in Assynt next week and can't wait to get back on the hills . . . I now live in Vancouver so I only get a couple of weeks up there every year. I first climbed all the Coigach and Assynt hills in the '60s (and the rest of the Sutherland hills) and am doing my third or fourth round of them now some fifty five years on. Mountains definitely don't have to Munro's to be both beautiful and exciting.

    • @andy-astro
      @andy-astro  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rogerwatt8491 Yeah, Assynt is beautiful. I've only done the Munros and Quinag up there so far, but I'll definitely be doing the rest when I can.
