i have been saving up to get my self a e-bike for the last 2-3 years and iv seen this one and i have got to say its one of the best reviews i have seen thank you my dude
Thanks very much! It’s a very honest review from a very average me! :) the bikes great, and I know they are a lot of money, but better value than lots of bikes out there :-)
I bought 1 of these for just over £2k. Its my 1st ebike and I wanted to see if they're any good as a concept without spending too much. 6 months old, 300ish miles on it and 19 cycles on the battery according to the app that I connected it to. For that price it's a great bike. I'm not sure I'd want to pay £3k for it though. I downloaded the firmware updates using the shimano app, adjusted the suspension and took it for a good 15 mile blast on a mixture or road, tracks and decent off road. Here are my 1st impressions. Pros. Price (in my case). Feels solid and sturdy. No unwanted flex noted. The shimano motor is responsive and smooth. I used mainly eco but used trail and boost on steep climbs off road and they were great. Comfortable with excellent rear suspension. Feels like a fast bike in most situations especially downhill. 24kg of bike under you will do that! Dropper post as standard. Cons. Brakes need upgrading. They really cannot cope with fast descents. They overheated and squeeled like a pig constantly despite there being very little wear to the discs or pads. I'll see what's available for a reasonable price I think. Tyres are draggy yet offered little grip in the mud. The square profile made for a couple of heart in mouth moments when cornering hard. Not a deal breaker but will be replaced as they wear. May improve with a bit more air in them? I'll play around with pressures and see. Cramped cockpit. I'm 5'9" on a medium and the bike feels slightly short. More adjustment of the saddle needed maybe. An extra 10mm on the stem would be worth a try but I wouldn't want to go any longer than that. Shimano etube app is crap. Used it to connect to bike to download firmware updates. It did that perfectly well but now doesn't connect. A shame as you can make adjustments to the motor etc on the app. Downloaded St unlocked which works fine. Neither a pro or a con. I'm getting nowhere near 150mm travel from fork despite going over some rough ground. Psi is as recommended for my weight. Some further adjustment probably required. 15 mile ride took 48% of the fully charged battery. I cannot see how you'd get the range mentioned by shimano. I'm not bothered as my longest off road ride is 23 miles and longest mixed ride is 30 mile so it should be OK for that. Less draggy tyres will possibly help. No room for a bottle on the bike. A common issue with ebikes. No space in the triangle, dropper post means it can't go there and I don't want it on the top tube in case of any 'undercarriage' contact issues at speed. I can see my analogue bikes getting much less use. I have a carbon fibre hardtail and an alloy full susser and the only advantage I can see them having right now is they're easier to lift over the style halfway round my route. Honestly, if electric bikes were invented first we would not be riding analogue bikes.
Great feedback, I have the large frame and I’m 6’1” and it actually feels a little big if anything. I think with the large frame you have a longer travel dropper due to the shame on for frame. As far as drinks bottle, I have a bum bag type thing with space for my phone and a bottle holder :-) Agree regarding breaks, but I am fairly steady so work for me 😊
@@Miketyler So I've fitted new brakes to it today. Shimano deore calipers and levers and slx discs, 203mm up front and 180mm on the rear. The braking is great now and the bike is transformed as I've more confidence slinging it down fast and/technical routes. I also put some bergtec flat pedals, ritchey grips and wider carbon fibre handlebars that have no rearward sweep (brand x possibly, I don't remember) that I had lying around the workshop. There is more room on it now and it feels very much improved. A proper mountain bike that's so much fun now.
@@Miketyler £150 for calipers, levers etc. £19 for 180mm disc, £23 for 203mm disc and £10 for adaptor required for fitting the 203mm disc. Straightforward to fit although getting the rear hose through the frame requires patience and was a pain in the behind. Top tip, cut a slot in the brake hose at the caliper end then tie some dental floss to it and pull through the frame from the front of the bike. Cut the floss leaving it in the frame. When it's time to fit the new hose put it through the rubber cap that's pre fitted and use the dental floss to pull it from the rear of the bike to the front. Gettingbit past where the swing arm meets the frame was the worst part and required lots of swearing to get it through. Cut the hose to fit and connect it up. A quick bleed to make sure there's no air in the system and job done.

Morning thanks for commenting, it’s a great bike overall, I really do like it. The breaks aren’t great, but other than that, I am impressed. However, during the winter I’ve found myself riding non ebikes more as they are easier to clean and maintain when really muddy and wet. This has reminded me how heavy ebikes are. The weight doesn’t really matter, but it’s nice to to have something you can lift easily when needed 😊
