To think that this was recorded in the 1920's before all the gimmicks available today is astounding. Listening to him and then to others further proves that there was never another Chazzan so accomplished in all facets of the art. No wonder, as his son writes in the biography of his father, that even the great Caruso was astounded by his talent.

traveled many years ago to Rome. sitting next to me on the plane, was a man on his way to the Vatican, to determine the influence of cantorial singing on the catholic church. amazing .Pope should have been listening to this amazingly unique voice of the Jewish people.
My new love, Yossele Rosenblatt. What an incredible voice. Makes me cry. Someone tell me where to find this prayer, please. I want to know what he is saying.
I heard quite a few wonderful cantors, but this is beyond anything I've heard! thank you so much for publishing. I might re-post if on my channel referring to this page.

Whoever added the accompaniment messed this up. I really dislike when people take something beautiful, and they just mess it up by what they would call "fixing" it.
I completely agree. Not only is it musically ineffective, it messes up the "kavanah of the piece. The "composer" apparently lacks deep understanding of the tefilot and their essence.
There was a famous yiddish story about Rosenblatt from years ago. A man brought his son to sing for a blind cantor. After the boy sang for him, the father waited and then asked, 'nu, vi gefellt ir mayn zin zayn shtim? (So, how do you like my son's voice?) Answered the cantor. 'ikl zog ir emes. (I'll tell you the truth) ikh bin zayt draytsik yur blint. (I've been blind for thirty years) un tsim ershten mol ahf mayn leben (and for the first time in my life) hawb ikh gevolt az ikh bin geborn teyb ekhet. (I wished I'd been born deaf too!
You can find a translation and commentary as well in the Art Scroll prayer book for either Rosh Hashana or Yom Kippur. This is the introductory prayer for the Mussaf service on both of those days. It is truly a magnificent prayer that the cantor recites asking that God allow him to pray with and on behalf of the people. It is well worth the effort to get the prayer book and read this.
פשוט מרהיב ומעורר השראה.
A truly divine masterpiece! Shalom from this Greek here.

+Jacob waldman I agree. Do you know where we can find unretouched Yosselle Rosenblatt recordings? I've searched high and low. :(
+Leonard Caplan, there are a lot on TH-cam actually, but I believe you could find'em on iTunes as well.
+Jacob waldman They're pretty hard to find. Evidently, most people don't notice the difference.
Definitely! Do you know where we can find any untouched originals?
