There hasn't been an American movie that scared me. The reason being there's no spiritual side to the Hollywood horror, just dry chopping, gore, senseless killing and torture.
Billuminati Cat Cipher....Laking, is a weak word compared to how shity Western horror is.I don't scream or even blink at any of the movies multiple cheap jumpscares that are not even that scary for children the movies always give of a greedy feel to it given because the lack of creativity ,the call of duty franchise has better plots than the common American horror movies you can find randomly in any store of any kind,And when theirs finally a movie worth appreciating, some other people coincidentally copy off of it and the creators don't do any copywrite justice cause they already got money and fame so they don't need to do anything else, "fucking bunch of rich assholes!," And the most enraging thing about Western horror movies is that they grab a good old veteran horror movie suck the horror out of it,Then simply make everyone feel the hipe, say that the movie is the most scary traumatizing movie that it's disturbing shouldn't be watched if I'll by heart cause you'll die,I can find much more disturbing videos on TH-cam and it's free so amarican horror just means to me shity no scare all talk movies, can you people who took the time to read this shit, put good amarican horror movie that I may not know about that would be a challenge but fuck it JUST DO IT!!!
That is exactly how it is! The classics will always be recognizable by name, but all these generic ripoffs will be forgotten quickly. Feels like it's all about making a quick buck instead of quality now!
Zombies are a Haitian thing and have nothing to do with corpses crawling out of the ground, think more of someone in a deep catatonic state completely under a deviant persons control.
My list of favorite J-Horror, not in any order. Infection (Kansen) The Booth One Missed Call (Chakushinari) Slit Mouth Woman (Kuchisake Onna) The Curse (Noroi) Retribution (Sakebi) Throne Of Blood Tomie series Hellavator Just type watchasianhorror in google search and you can watch them all. I watched The Grudge both English and Japanese version. It was one of the few movies that actually scared me. Also the Ring. I was perfectly fine with the Ring until the girl came out of the TV. I admit that scared me good. Well done Japan!
*The Ring* is the only remake of a J-horror film that I personally prefer over its predecessor. *Ringu,* while still having a good story, didn't scare me much, though that admittedly probably has to do with its lower effects budget. *+Amphipolie* No problem. *Kansen (Infection)* is pretty good too, though the ending was convoluted. I keep hoping they'll remake it someday and flesh the story out better while retaining the original's tone. It's kind of bloody at points but primarily psychological horror. The third act's twist especially gave me nightmares for a while.

Suicide Circle(Club) is one of my favourite movies in the Japanese Genre(though Battle Royale is my favourite Japanese movie). Suicide Circle is such a great film.

"Infection" (2004) was an amazing movie too. "Apartment 1303" (2007) There's also an American ver. which stars Mischa Barton. "One Missed Call" (2003) "Kibakichi" (2004) "Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman" (2007) "Teketeke"(2009) "The Complex" (2013) "Tales of Terror From Tokyo" (2004) "Reincarnation" (2005) "Noroi: The Curse" (2005)
Some of these aren't really horror movies, but pretty good list although I'd have Audition at number one tbh. I would recommend Noroi, Vital, Infection, Muzan-E and Rampo Noir for anyone looking for more Japanese horror.
Ok, all of these are great japanese horror movies, but almost all are late 1990s ahead movies. Look for early japanese movies, you´re going to be amazed with most of it. Jigoku (1960) Kaidan (1964) Onibaba (1964) Toho´s Dracula (Lake of Dracula, Vampire Doll, Evil of Dracula) Guinea Pig series Recent ones like Tokyo Gore Police and Naked Blood are pretty decent too
Thank you for making this list & explaining the plots without spoiling the films. I've seen other videos about Asian horror & the video maker swould spoil all the ending. So thank u for not doing that.
Ju On never really did it for me. Everyone's different I guess. There's a movie that's similar to it called "Noroi, The Curse". I found it far scarier than "The Grudge".
More Japanese Horror Movies You Definitely Need To Watch: Ju-Rei: The Uncanny Tomie series Exte: Hair Extensions Marebito Tales of Terror from Tokyo, both series and the movie Noroi: The Curse Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman Pet Peeve The Locker 1 & 2 Zeiram (more sci-fi but J-horror fans still ought to like it)
Nice to see a little love for Ju-Rei: The Uncanny. Koji Shiraishi is a really interesting horror director. In addition to your list, I would also recommend Miss Zombie (2013).
