Fantastic video, your wife is lucky to have you, to do such an awesome job on those shutters!! They look wonderful, and the fact they swing is incredible too!
You've done a beautiful job on your shutters. I'm looking for inspiration and I do believe that I've grabbed some great take-aways from you! So Thank You! #1 - I'm definitely going to grab the cedar fence boards! #2 - I LOVE the hinges idea! Hopefully Home Depot sells those 🤞🙏😉 #3 - I didn't think about using stain!! 🤯😍😃 I'm going to be painting mine black but Im going to test transparent black stain along with my deck transparent stain color, Tugboat. Thanks for sharing your ideas! 💯👍

Yeah, I guess it would have been less than 1/8 of an inch. Probably 1/32 to maybe 1/16. Good catch. We ended up at about 1/4 inch boards. It's been almost 2 years and they have held up very well!
Awesome project! Thanks for sharing. What was the spacing between the vertical shutter boards? Were the (3) horizontal battens on the front of the shutter screwed in from the back?
I used a 1/4" for the spacing and I attached everything from the back to keep the fasteners hidden. And sorry for the delayed response. I typically try to answer questions in the comments much quicker than this. Appreciate you reaching out!!
@@TheSharkShed , that's hilarious. I was watching with my wife and said "Well, I like it all except that I don't like that you can see the screws; I would have done them all from the back." Only later did I realize that you had them folded in (closed direction) in that shot. :-) I felt kind of silly! It is sad, though, that the hinge straps can't be seen most of the time, as they add a lot to the look.

Thank you so much!
Awesome video this is exactly what I was looking for! Making cedar shutters out of fence pickets. Thanks so much now I can get busy!!
Sweet! Glad it helped!

I'm glad this was helpful! Black or Black stain sounds amazing!
Nice work. Just to let you know I'm copying this on to my house. AWESOME 🎉
Thank you! Glad you liked it and hope it turns out just as well for you!
Can you add the hinge kit into the description block above?
Sorry, I reused the same hinge kit from the old shutters. They were in great shape so I decided to reuse instead of replacing them.
Thanks for this video. I’m doing shutters and posts and taking a lot of tips from you.
So glad it was helpful! Thank you!
Great video! Is your siding/window trim wood or vinyl? I'd love to do this at my house
Thank you! The siding is Hardie Cement board.
Awesome video just love the way they look and that they open and close..have you closed them on bad weather and how do they did they work out
Thank you! They do open and close, but they are meant to just be decorative, so I have never closed them.
Gorgeous work
Thank you!
Great color choices, great work.
Thank you so much!
Looks great Dino! 👊🏻
Thanks buddy!! 👍
My house is identical to yours except white shutters. I think the cedar is great, going to copy this
Copy away! Hope they turn out great!
Can i get the link for the hinges ??
Sorry, I don't have one. I reused the existing hinges from the old shutters.
What color is your house and shed?
The color is Sherwin Williams Midnight Blue. Thank you for watching!

1/8th of an inch 5 times ?

They look really good . Someone quoted my mother-in-law $1600 for 3 sets of windows like this, but I talked her into doing this instead
@@robertfultz7423 I'm glad this helped make a less expensive decision for her.
Is ur siding wood or vinyl?
It’s Hardie cement board.
Where did you get the hardware?
I use the same hardware from the old shutters.

@@nevillenewman2785 I agree! I think the hinge straps on the front would have given it a lot of character.
What color is the house. I really like it~!
The color is Sherwin Williams Midnight Blue. Thanks you!
Whats color siding and trim you used?
The Trim is a regular white trim. I believe the house color is Sherwin Williams Midnight Blue.
yup nailed it, perfect New England style, now just hang the Betsy Ross 13 colony flag and call it a day!
That's a great idea! Thanks!
