Hey you Pokémon Collecting maniacs!! If you're in the market for some awesome Pokémon merch check out the BRAND NEW WEBSITE PIKAPIKAPAPA.COM! This is just the beginning too as we have lots of new stuff coming soon. Thank you for the support and have an awesome one!
yea sun and moon has lower pop but the thing with swsh is it was strong enough to make alot of us hop back into pokemon seriously sun and moon doesn't have the same appeal or demand sword and shield does I firmly believe sword and shield is overall superior era and in my personal opinion the greatest Pokemon era because none of the vintage stuff made me excited enough to hop out of a different tcg I used to collect vs sword and shield. I personally have always been in the tcg atmosphere for over 20+ years always collecting buying trading however I've never seriously collected Pokemon till sword and shield era the main deciding factor was celebrations and evolving skies which made me do the big transition and sell off my entire yugioh collection and go all into pokemon and yes I sold all of my old vintage yugioh
Just because you didn't start collecting until SW&SH doesn't mean it's the best gen ever. Are we just going to ignore how pathetic SW&SH was half way through. Base was average at best followed by a whole lot of Steam Siege and Crimson Invasion like sets. There was Rebel Trash, the even worse Darkness Ablaze, the pathetic Vivid Voltage, everybody's favourite punching bag Battle Styles and the terrible and over printed Shining Fates. Add in the boring and in my opinion the weak Celebrations, Astral Radiance and Silver Tempest from the second half and your left with what? One awesome set with extremely painful pull rates 3 pretty good sets in Chilling Reign, Fusion Strike and Lost Origin and an average at best Brilliant Stars. I assume your just ignoring those 7 or 8 extremely weak to poor sets when showering SW&SH as the greatest ever gen. Yes it may have the best Pokemon set ever produced in ES but you can't just ignore two thirds of the sets in the generation when speaking of the generation as a whole. I think as a whole Sun & Moon was a much stronger gen. With Team Up leading the way as a comparable set to ES in strength but it's the middle class where Sun & Moon stands out above SW&SH with a plethora of strong to semi strong sets. Cosmic Eclipse, Unbroken Bonds, Unified Minds, Celestial Storm, Lost Thunder, Ultra Prizm, Burning Shadows and Hidden Fates all pretty strong sets. Only Crimson Invasion, Guardians Rising and Base Set suck on the same level as two thirds of the SW&SH gen. But I guess you wouldn't know that would you because you missed it. Curious to know if you think SW&SH really is the best how heavily are you invested in any SW&SH set that doesn't start with an E an F an L or a C.
@@buffalobill9793 that’s not a bad point. The first 5 sets of SW&SH were pretty weak but that’s only like, 30% of the era. Sun & moon art works were still lacking though
I collected as a kid in the late 90’s early 2000’s. Hopped back in when 151 dropped. Looking back at older cards, I love the tag team art, not even the expensive cards. They’re just all so unique and cool. Some perspective from a new hobbyist.
@@buffalobill9793 I think you misunderstood I've been collecting pokemon through the start of the tcg just mostly singles and never seriously I have base set zards for days lol and a bunch of e-readers,ex,lv,x, team rocket, gx,delta species, shinings etc, I didn't seriously collect the cards till sword and shield era because like I said it wasn't really anything impressive it didn't have the wow factor in pokemon till sword and shield era imo they did a great job with alt arts. the start of swsh era is without a doubt trash the era kicked back up with a bang with evo skies which was my deciding set as to seriously collect pokemon because pokemon imo never made a set as interesting as evo skies and yes I've pretty much opened every pokemon english tcg pack since base set but never collected seriously back then. I personally don't mind tough pull rates since it secures all my high end single cards values that's an issue i had with yugioh they would constantly reprint my high end cards that are worth $100+ and then a year later worth $20 or less pokemon didn't do that a big deciding factor for my transition was sealed long term pokemon value and no reprints on major high value cards. Sun and moon was a far weaker and boring gen compared to swsh I'm sure you're probably unaware but the pokemon tcg hobby was dying in sun and moon until hidden fates and cosmic eclipse dropped and even cosmic was a poor performer I scooped a bunch of $30 a pop cosmic eclipse etbs back in the day just to rip them . team up wasn't sought after over hidden fates the demand for hidden fates was far larger. Again I didn't miss out lol I've opened hidden fates upcs, probably like 60 hidden fates tins on black friday 2019 at target for $10 a piece per tin. I also have a good majority of the alt arts from sun and moon. I'm more so a collector over investor tbh and don't my positions in anything lol just know I've been in the hobby for a very long time and it has been very boring until swsh and hidden fates modern swsh made this hobby fun again tbh
I love how crazy these boxes are going even boxes that aren't sold out are doing good. Fusion went up fast now slowly and gradually moving. Chilling is starting to gain ground on Fusion which is nice to see. Keep on Moving S&S!!!!!!!!