Thank you for the recommendation. Yes, Ju-Rei definitely deserves way more attention and I'm surprised it's not. It's one of the most kick-ass J-horror movies ever made.
Pretty solid list - no duds on there and i was pleasantly surprised to see that I've watched all of the films on the list. A good reference point for anyone interested in J-Horror or who have watched a couple of films on the list and want to watch more of the same. My order 1. Battle Royale, 2. Ringu, 3. Suicide Circle, 4. Kairo (Pulse), 5. Ichi the Killer, 6. Audition, 7. Dark Water, 8. Uzamaki, 9. Ju-On - The Grudge, 10. Tetsuo Ju-On never resonated with me at the time and coming after Ringu felt like a rip off when I originally watched it. It's probably worth another viewing. Ringu genuinely creeped me out on first viewing and BR was the first ever Japanese language film I watched and what generally got me into J-Horror. Audition has a great payoff but is a very slow film; if not a little boring at times - I think it's a little overrated, but still good (I enjoyed the likes of Gozu more). Sion Sono's other films are worth looking at - I still need to watch a few of them myself, but the ones I have do are pretty interesting. Marebito was a pretty creepy movie too.
'Noroi' should be on the list and not 'Ichi' or 'Battle Royale'. It is a slow-burn demon story told through found footage and is very creepy and effective,.
As The Gods Will (2014) is kinda like Battle Royale because it involves high school students trying to beat some kind of death game. It is really good.
Wow... there are SO many movies that deserve a spot here. I would recomend "Noroi" for horror lovers. and "Visitor Q" for those of you who like WEIRD shait xD
Tetsuo the Iron Man and Ju-On are the only ones I haven't seen, so yay for me. I'm 4/5 of the way there! A movie I would suggest is Jigoku. The last 40 minutes are spent in the Japanese Buddhist version of Hell.
There's this movie I saw about a girl that starts working for a family of three. It's 2 older parents and their full grown man child. So the girl's job is to take care of their son since he's slow. I only saw the movie once but remember a scene where the girl goes to a play and the sits on the first row because it's empty. She then sees a bunch of old people's ghosts. Later someone explains that the first row is reserved for the dead that visit. There was something about leaving spare change on the entrance of the house for the dead. In the end, it turns out that the son is actually a spirit too and that the parents want her to die to be with him. Anyone know of this movie? I can't remember the name.
Cho Kowai Hanashi (Eng Title Cursed) Apartment 1303 (original version) Rasen (Spiral) the original and far superior sequel to Ringu (replaced in canon by Ringu 2) Buraddo (2009) The nearest thing Japan has ever made to "The Hunger" really off beat vampire movie Shutter 2004 (okay it is a Thai film, but has been so influential on Japanese cinema deserves a mention, and is creepy as hell)
Saying Hunger Games is a clone of Battle Royale does the movie no justice. Both those film do their own things with its concept and they aren't similair in any way, except for that one detail of young people forced to fight. It's like saying Halloween is a clone of Psycho.
Probably has been said but Ringu (the book) features a male journalist, Asakawa, as the main character. He has a wife and daughter. But yeah, the story is very different than the movie in this aspect.
Also there are good: The haunted apartments, Riaru onigokko, The ghost train, Carved kuchisake onna, Apartment 1303, Scary story A:Dark Crow and Teke Teke (1 & 2) ^^
Totally forgot Guinea Pig, I saw the scene where the Samurai is cutting the girl up, didn't bother watching the other stuff. Got the boxed DVD set for $50, sold it on eBay for $150. Sick creepy shit, that should have been number 1
(UZUMAKI SPOILERS) The ending of (the movie) Uzumaki upset me so much. The Uzumaki series was my absolute favorite of Junji's work and the manga's ending was sad, romantic, and beautiful. I don't like the thought of Suichi just randomly snapping and trying to kill Kirie. I wish they would have waited for the series to finish so they could have multiple movies including all of the chapters and the ending. It would have been amaziiiing.
I love Asian horror movies and monster movies . A couple of my favorites are Teki Teki , and The Slit Mouthed Woman . If you haven't seen either of these , I would give a big suggestion to you to watch them . Also a Korean monster movie called The Host , this movie has a little of everything , if you get a chance to watch this one , I'm sure you won't be disappointed. And lastly , Train to Busan , damn good zombie movie , all I can say about that , lol . Thanks , hope you take my suggestions and enjoy .
