    Main video:
As you may have seen I made a nutcracker on the main channel and I had to make two of these parts for it.
The one in this video is the second one I made and I decided to just let the camera film and don't edit much. Of course I did some minor cuts so there are no scenes where you have to stare at the same picture without anything happening. But I didn't shorten the "making time" of the part.
Please note that I don't have an DRO so I have to measure manually, which obviously takes time and I rather measure twice than regretting :D
Also I have a relatively small lathe, so I can't remove so much material at once. On a bigger lathe and with a DRO this would probably take much less time.
If you are willing to support me leave a comment, subscribe and share my work, I really appreciate and it helps me a lot!
I hope you will have some fun watching the video! If you have any further questions let me know in the comments, I will try my best to answer them as quickly as possible!
I hope you liked the video! Thank you for watching and feel free to leave a comment and subscribe if you liked :)
    Until next time :)

I am new to my lathe about a year ago. I am impressed by the speed of your chuck. I have been working a speeds that are a fraction of what you are running. I have worked out a chart with chuck speeds that has different materials and operations on it along with the belt configurations I need since I have a 2 step pully on my motor and a 3 step pully on my spindle. But, honestly I usually just use a medium speed for most of my work. I have a long way to go before I master this skill.

Thank you for your kind words.
I am also far away from being an expert, I am still learning an sure making a lot of mistakes. But that’s part of the game and learning by doing is great in my opinion 😄👍🏼

After seeing how your lathe struggles with parting, I'm wondering if there would be any value in making a parting tool that would consist of a piece of hacksaw blade held in a pivoting clamp. The clamp would be mounted on the toolpost in such a way that the blade could be brought up to cut into the work from underneath. This would load the blade in tension rather than compression, which would presumably reduce vibration of the blade and make a cleaner cut. (Alternatively, you could run the lathe in reverse and cut into the work from above, which would make room for a longer segment of blade.) The smaller kerf of the hacksaw blade compared to the parting tool would reduce the stress on the lathe and result in less vibration in the rest of the system, and the pivoting clamp would offer more precision than a handheld hacksaw. That's the theory, anyway. Let me know if a sketch would help to clarify this idea.

Hm I think I kind of know what your idea is, but I am not sure 😅 A sketch would be helpful!
Parting really takes long with my lathe because it’s only a small machine. Usually I don’t even do it, because it takes so long, it’s much easier to cut parts with the angle grinder and then turn the face clean 😄
Thank you for your comment buddy!

The parting tool was not biased to the workpiece being cut off, hence the nub on workpiece not on the leftover piece in chuck, thats why you had the sideproject of threading a nut and hold it that way. Also grind side relief on your parting blade. Otherwise good video. Sidenote: i also had issues when i started with my lathe. Spent hrs on videos of the following i individuals Joe Piezinski of Advanced Innovations, Texas and Mr Tubalcain youtube shop teacher from Illonois. Hope it helps

When parting use a real thin tool bit to cut .

The one I used is the thinnest I can get around here 😄

Very nice video. Can I ask you what lathe you are using? Thanks

What a long video making such a small simple part, painful to watch

Lol I uploaded the uncut footage because some viewers asked in the past on my main channel where I made the nutcracker how long it takes to make parts like this.
This is how long it takes using a small lathe without a DRO, it is what it is like it or not 😄😄
