This version was always just a short clip to start the next song during that tour. U2 has a studio cover that was a B side… that is incredible!
The quote “Smell the flowers while you can” is attributed to David Wojnarowicz who was the artist who made the artwork for the single cover of the buffalos. He was a gay man who died of AIDS in 1992 I believe. He was estranged from his parents and when they heard this song it made them reconcile with him before he passed. “One life, with each other” is the line that always gets me. The proceeds of the sales of One went to AIDS charities. The band also sold ZooTV condoms at the merch stands to encourage using protection…which is one of my favorite things U2 has done lol. I feel like nowadays that would be a bit scandalous sadly.
There is another layer of emotion to this performance. The song was written about the band almost breaking up, this song saved them in a way. The band were supposed to film both nights in Sydney but on the first night Adam, their bass player didn’t show up to the concert. It turned out he was unconscious in the hospital after drinking all night. They had to play that show without him, his bass tech filled in, but obviously the band was super worried about Adam. So this concert has a lot of emotion bc they are so grateful that Adam was there and Adam began his sobriety that day and has been sober ever since. This is the greatest U2 concert imo. Sadly I was only 4 when it happened and if I could go back in time just for one day I would go see this concert.

Yes. The bison video was an alternate video for U2’s One. Depicted in showing how Native Americans would hunt the Buffalo by getting them so crazed they would go off a cliff if acted as a metaphorical statement to One in the sense that you can read it many ways.
The song saved the band from breakup and they dedicated it to the fight against AIDS.

When Bono wrote it, the band were at the point of nearly splitting up, constantly fighting with each other while recording the "Achtung Baby" album in Berlin.
That’s right, and they donated the proceeds from this single to aids research.. I love Bono.. he gave millions to our government over the pandemic as well 🥰🥰🥰
Was there. Now I live a 15 minute walk away. That stadium was pulled down and replaced recently.
