I’m a phys ed teacher (and a drummer), just wanted to share that I incorporate your style of teaching to my students for PE. Straight to the point, clear demonstration, sprinkle of comedy. You’re the man
So glad you enjoyed it. Ya, it's like a "get out of jail free" card for those cringe moments where someone says "DO SOMETHING COOL" 😂 Mike J - www.mikeslessons.com
After almost 6 years of planning, I’m finally taking the plunge and starting your drum lessons! I’m so excited to get back into the groove and have some fun drumming again!
If I can make someone thousands of miles away from me smile and even laugh, then my day is a success! Glad you enjoyed it Kevin :) Mike J - www.mikeslessons.com
Great groove and will be fun to practice! Hope you'll post more of these Drum lessons on TH-cam. Easier for me to follow than on Instagram. A video suggestion for you is to show in details how you review a Session video from a student. What you are basing your review on and what are the criterias to make a student pass or fail? IMO, Session is a game changer and a tremendous differentiation with your competition. I know from listening to your podcast that you don't like to make auto promo and selling your services but see it as a way to help drummers to advance and with the accountability of Session, you should really show it to everyone. I don't have time now but when I'll get more time, I'll definitely subscribe to mikelessons and try to build my way through Session.
Not quite. Yes to the die-cast hoops, but the drum is actually a COB (powder coated matte black) prototype that I made with Gretsch before my signature snare was released. Thinking about bringing this one to market since I actually play it more than The Tandard, lol. Thoughts?
I have your signature snare in the blue glass edition. I love it. But the tone that comes out of the one you are playing in this video was giving me that slight ring that I love to hear. Makes sense that it’s a COB. I’m thinking the powder coating tames it a bit. I love the sound and how sensitive it is. Die cast hoops always have that sound like a pop when you do the rimshots lol. Man we need this snare out here like yesterday lol. It really compliments the drums. Almost like It’s slightly muffled. To be honest, I have always been an aluminum snare guy, but would love to try this powder coated COB at my church for sure. I’ve seen the last few videos where you used this snare, just didn’t comment till today about it lol.
I have the Ludwig lm402 and the DW thin Aluminum and a few other wood snares. A COB would be something new for me, I’ve never owned one but have played on a few.
Sooooo good. Love everything about this, how you break it down, make it accessible for all levels, practice slower bpms WITH US!!!! then faster, then add the sauce and finally demonstrate different ways to use… the short intro solo plus the MJ wave 😂. Thank you for thinking of it all, as always!
When will I use it ?? Never. I sold my drums eons ago and am too old to start over, but still love the instrument, and love watching your videos !! Great job, Mike, as always !!
This groove is 🔥 loving the extra dry cymbal set up on this. What is the set up l to r if you don't mind me asking Mike. Thanks as always for the amazing content!
I don't mind at all. All Meinl Byzance 15" Extra Dry Hats 19" Extra Dry Crash 21" Mike Johnston Transition Ride 20" Extra Dry Crash Hope that helps brother Dan :) Mike J
Good morning Mike . Great funkifying groove but Id expect so given your location borders the funkin’ “ East Bay Grease “ legacy.😊 Kewl video. Thanks Mike 🥁😎
LOL! Much appreciated. I wish living a couple hours away from some historic funk would have rubbed off on me but I'll kindle accept your compliment :) Mike J - www.mikeslessons.com
I always look forward to hearing that right crash. I know you’re in California but for some reason all your beats sound like they have a southern drawl. I could get it note for note but they don’t have that southern drawl. It must be in the accent. That feel is intoxicating. I work and I work but damn. I could pick you out of a dozen drummers with my eyes closed. You’re the best.
Ray, the good news is that you probably have a feel that I could never replicate. Lean in to what makes you YOU! And ya, that right crash (20" Extra Dry) is something special :) - Mike J