You might want to get out there and invest in some Rebel Clash, Darkness Ablaze , Vivid Voltage, Battle Styles, Shining Fates, Champions Path, and Astral Radiance then because all those sets could use a fire lit under their ass.
Your trend analysis is amazing. What’s your thoughts. If you had to buy an alt art right now. Who’s giving the biggest return- aerodactly, machamp or tyranitar alt art?
Oh man... bringing the hard question huh? For me it's Aerodactly all the way. Comes from the best set of the 3 and is still hovering right around it's 1 year low. When LO flips to sold out I think it's gonna pop off!!
First time seeing your vids - Loved this analysis dude. We're all focussed on the gains at the moment but with the volume of PSA 10s I do worry about that nose dive when people start to undercut prices. Don't have the Umbreon Vmax or the Gengar and am on the verge of pulling the trigger, but just don't want to regret it lol. The life of an investor.
LOL I love this... the life of a Pokemon investor... the struggle is real!! A few videos ago we did a deep dive into the top 20 chase cards of the SW&SH ear and we looked at PSA 10 pops and Gem rates and you're right. It will be interesting to see if the demand can keep up with the supply!! Appreciate the support and I'm pumped you found value in the content. THANK YOU!!
This video was great. It makes you question if the "big" card of the set often sees the most FOMO and spikes highest, but then seems to regress. The 2nd and 3rd, etc. top cards seem to hold a better return on the same time scale. Perhaps it's best to chase the "less popular" cards over the long term. I don't see myself picking up a Moonbreon anytime soon but the other alts could follow the same projection as the cards discussed in this video.
I’m curious about the actual numbers…. Percentages can be misleading…. For instance say your $300 gengar vmax alt goes up 33%… that’s $100, the 2nd chase card sells for $160 and it goes up 88%!!! Well that’s not even $80…. So yeah in terms of percents… but I don’t believe he mentioned actual dollar amounts did he??
@@TheSnackAttackingSnorlax % is all that matters. Of course you'll have larger potential returns with a larger $ amount invested. Nothing is stopping you from buying 2 or 3 of the 2nd chase cards in order to have the same exposure as buying 1 top chase.
So pumped you found value in the content!! My personal strategy right now is to look at the cards in the 3-10 range in regards to most valuable in a set and see if there are any that aren't getting the love I feel they deserve!! With all eyes on the chase cards it's a great time to snag what everyone else is missing!!

@@PikaPikaPapathanks for sharing what you’re doing. I think that’s wise. I picked a couple smaller ones up recently (celebi v and luminion v) but I think I may hold off for the dragonite v and Charizard v. Their prices have spiked so dramatically it’s probably wise like you say to hold off for now
Population reports on cards is a big topic of conversation lately. It’s been used to discredit the recent rise in the alt arts from SWSH as sets go out of stock. Everyone will have to make their own decision on if a card with a high pop report is reason alone to avoid purchasing. The way I think about it is these popular character alt arts are so good that it really would defy logic to think that say 10,000 people in the future would not want a copy of that card as part of a PC. Meaning, demand will stay strong
Awesome call on the pop reports!! You know we dial in on them a lot here and I think you’re spot on. It’s part of the equation but demand is gonna be the final deciding factor!!