At least one of these is not a horror film (Battle Royale). As for Kairo aka Pulse, I think Cure is undoubtedly the best film by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. And Ju-On: The Curse is actually way more subtle, and has more substance than Ju-On The Grudge. I'd also say Ringu 2 is better than Ringu 1, but they feel like one story, it's just that Ringu 2 covers more significant event, and so it is more climactic, terrifying and melancholic.
Here's some great ones, Eko Eko Azarak (awesome 90's school horror with witchcraft) Pulse (awesome ghost movie) Cure (awesome serial killer/hypnotism movie) Evil Dead Trap (cool very gorey 80's slasher) Suicide Club (amazing - Noriko's dinner table is amazing too) Gemini
American horror films don't compare to foreign horror films. It's like our White picket fence lives can't handle a truly terrifying movie. I saw Dark Water (non American) film and it was amazing and scared the shit out of me. Then after it was made a college girl in red dies the same way in the real world... crazy
Watch Takashi Miike's "Imprint", from his Masters of Horror series. It was the one segment that was banned for TV, deemed to be too disturbing. It's some sick shit alright.
Saw someone mentioned One missed call. I first saw the Hollywood one and it scared me to death. Later on I found out that it was originally made by Japan so I wanted of course take a look at the movie. And oh my god, the American one was very good, but this one was... Everything. It was so creepy but also... sad. And it was so much more better than the Hollywood one. I reccomend One missed call original to Jhorror fans
Ringu and Ju-on the grudge are the most scariest Asian horror movie i'v ever watched it i will be very scared if there's a real video tape and ju-on cursed like.... those two are more scarier like i don't wanna get the real tape if i would be...Sadako just pops out from the tape and haunts us then for Kayako when you have a ju-on curse you have a nightmares lurk in your head like you think she was not there when you're alone and starting to sleep while you heard the creepy sounds of slowing opening door's but suddenly she was already under beneath your blanket and pulls you under the bed and kills you
Guys ever heard of the staring man. . Hes usually spotted underneath a street light alone. You cant see his face but you know he is facing you, staring with his dimly lit eyes and if you stare ling enough. Youll see. . Oh god i cant fini
Good god. There's been one that I've been trying to find, but never could. All I remember was it being an older film ( late 80s-mid 90s) Some sort of VHS tape recorded by a deceased elderly man whose ghost appears in said tape, a subway fatality and a woman in a hallway whose face looked like it was ripped off.
Lolz I agree with the choice for the #1 spot here. I couldnt sleep properly for weeks after watching it. Whenever I wake up i the middle of the night, I never look to the side or the roof. That scene was what really freaked me out XD
Other great ones to check out Ringu 2 and Ringu 0 are surprisingly good Jigoku Onibaba Kwaidan Carved (aka The Slit-Mouth Woman) House Happiness of the Katakuris Guinea Pig (the entire series! They aren't necessarily great films, but they're an experience you'll never forget!) Naked Blood and the granddaddy of them all; the most disturbing film ever made: VISITOR Q
Nice call on Naked Blood. That movie is trippy and also has some of the best gore of its time. Have you seen Carved 2: The Scissors Massacre? I think it's better than the first one.
Not yet. And yeah, Naked Blood is just bonkers. That's why I love it! I mean, frying your hand in tempura batter or chewing your genitals like gum? Where the fuck else are you going to see just batshit insane stuff like that?
I have a friend that loves Japanese culture and he lent me a few Japanese Horror movies to watch because he knew I like horror. The only one that I didn't think Nickelodeon could make was Battle Royal. He had the movie that the ring was based on, Ringu, and it was horrible. I know a ton of American movies just look good with no substance but I think I'm just spoiled with flashy movies. If the movie looks like something shot by the same team that filmed Are You Afraid of the Dark on one of their off days between episodes I just loose interest quickly. I have seen some high budget Korean horror movies, I think Koreans put more money into their films.
