there have been a few really, really good mods. Noticeably the one where they just buy a new car or the episode where they had this old car and ripped the engine, transmission etc out and put a diesel engine in (and not much other fancy stuff).

My favorite early 2000s show was the TLC show called Junkyard Wars (Scrapheap Challenge was the British version). You had 10 hours in a junkyard to build whatever the challenge was. And then the next day they would compete in the challenge to see who would win. It was an awesome show that showed a lot of innovative fabrications and engineering. Now my new favorite car show is Roadkill and Roadkill garage, from Motortrend.

I used to love watching Stacy David on the weekends when Speed did the Powerblock, I was always more interested in more of the nuts and bolts of wrenching on cars and trucks and working on muscle cars and classic trucks rather than the early 00s tuner car scene. Those shows are alittle dated and some of them were somewhat hamfisted with the sponsorships, but they did pave the way for the more DIY/Project car type shows that we see on TH-cam now and have aged pretty darn well as compared to Pimp my Ride and the other more over the top reality car shows

They actually had to know how to plug in a computer and install software. It weeded a lot of the ignorance we see today out. Companies like instagram and twitter would have never survived then, because why on earth would people use it? Just finished my first serious custom modification to my car too. Everything else like the ECU, coilovers, and brakes were just drop ins. Now I have a full custom carbon fiber aluminum honeycomb foam sandwich subwoofer box molded to fit my spare tire bay. Extremely light for its size but very rigid and well damped. My own way, 20 years later, of honoring the shows that got me into cars.

The 2000s were when I first really started getting into cars, especially the import scene. While I watched a bunch of build shows, I think my favorite was Tuner Transformation on the Speed Channel. Focused mainly on the sport compact scene, but they seemed to care more about performance than they did about the looks or crazy body kits that a lot of the shows relied on. They had those too, but my favorite episodes were the ones where they just tried to build a faster, better handling car. Really wish that show was still on...

Yup, although havent watched the show with the new guy who replaced Ed China. Some of the auto channels on TH-cam are great too.

Even the French version of it is cool, and for some random reason I live 300m away from where it's shot.

I have a friend named jerry who owns a hot rod shop/garage who was on monster garage. They had to build a truck that could capture and launch a hot air balloon while the truck drove. Jerry helped design and build it as well as pilot the hot air balloon. He told me the host was deathly afraid of snakes so one day he brought his boa constrictor to set and just about made the host shit his pants lol. I really want to find his episode hes only shown me pictures from a big book all the contestants got when it ended that had pictures and descriptions from every episode.

In reference to the to early cars of the 2000s looking wacky in general:
The 2001 BMW 325 looked great VS it’s Audi rival and other cars in its class.

Lol oh man I'm 36 and remember all these crazy ass car shows. It got to the point they were hard to differentiate because of the overwhelming abundance of similar shows coming out the same time

Counting cars on history 18 was also a nice show, although they didn't show any process of restoration and customisation but still it was enjoyable

Of course wheeler dealers was sensible haha. it was just British and basically just a negotiator and mechanic trying to make some cash
