It would be interesting to hear an explanation of why you won't reveal Lucy's results. What competitive advantage might theoretically be lost if the number was made public?
Lucy/Reece, I don't understand why you wouldn't publish the VO2 max number. You know as well as me (in fact you allude to it in the comments) that VO2 max doesn't correlate to ironman performance (nor any other long distance performance) and so offers no competitive information to others, contrary to what some of the other commenters below might think. For competitive reasons I understand why you wouldn't want to publish LT/VT 1 and 2 nor power output, (although Lionel Sanders does, but he doesn't lose races because of that, he manages to beat himself quite effectively 😅). For the vast majority of athletes VO2 max is a relatively meaningless, if interesting, number.
That's what makes Lionel's/Talbot's videos to be so interesting to watch. Because you can see all his work up front. I like to think also Lionel posts data because he couldn't care less if competitors know his numbers and more like here you go 400W for 6 minutes and lactate of 2.3 come get me.
Would be great to hear your VO2 Max score as there is no benefit to your fellow competitors in knowing this but I understand you guys reticence in giving out any testing data.
doing that test in ERG mode would surely have limited the numbers quite a bit as you just cant push your max watts while at 40rpm. i made that mistake before on a ramp test and it was pathetic. re-did the test a few days later on resistance only mode and got 30 watts higher FTP as a result of being able to spin properly
ERG adjusts resistance in response to your cadence to maintain the same power. Most riders naturally slow down cadence towards the point of complete exhaustion in a vo2 max test so it looks like they're grinding, when really they could still be spinning 95 rpm if they weren't on borrowed time and above vo2 max. In essence, the cadence throughout the test is entirely self-selected.
@@peterwilson1831 have you actually used erg mode ? the second you dont push the set watts it ups the resistance so high you cant pedal and forces you to drop cadence. this is fact and why pretty much everyone only uses it for easy riding efforts. you cant self select cadenece as easily with erg mode on
For everyone that keeps asking "Why aren't you posting the data, it doesn't mean anything." If you know the competitions physiology and ability to produce power, you can implement race tactics that go against them. E.g., some athletes have a high lactate threshold, others don't. Similar to power output, some have a higher VO2max, and a greater top-end. The ones that do can go out fast, pace the race on their terms, and in essence, fatigue the ones with a lower lactate threshold. On the flip side, the race starts slow, and it results in a sprint finish --> even if you have a higher lactate threshold, the ones with a greater VO2max and/or power output would have a lot left in the tank (regardless of lactate threshold) because the pace was slow throughout - will in turn win the sprint finish. Furthermore there is a psychological element to this. You don't let your competition know the cards you can play, you keep them hidden so you can put fear in your competition.
@@gabbechico8471 don't remember Sanders talking about the results of a VO2Max test. Because there is no upside in making it public only potential downsides
i wouldn't worry about it...vo2 max is not really as important as it was once thought. She grew up as a swimmer, so it's no surprise her vo2 might be higher than someone who grew up as a cyclist or runner.
two questions: was your lactate threshold determined to be happening at 4mmol before? i know it's the average value to happen at but there there huge outliers. second one: no fatmax testing?
@@audrey-annbrunelle1277 yea sure, becoming as fast as a pro is as simple as emulating their metrics. If only technique, racing tactics, form, psyche didn't matter...

Threshold is likely 4.8-5.0 w/kg or 280-290w, VO2 max maybe 25% higher at 340w and for a relative VO2 of 70-72. There's not too much mystery in what it takes to be a world class triathlete on the bike, I don't know why you would hide the data-nothing would be surprising.
Agree. there is still cooling effect on the bike 100% unless this is literally just a a test to see what is the max you can possibly sweat at that heat

nice one bro

you can predict if she's a "punchy" rider or a "long aerobic effort" rider so you can develop tactics to beat her in a race
my guess, I dunno tho
None. Really.
Arthur Asulyan but we know already....
I'd guess pride is involved as well as a much more competitive matter