My fave japanese horror movies: ichi the killer, ichi zero, battle royale, battle royale 2, one missed call, one missed call 2, one missed call 3, and cold fish
I don't want to get on you about the bad pronunciation of some of the Japanese words, but I just want to correct the name of the director of Ichi the Killer and Audition. It's Takashi Miike (me-kay) not just "me". For anyone interested, he's a very avant garde director, he's like the Quintin Tarantino of Japan. He does a lot of Yakuza films (which Ichi the Killer is more related to than horror). But as for horror, you can't go wrong with "Audition" and his more main stream horror film "Chakushin Ari" (One Missed Call)
Yeah, he definitely has more of a cult following than praise in the film world, lol. Many of his films have really taboo subjects, like Visitor Q, that just don't fly well in the west (or in Japan sometimes! lol) The most recent of his I saw was Over Your Dead Body and I thought it was very well done and loved the creepiness that the touch of Japanese theatre brought to it :)
10. UZUMAKI 9. DARK WATER 8. ICHI THE KILLER 7. SUICIDE CIRCLE (SUICIDE CLUB) 6. TATSUO THE IRON MAN 5. BATTLE ROYAL 4. CAIRO 3. RINGU 2. AUDITION 1. YUON THE GRUDGE
Hey, nice list! And yeah for me, I've seen half of them! Kewl beanz! Wrote down the rest to see what I can find. One I really liked was called (I think) SHUTTER - about ghost photography. Or was Shutter the American version? Liked a weird one called FEBRUARY 29th too. Hm, come to think of it, these might not be Japanese Horror but Asian Horror. Close nuf!
God damn it, I was totally fine until you showed Kayako. I was not prepared for that, the Japanese AND U.S. versions of that fucking movie will scare the SHIT out of me until the day I die
Good Creative J-Loboro (Japan Low Budget Horror) Occult 2009 (curious experimental found footage attempting to film moments of afterlife) , Cult 2013, Seance 2000, Grotesque / Gurotesuku 2009 (but it's rather a Thriller to a Horror). Best of Thai Horror (Proper Budget) parallel in rank to The Shutter is 9-9-81 (that's the name of the movie)
More love for Koji Shiraishi! I love it! Cult is very cool. His recent Senritsu Kaiki File movies are very creative found footage films, but they are only available on Japanese DVD without subtitles.
This is amazing list. but please can you out the name of movies on the video or comments, cause it's hard to find the movie when you know the exact name and the years relese date, thanks for the list
I almost saw every movie in this list. The only movie I didn't watch was the iron man. My favourit movies who aren't in the list are: The Call 1 ( 2 and 3 aren't that good) Slit Mouthed Woman Infection Retribution Ghost Train Grotesque Gun Woman Tokyo Psycho Naked Blood I'm sure there are more but I don't remeber their names. And I love the Trash movies like: Tokyo Gore Police and Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl ^^
8:20 RINGU was a a paranormal/sci-fi thriller, THE RING was a supernatural horror film! No mention of that short film IMPRINT starring Billy Drago? It is a weird film with a harrowing torture-porn scene. The Japanese are perverted!
I found it was a bit too over-the-top to be scary. It's more unsettling because of the violence and just kind off, well, off. But I don't think it's horror, but I can understand why it's in there.
10. UZUMAKI
9. DARK WATER
8. ICHI THE KILLER
7. SUICIDE CIRCLE (SUICIDE CLUB)
6. TATSUO THE IRON MAN
5. BATTLE ROYAL

1. YUON THE GRUDGE
CHEWBACCA ON METH thank you
only 4??
grudge was even scarier when i watched in my open TV lounge at 11 am with my brother.......
CHEWBACCA ON METH thank you.
CHEWBACCA ON METH THANK YOU. not knowing japanese, I couldn't find many titles. Appreciated.
I find Asian horror movies way more scarier than American horror movies.
they tend to rely on suspense rather than american films relying on jumpscares
Agreed. There's also an awkward fear of the unknown that is expressed in their films.
There hasn't been an American movie that scared me. The reason being there's no spiritual side to the Hollywood horror, just dry chopping, gore, senseless killing and torture.
Same. The only thing they got is their good camera quality.
I found Orphan quite scary.
Western horror has been too lacking lately. Relying on jumpscares is just lazy.

Sinister and Oculus were pretty good
Joshua Shank Yes. So good.
My list of favorite J-Horror, not in any order.
Infection (Kansen)
The Booth
One Missed Call (Chakushinari)
Slit Mouth Woman (Kuchisake Onna)
The Curse (Noroi)
Retribution (Sakebi)
Throne Of Blood
Tomie series
Hellavator
Just type watchasianhorror in google search and you can watch them all.
