      I was hoping that I didn't have to buy any avocados this year but I'm out at this point and back to the supermarket. Hopefully next year for sure, no more store-bought avocados. I was checking out a bag at Costco just yesterday and half of the fruit looked rotten.

    Hey REM - Your GEM is loaded!! The new Brokaw GEM from your order actually has fruit on it, which surprised me, but I am thinking of removing the fruit for this season to allow the tree to put its' energy towards growth rather than fruit. I also put the GEM into a 25 gal pot of Top Pot, and it responded well to the up-potting. The JB continues to do well, but no fruit set this season, which I kind of expected. Thanks for the update. Everything is looking good.

    Same experience with my GEM, Gwen, and Bacon. My wurtz, which was literally only 2’ tall, held onto 30 avo cados, still harvesting them. But, no flowers this spring, so no fruit next year. Either an alternate bearer or too small to consistently produce. It’s flushed out and now about 3’. Holiday and Reed set a lot of fruit as well.
    Underperformers this year: nabal, Fuerte, Zutano, Sir Prize, and surprisingly Pinkerton.
    All the above are in 24” containers. My Reed and GEM in the ground have a monster fruit set this year. Pinkerton in the ground has 1 fruit, 😢. It’s close to a 30-year plus Macadamia nut tree, which I think is strangling it/stealing water and nutrients.
    Looking forward to your poor performers video.

    How’s your green gold tree doing? The one I have is starting to do a lot better. I had a lot of flowers this year but sadly most of the fruit dropped off. I think I have about five sharwil and a few wurtz this season.
    I think I have about 25 avo trees in the ground now so hopefully in another year or two I’ll be loaded.

    Great video. I believe my tree is a Wurtz (not sure though). I've had it in the ground for about 15 years. I get fruit every year but only about 10 edible per year. In some of your closeups I notice some smaller fruit, which I get but they end up on the ground before they grow into a sustainable fruit. My question is how I can get those tiny fruit that fall to the ground to grow into edible fruit. Any suggestions?

    • @AvocadoTalk
      @AvocadoTalk  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Jim, I'm glad you are growing avocados but getting only about 10 fruit per year that makes it too be eaten after 15 years is unusual. If this is your only avocado tree then you may want to consider adding another, as you know avocados are type a or b and just having 2 trees will improve fruit set and yield. Also I'm not sure how much watering you do but for me when I started increasing the amount of water it helped and made a big difference in my yard. Another option which I have considered but not tried is Gibberellic acid (GA3) . It is a plant growth regulator that can be used on avocados to increase fruit size and yield, improve fruit set, and help develop seedless fruits. Read the instructions carefully if you do. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    Good video, but microclimate and pollination differ in other areas. My Wurtz and Gwen are same size and age as yours, but just the opposite, Wurtz has 15 fruits from last year almost ready, Gwen Loaded with blossems this spring, has dropped them all but one. All my Pinkertons have fruited early, held the fruit and been precious.

      For sure, there are so many little areas in SoCal. A little surprised because the Gwen is supposed to be very productive.

      @ChiledeGarcia ปีที่แล้ว

      @frankyancy1347 I agree. My Gwen in a 15 gallon standing under 7 feet tall flowered heavily last season and held 8 avocados this year. This season it flowered very poorly. Same with my Carmen, 2 GEMS and a few other varieties. The one that did the opposite is my Reed. Loaded with tiny, bb size fruits.

    • @AvocadoTalk
      @AvocadoTalk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have different types of soil in different parts of my yard. Some areas are more sandy so I just use native and add perlite to loosen it up a little more. Other areas has more clay so I add sand and perlite and gypsum. The key is to not mix compost or wood products into the soil.
      My next avocado that I'm going to plant I'll do a step by step.