You're welcome.
Jen Eric y
Yeah, Infection is pretty solid.
Jen Eric infection will always be my favorite. Also liked Sick Nurses which is a Thai Film
Jen Eric also anything by the pang brothers..
Cheers Mate!!!
Kansen is sooooooooooooo good!
10: Uzumaki
9: Dark Water / Honogurai mizu no soko kara (original title)
8: Ichi the Killer / Koroshiya 1 (original title)
7: Suicide Club / Jisatsu sâkuru (original title)
6: Tetsuo, the Iron Man / Tetsuo (original title)
5: Battle Royale / Batoru rowaiaru (original title)
4: Pulse / Kairo (original title)
3: Ringu
2: Audition / Ôdishon (original title)
1: Ju-on: The Grudge / Ju-on (original title)

Yes that was a good one!
I love this film
I watched The Grudge both English and Japanese version. It was one of the few movies that actually scared me. Also the Ring. I was perfectly fine with the Ring until the girl came out of the TV. I admit that scared me good. Well done Japan!
If you have the means, I recommend the original made-for-television film "Ju On: The Curse" (2000).
*The Ring* is the only remake of a J-horror film that I personally prefer over its predecessor. *Ringu,* while still having a good story, didn't scare me much, though that admittedly probably has to do with its lower effects budget.
I especially found the remake's version of the tape, TV-scene, and victims' faces far scarier (Amber Tamblyn in the closet, ugh). When Sadako killed Hiroyuki Sanada in *Ringu,* I honestly laughed at his near-cross-eyed expression.

I haven't seen Ringu or the made for television version of Ju On. I will definitely put them both on my to watch list. Thanks to you both!
Kansen is an interesting movie. The ending is very open-ended and confusing, but the idea it introduces is fresh and interesting to think about.
I enjoy Japanese horror films and the Korean horror films are enjoyable as well.
Robert Honer The best!
Korea had a solid 2016 with "The Wailing" and "Train to Busan."
Agreed on Train To Busan.
I love tale of two sisters
White: Melody of Death is a really good Korean horror film. It was one of the last movies to actually scare me really badly.
Battle Royale is to this day one of the greatest films I have ever seen.
Same. or at very least perhaps the best Japanese movie I have seen.
Battle Royal was a lot better than the Hunger games.
Robert Honer fortnite
is*
The story probably, but the production and acting in The Hunger Games isnt cheesy/corny compared to BR
No, hunger games make more money, the original get underrated and only known in Japan. It's business reality of the Hollywood-ism
julius dendawijaya Japanese movies are not advertised as much as Hollywood movies, so they are less known internationally. Just like J-pop is less known internationally than US-UK & K-pop because of strict copyrights laws and less advertisements.
Battle Royale, and Ichi the Killer horror movies!? No, definitely not horror to me.
I classify "Battle Royale" as a thriller and "Ichi the Killer" as a dark crime drama/thriller.
The horror genre has many subgenres, which includes thriller
yeah but I think in those cases, horror would be one of the sub genres. Those movies aren't exactly defined by their intent to scare or spook the audience.
Yea, I wouldn't even put those two even remotely close to the horror genre.
Never thought to think of it that way. But horror doesn't always have to scare you, it can unsettle you and/or make you think. Idk I just tend to classify a lot of things as horror
Junji Ito❤️❤️❤️
Nyáry Luca When he said Uzumaki I was like: OHDAHHD YESSS
Nyáry Luca Gyo ♡
Suicide Circle(Club) is one of my favourite movies in the Japanese Genre(though Battle Royale is my favourite Japanese movie). Suicide Circle is such a great film.
And it's one movie at least that I'm pretty sure won't get an American remake.
I wanna see the U.S. remake of Tetsuo: The Iron Man. :P
Carved:The Slit Mouthed Woman is one of my favorites, you've picked some pretty great titles,I feel that one should've had some mentioning.
You guys are pressing on far too many popular movies to argue someone "needs" to watch them.
There isn't a single mention of some significantly more important movies to the industry (that I don't even have to mention because the comments are already FILLED with them), and you guys have to force Ichi the killer and battle royale (which are more of action than actual horror) into the mix?
This list has so many japanese movies that were adapted it should be called:
"10 japanese horror movies we know that exist"
Dark Water also got an american remake with Jennifer Connely and John C. Reilly
My favorite japanese found footage horror movie is probably "noroi: the curse"
I really liked the old japanese movies. A lot of times, the low resolution makes the film even more scary.
But i noticed that japanese horror films now are relying on computer animations and does not look terrifying anymore.
Juon is always number 1 where was Gozu brilliant film anyone agree thumbs up
I am Juan The Number 1(mexican accent)😁
Palmira Jourdain Your joke is terrible.
Some people with mexican accents can actually say ONE.
"hurr durr mexican so juan!"
Gozu is more just bloody weird & strange than horror. That hand at the end though.....!
I actually prefer films like Strange Circus and Cure to Gozu, but I can see why you like it so much.
Reason i love gozu is try explaining plot to friend never easy and the director is basically slapping anyone who tries to make sense of plot
I love this channel but you guys need to at least double check your pronunciations before you throw your content up. There is no such thing as a truly silent vowel sound in Japanese. Miike sounds like Mee Kay
Dokkalfr who the fuck cares?
surely not an american moron. after all often they can't speak properly "their" language
Because accuracy is important? Otherwise you get things like alternative facts
Fucking weeb kek
Dark Water is really sad!
Enya Soul so is the American remake, which has some wonderful performances and is deeply atmospheric. Either version really stays with you.
Forget about American horror for one second and notice how fuck up everything else is instead of thinking that America is the best at everything cause it's not.REVOLUTION!!!
Absolutely
I made the mistake of binging on J-horror movies and had to back off for a while. I'm going to come back to it soon.
battle royale is good hunger games sucks
I do agree that hunger games shares some simalarities, I don't really think it belongs in the horror genre.
I hear ya!
James Link I stopped watching hunger games after realising no one was hungry.
The audience was hungry for a quality franchise and they got to starve. Fitting, I think.
I really wish you people would stop comparing them. They are different and if you hate Hunger Games because it's not Japanese, then you need to grow up.
"Infection" (2004) was an amazing movie too.
"Apartment 1303" (2007) There's also an American ver. which stars Mischa Barton.
"One Missed Call" (2003)
"Kibakichi" (2004)
"Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman" (2007)
"Teketeke"(2009)
"The Complex" (2013)
"Tales of Terror From Tokyo" (2004)
"Reincarnation" (2005)
"Noroi: The Curse" (2005)
gumdokim thank you for adding the date of the movie! ... & giving us more insight into what to expect ;)
Jigoku (1960)
Kaidan (1964)
Onibaba (1964)
Toho´s Dracula (Lake of Dracula, Vampire Doll, Evil of Dracula)
Guinea Pig series
Recent ones like Tokyo Gore Police and Naked Blood are pretty decent too
Kuroneko is really good too.
Was Tokyo gore police released with sub's?
Thank you for making this list & explaining the plots without spoiling the films. I've seen other videos about Asian horror & the video maker swould spoil all the ending. So thank u for not doing that.
Shutter, The Eye, and One Missed Call were all good enough that American remakes were made.
Shutter is a Thai Film and The Eye is from Hong Kong
Probably why they aren't on a list of Japanese Horror movies...
The directors of Shutter later made a film called Alone in 2007. That one is really good too.
The Eye is a good one. I was going to comment that, too. I liked part 1 and 2, but the first one was better.
So in other words all fantastic films that were fucked up in translation. Cool...
Shutter is not a J-movie
FINALLY SOMEBODY AGREES the grudge is the scariest movie
It scared me for years when I first saw it at around 9 years of age lol.
Ju On never really did it for me. Everyone's different I guess.
There's a movie that's similar to it called "Noroi, The Curse". I found it far scarier than "The Grudge".
More Japanese Horror Movies You Definitely Need To Watch:
Ju-Rei: The Uncanny
Tomie series
Exte: Hair Extensions
Marebito
Tales of Terror from Tokyo, both series and the movie
Noroi: The Curse
Carved: The Slit-Mouthed Woman
Pet Peeve
The Locker 1 & 2
Zeiram (more sci-fi but J-horror fans still ought to like it)
Nice to see a little love for Ju-Rei: The Uncanny.
The Locker is a good one
Pretty solid list - no duds on there and i was pleasantly surprised to see that I've watched all of the films on the list. A good reference point for anyone interested in J-Horror or who have watched a couple of films on the list and want to watch more of the same.
My order
1. Battle Royale, 2. Ringu, 3. Suicide Circle, 4. Kairo (Pulse), 5. Ichi the Killer, 6. Audition, 7. Dark Water, 8. Uzamaki, 9. Ju-On - The Grudge, 10. Tetsuo
Ju-On never resonated with me at the time and coming after Ringu felt like a rip off when I originally watched it.
Is there an english name to it? I can't find it on netflix.
It's called Noroi, the curse. Just go to 'fmovies.to' to watch it
Don't think you can find it on Netflix.
Domino ty very much for the suggestion! I love artist conceptions of hell.. so interesting
This is the best list of Japanese horror movies I have ever seen. Well done. This is now saved on my computer.
Yesss~ Battle Royale
I love horror
+
I love Japan
Put them together: I love Jpanese horror movies!!
E lite Facts good vid.Can you do a top ten on best jump scares in movies???I joined here months ago and I recommend you to lots of ppl.Peace
Where's the porn it's scary
YES UR SUBBED TO REACTION TIME!!
Blue-_-ray Lol 😂
Yeah it is horrifying
Modern porn is fucked up: what's with all the choking?
there's other J-Horror movies I recommend.
Noroi
One Missed Call
Ring of Curse
Higanjima
Corpse Party
Ao Oni
Parasite Eve
Infection
Cho Kowai Hanashi (Eng Title Cursed)
Apartment 1303 (original version)
Rasen (Spiral) the original and far superior sequel to Ringu (replaced in canon by Ringu 2)
Buraddo (2009) The nearest thing Japan has ever made to "The Hunger" really off beat vampire movie
Shutter 2004 (okay it is a Thai film, but has been so influential on Japanese cinema deserves a mention, and is creepy as hell)
Battle Royale is waaaay better than Hunger Games
Also there are good: The haunted apartments, Riaru onigokko, The ghost train, Carved kuchisake onna, Apartment 1303, Scary story A:Dark Crow and Teke Teke (1 & 2) ^^
Man, I STILL can only watch RINGU and Jo-On during the daytime. well made flick.
I love your videos and channel!!!
READ uzumaki too, its incredible
Totally forgot Guinea Pig, I saw the scene where the Samurai is cutting the girl up, didn't bother watching the other stuff. Got the boxed DVD set for $50, sold it on eBay for $150. Sick creepy shit, that should have been number 1
Chakushin Ari (One Missed Call) should have gotten an Honourable Mention, especially because it was also directed by Takashi Miike
I was terrified of the grudge when it first came out. That throat noise bus me the fuck out.
Mumzly04 lol! dat profile picture xD
I DO COCAINE!
Ghosts made in japan are the best.
(UZUMAKI SPOILERS)
The ending of (the movie) Uzumaki upset me so much.
That freaking Because the Dead song from Suicide Club is going to be stuck in my head for awhile now.
Nah I rather watch the last Jedi because that is a HORRORable movie
True that
I also like Reincarnation, 3 Extremes (especially Dumpings), The Eye, Shutter, A Take of Two Sisters
also Tokyo Gore Police and Vampire girl vs Frankenstein Girl hahaha!!!
The Eye is one movie that I have a GREAT love/hate relationship with. Especially The Eye 2, which I first saw when I was pregnant with my first kiddo.
I also think Cure is the best film by Kiyoshi. Also, Ju On The Curse is underappreciated and I loved the use of background scares in that one.
9:29 Wrong, she could transfer herself from tape to dvd if some ass copies the tape to dvd, so watch out, LOL.
I' ve only watched Dark Water. Great movie that actually is more sad than scary, considering the background stories of main characters.
Here's some great ones,
Eko Eko Azarak (awesome 90's school horror with witchcraft)
Pulse (awesome ghost movie)
Cure (awesome serial killer/hypnotism movie)
Evil Dead Trap (cool very gorey 80's slasher)
Suicide Club (amazing - Noriko's dinner table is amazing too)
Gemini
American horror films don't compare to foreign horror films. It's like our White picket fence lives can't handle a truly terrifying movie.
I saw Dark Water (non American) film and it was amazing and scared the shit out of me. Then after it was made a college girl in red dies the same way in the real world... crazy
Some great films on the list, one of my favourites was The Curse, Noroi I love the documentary feel to that film.
Noroi: the curse better than all these
Tetsuo, the Iron Man, is a very difficult movie to watch. Black and white, the special effects will remain in your mind forever. Scary and twisted.
nice vid, altough i would remove Uzumaki from the list (because let's be honest, we can't say it's a good movie) and add Premonition (予言 Yogen)
Youll see. . Oh god i cant fini
yay you included suicide club! :D that movie was awesome! wow i've seen most of the best ones.
The Sakura is red (pink)
Violets are blue
Samara is calling me
what should I do?
Feels good watching a top list and having every movie on my shelf. Feels bad not discovering a fresh nug though.
Other great ones to check out
Ringu 2 and Ringu 0 are surprisingly good
Jigoku
Onibaba
Kwaidan
Carved (aka The Slit-Mouth Woman)
House
Happiness of the Katakuris
Guinea Pig (the entire series! They aren't necessarily great films, but they're an experience you'll never forget!)
Naked Blood
and the granddaddy of them all; the most disturbing film ever made: VISITOR Q
12 years A Slave is still the most brilliant Japanese horror movie that I still just don't get.
Try "Infection" this movie gave me chills and about 15 takes to finish it. i watched a lot of actual horror movies, but this one got me by the balls.
Battle royale was my favorite movie made in Japan, I've always thought about the movie being more like the purge.
Miike had some good ones in recent years too. I really enjoyed Lesson of the Evil, which is a movie that would never get a wide release in the U.S.
Yeah, he definitely has more of a cult following than praise in the film world, lol. Many of his films have really taboo subjects, like Visitor Q, that just don't fly well in the west (or in Japan sometimes! lol)
The most recent of his I saw was Over Your Dead Body and I thought it was very well done and loved the creepiness that the touch of Japanese theatre brought to it :)
Yeah. Over Your Dead Body is really good!
I wish they would post the names here.
10. UZUMAKI
9. DARK WATER
8. ICHI THE KILLER
7. SUICIDE CIRCLE (SUICIDE CLUB)
6. TATSUO THE IRON MAN
5. BATTLE ROYAL
4. CAIRO
3. RINGU
2. AUDITION
1. YUON THE GRUDGE
Thank you so much. Some I've seen, others I haven't.
welcome :)
Thanks Jamie.
Close nuf!
Shutter is one of the greats!
(Thai)
I managed to find a DVD copy of Juon Ghe Curse 1 and 2. It's low budget but scary as fuck. These two are my favorite of the Juon/Grudge movies.
This is amazing list. but please can you out the name of movies on the video or comments, cause it's hard to find the movie when you know the exact name and the years relese date, thanks for the list
I almost saw every movie in this list. The only movie I didn't watch was the iron man.
My favourit movies who aren't in the list are:
The Call 1 ( 2 and 3 aren't that good)
Slit Mouthed Woman
Infection
Retribution
Ghost Train
Grotesque
Gun Woman
Tokyo Psycho
Naked Blood
I'm sure there are more but I don't remeber their names.
And I love the Trash movies like: Tokyo Gore Police and Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl ^^
Tokyo Gore Police is a lot of fun!
8:20 RINGU was a a paranormal/sci-fi thriller, THE RING was a supernatural horror film!
No mention of that short film IMPRINT starring Billy Drago? It is a weird film with a harrowing torture-porn scene.
The Japanese are perverted!
You missed Rin-ne, aka Reincarnation. A bit campy, but it has a great twist to it that M Night Shyamalan might have enjoyed (or been inspired by).
Yes!!! Battle Royale was awesome! Both the book and movie... Japan makes great horror movies.
The scariest movie I ever saw was Frozen.
The one when they get stuck in a ski lift or the disney one?
ichi the killer, is hilarious and fun!
So it Riki-oh.
This is an anime horror movie, but Perfect Blue was quite good. Also the sequels of Ringu and book were decent too.
Ichi The Killer... is a horror?! I found it quite funny in a very manga kind of way
I found it was a bit too over-the-top to be scary. It's more unsettling because of the violence and just kind off, well, off. But I don't think it's horror, but I can understand why it's in there.
Because it was a manga, then a movie.
Ringu is my number 1. I'm missing some movies like The eye too, and some I wouldn't exactly call horror, like itchi the killer.
